psa about blocking people

feel free to reblog.

people have to seriously stop assuming that once they find out someone has them blocked (and i don't mean soft-blocked but hard-blocked), that that person hates them or that they did something wrong.

i've asked people and based on their answers people block most because:

they want to get a better variety of blogs recommended to them

they have blogs they are not interested in in their tumblr recs

they don't want blogs they are not interested in to follow them

they don't know the character / fandom and only have a limited amount of mental energy to learn about new characters / shows and will most likely not follow characters / shows they don't know.

they block for self protection with no ill intent (it is rarely because they hate the writer but it might be because the character you rp or the fandom they are from triggers them in some way or someone ignored their personal boundaries / invaded their safe space (either without or after a being told not to) / did something else (individual judgment necessary) and made them quite uncomfortable)

real life is catching up to them and they are overwhelmed

bolded points, i have found out, make the majority of reasons here.

it is an EXCEPTION that you are blocked because someone hates you. i, for one, block SOLELY based on disinterest. i don't hard block anyone because i dislike the person behind the blog unless absolutely necessary. in fact, i don't even know these people well enough to be able to judge them or care about them enough to do any blocking maliciously. i just judge what i see their blog (posts) is about, which (in my case being a role player) is the character or the fandom and if i find that i am not interested in their blog, why should i let tumblr keep recommending it to me?

it makes no sense. as does getting upset about ppl hard blocking you.

it is 2023 and i REALLY want people to be more at ease and be less anxious online. there is no reason to be in a constant state of mental agony online when it concerns strangers - people you have never even met before. it should not matter what they think about you, nor should it matter when someone has blocked you.

most people won't remember you. most people don't care about you. what they care about is how COMFORTABLE they are online and then act upon it. this might sound harsh but let's talk facts and look at it from a rational perspective: we all have our own personal lives and worries and get online to chill and relax. the LEAST thing we need is being guilt-tripped for something that has been offered to us to CHILL AND RELAX (or protect ourselves).

so let's not treat each other like criminals for something as trivial as a hard block.

What is going on with cutting posts?

You may have seen some posts floating around lately about the beta editor and trimming reblogs, and possibly found yourself extremely confused trying to figure out what this tangled web of editors, extensions, and add-ons even means. I’ve been on this site for years, and I still find the whole thing terribly confusing.

So this post is my effort to explain everything – legacy vs beta, New XKit vs XKit Rewritten, editable reblogs vs trim reblogs – everything. This also doubles as a tutorial for the various methods of cutting posts.

TL;DR

Tumblr is in the process of switching to a new post editor that some old users have opted into, while new users have been forced into it.

The old Editable Reblogs extension does not work with this new editor, requiring people to use a new extension called Trim Reblogs.

Trim Reblogs and Editable Reblogs are not compatible. If your partner uses Editable Reblogs, you cannot cut their posts properly using Trim Reblogs (unless you’re willing to do some tedious and frankly unreasonable workarounds).

The only way for everyone in the RPC to cut their posts properly and efficiently is if everyone moves to the new system and uses Trim Reblogs. Clinging to the old system with Editable Reblogs is actively creating issues for the people using the new system – some of whom do not have a choice.

i’m going to be switching to the new beta editor and using trim reblogs. that means that if you use the legacy editor and editable reblogs i won’t be able to cut my posts. trim reblogs is part of xkit rewritten and is fairly easy to use. i want to make this easy for everyone given that new blogs cannot use the legacy editor and therefor will have a harder time with cutting posts. i want to be part of the solution but also be ahead of the change and learn on my own time with it rather than wait it out like i normally do.

Ren had spent the last part of his life under Snoke’s control, doing his bidding and knowing he was never going to get anything out of this. But it was either this or go home and face whatever else was going to happen to him. So he’d ran and he was here, staring at Poe and listening to the words he didn’t know how to believe but could feel. He felt the compassion. “I’ve done too much to go back...she’ll never forgive me. Why should she...I destroyed it all and now I’m here. And I have to make the choice I don’t want to make when it comes to you.”

His arms wrapped around the boy to hold him close in a warm, familial hug. Obi-Wan knew what the young Solo needed, care and attention, an allowance to be himself and not what other expected him to be or who they feared he would be.

“Yes, I can teach you how to fix droids.” Obi-Wan said. “I can teach you a lot of things. I’ve been talking with your parents and uncle. I would like to be your Master to train you in the ways of the Force. Don’t worry. I know you want to be a pilot. You will be able fly.”

Ben was one of the people who seemed to not be scared of him, to not compare him to his grandfather and worry about the darkness that may lurk inside of him. It made Ben, little Ben, love him that much more.

He desperately wanted to be treated like his friends instead of being in the situation he was in because of his family legacy. It wasn’t lost on him that his grandfather had done great and terrible things but he also didn’t understand why that made people, even his family, seem so scared of him. He hadn’t done anything...not that he was aware of.

His face lit up when he pulled away at the answer to his question but he listened carefully and his smile only grew. “You mean I can do both?!” he asked, excited at the prospect of being able to fly while doing something his parents and uncle had been talking about.

As much as Ben pretended that he didn’t hear what his parents and adults said about him, even when they thought he couldn’t or wouldn’t hear him, he did. He loved his family but it was hard to like them when he felt so utterly alone at times. It had been Ben, the older Ben and the one he was certain his mother had named him after, that made him feel a little less alone. He didn’t treat him like he was dangerous in some way.

A smile appeared on his face at the sight of the toy droid, gently taking it and cradling it in his hands. “Thank you, uncle Ben!” he said as he moved to fling his arms around the older man, one hand holding onto the toy so it wouldn’t fall and break. “Can you teach me how to fix droids?”

