‘you’ve got some fucking teeth,’ he says sitting there beside her, and she gives him a grin in return that’s more than worthy of the observation. ( if he wants teeth, she’ll give him teeth ----- even if the frame has a crack in it; the pinch of pulling skin as her lip protests what she’s doing ultimately getting ignored. )

she’s well aware of the fact her actions are going to get her in some hot water with her father once word makes it’s way back to him ( and he’s got enough eyes and ears out in hell’s kitchen to make sure her extracurriculars tonight will get home before her no matter how fast frank drives them ), but her father's the one that taught her not to take shit when it’s tossed in her direction in the first place. as far as she’s concerned, some ruby red scratches and a solid crack of her knuckles against someone’s jaw feels warranted.

“maybe not, but you can’t say he didn’t have it comin’. ” the grin lingers as she turns to glance out the window before returning to attention to frank, eyes still bright considering the hour. chalk it up to the adrenaline that hasn’t left her just yet ( and her knuckles will be the first to tell her when it does ). “and i didn’t, did i?” a split lip and some scabs on her hand the next morning aren’t worth a second look, really. “we both know if i hadn’t, you would’ve fucked him up worse from the jump.”

now she's usually the instigator when it comes to seeking out affection like this; big blue eyes and a substantial pout serving as her tried and true co - conspirators. but when he's the one looking to get this close, she's learned pretty quickly not to take it for granted. 

she doesn't even say a word ( rare, she knows --- but she doesn't want how enamored she is by it to somehow spook him into changing his mind ), letting him settle himself into the crook of her neck with only a delighted little hum to offer up. fingers are quick to weave themselves into his hair just behind his ear before they gently draw little lines towards the back of his head only to repeat the process.

the bathroom's still thick with steam as she secures her towel around her before moving on to wrapping her damp hair up into a knot at the crown of her head, unaware that alex has even come into the room until she feels the familiar tickle of stubble over her skin before his lips settle against her shoulder.

"aren't you sneaky ---" despite the warmth of the shower still clinging heavily to her skin he's gone and given her goosebumps; and while her shoulders might attempt to curl themselves in on the both of them ( an automatic response, of course; she's not about to tell him to stop even if it tickles ), her hand coming up to rest on the side of his face wants to keep him right where he is.

"y'know, ten minutes earlier you could've joined me in that shower."

bear update — under a cut for medical stuff … im on mobile atm so i hope the cut actually works

we’re at the emergency vet rn with bear — they biopsied a lump on her neck on monday and the news wasn’t great .. and now she’s super swollen and they’re concerned the tumo.r’s gotten super aggressive as a result of the biopsy… so if I disappear from the dash and ims for a little while, that would be why.

the majority of her experiences in settings like these have, up until now, had a much different slant to them ------- working the room had meant multitasking; a delicate balance of eavesdropping and keeping an eye on whoever the night’s target happened to be while not being the center of attention. it’s an aspiration that’s difficult to achieve now, no matter how much he wishes they could simply fade into the background of the other guests. the least she can do is offer up her hand for his to hold; be a united front against the onslaught of camera flashes and questions being shouted that won’t get any answers in return.

“doesn't seem like the best place to play hide and seek," she gives his hand a gentle squeeze as they make their way through the crowd, seeking out a far quieter corner of the room; a place she finds more familiar and he far more comfortable than being on display. the effort is made to lean in close, effectively pulling him in and away from the cameras ( and no one is going to pay top dollar for a picture of the back of bruce wayne’s head ), “we could always see if they’ll let us hide in the back with the caterers.”

his hands form a patchwork of scar tissue, skin battle-worn : flecks of blood and dirt still caught beneath his nails. calluses that leave his touch rough as her hand slips into his, palm against palm. ( wonders if she can feel where his knuckles are swollen, tissue distended over bone ). a slight twinge of discomfort as they accommodate her fingers between his. “ you won't lose me. ” sentinel at her side, her presence the only comfort amidst the gathered crowds. quick to retreat to a far corner in an attempt to avoid too much attention, the flash of cameras burning retinas, digging into his skull as the beginnings of a headache. “ we don't have to stay for long. ”

kiddo decided the one souvenir he wanted to bring home from the trip more than anything else was a cold, so that coupled with my entire being just going 'oh good you made it home we quit 🤍' meant yesterday was me pretty much a blob on the couch that checked the dash a couple times and called it a day. BUT. today we're all feeling better, so i have plans to be here AND ACTUALLY BE PRODUCTIVE & that includes following up with people who liked my plotting call from the other day. so expect me in your IMs soon 🤍
