This is so cute!

I know there is no consensus about the age gap between Maedhros and Fingon. Only that Maedhros is supposed to be way older because Fingolfin was second born to Indis, and Feanor was supposed to have "married early".

I think there are some versions where Maedhros and Fingolfin are similar in age, and it's implied Feanor called Maedhros "Nelyafinwe" to force a name change on Fingolfin.

However, I do like the idea that Feanor and Nerdanel were too busy with each other and their craft to have babies, and then Feanor had Maedhros just in time to make sure Fingolfin wasn't the first to give Finwe grandchildren. As a result, we have this pic where Maedhros and Fingon were babies together!!!

I loved this reply to my post about Dimitri's weed-eating being a very good bit of world-building.

The post also reminded me of how resistent to centralisation Fodlan is and how it is implied that when the Empire is in control, all roads lead to Enbarr.

Unfortunately, because the TWSITD and even Rhea exist for narrative ease, there is a limit to how much natural in-universe development you can have. Because it is implied that the TWSITD worked over generations to first, break the Kingdom from the Empire. Then, break the Alliance from the Kingdom, and they came very close to breaking the Kingdom itself into East and West.

However, if you look at how Fodlan is set up, it's also obvious that the place is naturally inclined to be separate due to how vastly different your experience can be based on where you are born.

It's like this, Loog and Kyphon might have been encouraged by the TWSITD to revolt, and they might have been self-serving assholes who revolted because they wanted power. But based on what we see in-game, the more likely scenario is that the warmer, wealthier Empire, with its power centralised in Enbarr, had no real idea about the realities of life in the north.

Chances are that the TWSITD could stoke a rebellion because Enbarr was doing a bad job at ruling such a far-flung and diverse empire.

This is also why I think Fodlan united under Dimitri has the most chance of success. Not only because the Kingdom is naturally more localised but also because his ending card states that he instigated a more representative form of governance.

Being able to represent yourself and your community is the bare minimum necessary to ensure that you who live in a remote village up north still get shipments of warm clothes in summer because, yeah, Enbarr might have a heatwave, but it's still freaking cold here!

Subtle World Building in FE3H

I saw a post recently that reminded me how integrated Fire Emblem Three Houses was as a world and story. Everybody makes fun of the "please don't eat the weeds" scene, but that little interaction shows so much about the world!

Weed is unwanted plants, and what's unwanted depends on your society. Grass used to be weed, and people didn't have decorative lawns. Instead, dandelions and other plants now considered weeds would be cultivated because they are edible.

Dimitri is from Faerghus, which has food issues, and even nobles go hungry. It is very likely what is considered weeds in Garreg Mach is not considered weeds in Faerghus.

Dedue comes from the more fertile Duscar. So it makes sense that he doesn't get why Dimitri would want to eat weeds. But dandelion salad is probably how Dimitri survived his time on the run!

This is the scene that bumped FE3H from just another Fire Emblem for me to something truly special!

Despite playing the game seven months after release, I somehow missed all the spoilers. Including the part about Dimitri changing appearance so drastically.

So imagine my shock when Byleth climbs up the stairs and this is the Dimitri that greets her!

It changed my whole perspective on the game!

The goddess just watches us from above... That is all. No matter how hard someone begs to be saved, she would never so much as offer her hand. And even if she did, we lack the means to reach out and grasp it.
