wip wednesday

a last minute decision but here’s a bit from the rosé mom fic i’ve had finished for like a month oops, hope yall like it! :)

It’s a sunny Saturday morning and Denali had to go to one of the strip malls in the Manhattan area to run some errands. But the traffic on the way there was packed and she had the feeling that the mall was gonna be the same. And her prediction was correct, taking her 5 minutes to find an empty spot to park and seeing the mass amount of people rushing around upon entering the mall. Denali was a patient person, even if her expressions often betrayed her, so she took a grounding breath and proceeded into the building.

She had completed two out of three of her mandatory stops, with only a couple quick distractions. As the blonde was on route to her last necessary stop, she saw an upset little redheaded girl in a bright yellow sundress standing next to a florist kiosk. Her heart ached seeing the distressed child. Letting her nurturing instincts take over and being careful not to scare the girl more, Denali walked slowly, crouching down to her level once she was close enough.

 “Hi there, are you lost?” She asked soft and quiet, yet still loud enough to be heard through the hustle and bustle of the mall. 

 The little girl cowered closer to the cart, arms crossed over her chest, “My mama told me not to talk to strangers.”

 “Your mama sounds very smart,” Denali giggled at the seriousness in the girl’s voice, “I promise I’m a good stranger, okay?”

 The child held out her hand with her littlest finger stuck up, “Pinky promise?”

Something I remember very clearly about Coraline was reading it in school. I’d say we were all 12/13 at the time and my class was given an opportunity to summarise the book for the supply teacher (who had only seen the film). Everyone except for me described the book as “coraline, the brave adventurer finds a hidden world that mirrors her own and she has to explore it while the other mother wants to make her stay forever”… Then we got to my description “coraline, is a terrifying story in which a neglected child is shown an opportunity of a better life however using her wits she discovers that the world she is proposed is far more terrifying than back at home, but her new ‘mother’ doesn’t want her to leave.” (something along those lines). Essentially, I described it in a way that suggests it’s scary.

The class, teacher and all, then tried to convince me it’s an adventure book not a horror story. In the end I got forced to sit next door for arguing back about how it has both features of adventure and horror. I even picked up the book, flicked through pages and pointed parts out to prove it but my entire class just groaned at me. Neil, confirm for me (though you have many times): Coraline CAN be a very scary story.

It can absolutely be a very scary story.

Denali meeting mob boss Rosé in her apartment for the first time

they already had their first meeting in the last prompt, i’ve just continued that storyline, hope you enjoy it!

It didn’t take Denali much to know that by ‘taking care of everything’, Rosé meant she would kill her boss.

The brunette had followed the instructions given to her before she left the gala to go to her small crappy apartment.

As soon as she closed the door behind her, she rested against the door feeling her heartbeat slowly steady.

She turned on the light only to be met by Rosé, who casually stood in the middle of her living room.

“How did you—“

“You think I couldn’t gather where you lived before I had my guys take care of your old boss?” she simply replied with the ever present charming smile on her face, “Now, what happens next is up to you, baby”

Denali chose to stay silent, calculating any possible escape route.

“I suggest you don’t do anything stupid, I got people surrounding the building”

It felt like the redhead was reading her mind.

“I just need to know one thing before we continue forward with this little conversation,” she went on as she rested against the counter, “How did you end up working for that man?”

Denali inhaled sharply, “My family owed a debt to the boss, I volunteered to join them as long as they left my family alone,” she replied calmly, keeping eye contact with Rosé.

“How long did they wait before killing your family off?” the redhead replied in a heartbeat.

“About a month, that was like two years ago. I had no one to go back to so I was forced to work with them, mostly petty crimes, and, uhm, some other things,” she hissed out, “I did what I had to do to survive”

Rosé studied her expression, “I’m going to give you a choice,” she walked up to Denali, slightly towering her thanks to the stilettos she was wearing.

She took the brunette’s chin, lifting it up, “You can join my little family as my kept girl, I’ll make sure you won’t have to lift a finger to get anything you want, all I ask for in return is your complete trust and faith in me, or—“

Denali could feel herself getting lost in those hazel eyes, “Or?”

Rosé tilded her head bringing her lips up to the brunette’s ear, “I erase your name from any criminal record, you’ll walk out of here with a new identity and away from a life of crime. No hard feelings, unlike others, I’m a woman of my word”

Denali furrowed her brows, not knowing if she could fully trust the woman.

Yet something inside her told her to take the chance.

“Anything I want?”

Rosé smiled, “All you have to do is ask, baby”

A little girl in my 4th grade class came up to me after recess and said, “I got married at recess!” and I said “Oh? I didn’t know anyone was ordained under the age of twelve.” and she asked me what ordained meant and I explained and then she said “Oh, well, no, my wife and I were married by the slide, but we’ll be happy together anyway.”
