Got around to writing a review on this book—
Other thoughts: Random: I read the book Ripe by Sarah Rose Etter a few months after reading this book (if I remember correctly) and in my mind when you put these stories in the same city it paints a devastating picture of socio-economic madness happening in Cali that you can see all over YouTube.

3.5/5 ..
More real thoughts include: .. I wanted more of something… even tho I don’t all of what exactly. That last story captured the fuck shit that happens to a lot of women who let ain’t shit dudes around them who just shouldn’t be there. It’s okay to be alone, sis! Let em go to a shelter! Just say no to the hobosexuals.

TUMBLR, you raggedy bitch.
Tumblr deleted my music for dinner music page.
I’m not entirely sure why, maybe a little but, I’ve seen way worse shit on the tumbs so I’m a little salty. I’ve been keeping TRID/MFD for awhile now.. and so I’m a little mad that they deleted the blog outside of just telling me about the offending posts
I’m not starting up a new one. I’m a little bit mad that I’m doing lost a bunch of info. Anyway, it’s directly encouraging me to go head and change things up. I’m not set on the avenues for change just yet, but I am thinking about it.
This platform tho - it got up under my skin today. Anyway, onwards and upwards. I’m going to come back with some what I’m readings when I’m less upset.
Update: they said it was a glitch — and reinstated the page, but.. all my links musicfordinner.net.

She looks incredible inside of course and she discusses the control that she’s been able to wield over her music, her brand, everything and we love that for the queen! 👸🏾
Can’t wait to see her in concert whenever she hits Toronto. Get into it!!!!

CURRENTLY READING :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it’s my day off and I’m chilling out as I usually do me and my baby laying in the bed my baby I mean Doggo and I’m just getting into the salt eaters. I’ve always wanted to really jump into Toni Cade Bambara’s work but I couldn’t find my footing. I realize now that it was because when I had attempted to read the book before it wasn’t making sense to me I went on Goodreads just to check out what some folks were saying about it and they agree that it was hard to navigate.
However, now I realize that I needed to read some other things to become more informed and those books lent clarity to this one. I wrote a couple notes in my favourite reading tracker app about what I was experiencing after I read chapter 1 and I actually wanna go back and start all over again because it was just so next level by the end of the time that I got to chapter 1 I was like holy shit. I might start all over. Anyway, just wanted to share.

RIP Young Queen
I remember watching her on Oprah when I was a kid and she was only a few years older than me and my mom and I and my sister and my brother talked about what was going on and why this young girl had aids it was a really transformational experience and I remember it clearly I’m so glad that she got to have a full life even though she deserved so much more. RIP.

White evil knows no bounds.
Honouring individuals 100 years after later after they were hanged by a white judicial mob? Okay. I hope those white descendants don’t feel like this is supposed to change something. Because fuck. I burn for those descendants who lost their loved ones to racism and violence. All of us.

My heart! My heart!
I finally finished this wonderful book today after attempting to read it for very long time.
I struggled through reading this book because they were just some moments as a person with experience dealing with those who suffer from addiction and anxiety and as someone who lost my best friend in a similar fashion, a talented black man and chef, who died of an accidental overdose, it just hurts my heart to connect all these dots. This book made me feel things deeply when reading. I just felt so overwhelmed at points with sadness because he was doing such great things and trying to heal not just himself but also his community through active representation, connection and presence. It hurts and it’s sad, and so much was lost when Michael K Williams passed. It’s just heartbreaking he is a really great representation of the quiet struggles that many people go through internally and externally.
Him speaking about the women who have helped him in his life from his friend Robyn to Queen Latifah to his mother (whom he also had a tumultuous relationship) was so insightful about so many things. How heavy the brothers leaning can be on sisters in society, but also how important it is for us to hold each other in love and confidence.
Him speaking on the importance of not throwing children away to the system.. about the importance of pushing for criminal justice reform and the things that go with it— mentoring, fathering-fostering, care, was absolutely necessary for a Black man to speak on, and those who get that know and don’t need to be told why and how important that is.
Finally, the images— illustrating how real, how vibrantly and strikingly real Michael was, his life was, how pensive and young and special he was — such an important image. You think of Kurt Cobain and Basquiat and others who’ve “played through the pain” and were impactful yet we’re still consumed by their grief and their struggle — Michael K Williams is on that list.

Great article. Chill evening read.
My thoughts are yes screenshots are ruining dating. But I also think that most screenshots that are posted are from people saying dumbass shit to people that is completely uncalled for or things that are just less than savoury that they wouldn’t say it to anyone else but that they feel comfortable saying it to a stranger. There’s also a lot of people in relationships that are faking that certain comments or sentiments are okay but then screenshotting those comments for later. That’s like - fuck, say something or break up already.

From: Night Fever
this is definitely white male thinking because I feel like anybody who had a good job, a good wife, kids, money — they would eventually be happy — anybody who is without those things that is. That’s just my thinking - the comic is still very good/entertaining.