He’s just a boy. His fate is uncertain. 

The Jedi Master came over to Ben Solo. The younger Jedi no doubt felt isolated and darkness would form in the boy’s heart, if it wasn’t forming already. He couldn’t lose another one in the Skywalker bloodline. But he also genuinely cared for the boy. It was time to take things into his own hands.

“Here.” Obi-Wan said before pulling out a little red and white toy droid for Ben. Lola seemed to activate and the toy droid gave a friendly chirp to the boy. “She needed some repairs but I got her fixed for you.”

Kylo slowly blinked as he looked at Vader, taking in the words that he was hearing. One of his darkest secrets was that he’d long since lost his trust in Snoke but he hadn’t let anyone else know or shown it because where could he possibly go. But having this option present itself in the form of his grandfather he couldn’t be more relieved, if not even more nervous. “It’s not you who needs to worry about failing. I hope I can life up to the expectations you set before me, that I can please you in my training,” he said, still formal because he didn’t want to let his fear show right now even though his voice was timid.

Ben didn’t hesitate as he kissed her back, wrapping his arms around her and just holding her as if she was the very thing keeping him here. He didn’t know where he’d been, what had happened to him during that year but he knew that he was here with her now and he wanted to be with her. 

“I’ve already done it, before I returned to the light...or as much as I could return to it,” he said gently. “By trying to destroy everything,” he said softly. “I want nothing more than to be with you and I will be here with you for as long as I’m allowed,” he promised. “How can you be so sure?”

“I… I do.” It had been tempting to try and cover it, try to hide how she felt. She was never really one for being vulnerable in front of people. That had never served her well. But it was the simple truth. And since he had come back to her, she didn’t want him to be ignorant of this truth.

His response made her beam. “You love me too? You really feel that way? Then why try to put walls between us? Don’t fight it anymore. We can be together, and things will work out.”

There was a part of Ben that had expected Rey to deny it, pretend that she hadn’t said it and he would live with that. It was something he’d learned to live with but hearing her confirm he gave her a gentle smile. How could someone like her love a monster like him? There was no denying that he’d done awful things, that he was too much like Vader and not enough all at the same time but he didn’t expect to be loved.

Ben nodded his head to confirm what he’d said and answer her questions. “Because having any sympathy or feelings for, not just you, but others, was a weakness. I also knew that I was too far gone to allow you that close to me. But in that last moment I figured I wasn’t going to make it off of that planet so I could show you my feelings and save you. I made peace with my fate because you lived. And now I’m here and I don’t want to hide behind the walls but I’m scared of disappointing you...of frightening you.”

“Relax. Your safe, Kylo. I won’t hurt my own grandson.” He tried to calm the other. Perhaps he wasn’t the Sith Lord that was anticipated. Perhaps he was more of a balanced Force User, but oh so happy to finally meet his grandson in person. 

He let got of Kylo after a moment, taking another good look at him.

“I like to fly as well. Some say that I was the best star pilot in the galaxy. I’m sure you have a ship, If not, we can build one that’s customized. I had a whole wing in my castle on Mustafar devoted to upgrading and customizing my ship in the Empire. Which reminds me, I really hope my old Master isn’t back around. Lets just say our last encounter didn’t end well.” He went on. “I’m glad that you have no cybernetics. I had four cybernetic limbs. Three of them were heavy as anything and broke more often than I would have liked. So much for the Empire having the best medical technology. It seems thr I have my limbs back this time and I’m no longer confined to that walking coffin.”

He seemed pretty excited. 

Vader reached out to gently take Kylo’s lightsaber to study it. He then turned away from Kylo to activate it, looking at the red blades that appeared. He was silent for a few moments before deactivating it. He turned back to Kylo and carefully placed  the lightsaber back in his grandson’s hands.

“That’s a unique design. I think a few old Sith Lords tried a deisgn like that but none of them were successful. You worked out the flaws. Well done.” Vader offered his grandson praise. “Now if you could tell me where I am and where we can get some food, I would appreciate that. Force, I would love to share a meal with you. I haven’t had a solid food meal in years.”

As much as Kylo wanted to what his grandfather asked him to do, to relax, he was having a hard time doing so. He’d expected the legendary Sith Lord that he was told stories about, compared to, not this man who seemed far more kind and gentle. Was everything he’d been told a lie or was the First Order leaving things out. “I’m sorry,” he said quickly, hoping not to offend Vader.

“They still say that. The stories of your battles are legendary and your skills are envied by many,” he admitted. “Not to mention you’re label as having so much Force sensitivity,” he admitted. Kylo didn’t want to say the wrong thing, he couldn’t risk this being an illusion and ending up on the wrong side of his own Master and punished for doing and saying the wrong things. “The First Order has given me a TIE Silencer to use as my personal fighting ship as well as a Upsilon-class command ship.” It was the truth but he knew they weren’t his, not really. The ships and everything he had, including himself belonged to the First Order and his own master. “As far as I know the Emperor has passed,” he stated. He only knew what he was told and he had to believe that even if part of him truly wondered if that was the case, especially with Vader standing before him. “I’m glad you no longer have to utilize the cybernetics or the suit,” he said, meaning it but also keeping his guard up. 

Kylo wanted to be excited to have his grandfather here but he also worried that perhaps he would disappoint the other. But it was also hard not to let the excited energy of the other infect him, even if he tried to keep it bottled up inside. 

His dark eyes watched as Vader took the lightsaber and inspected it, grateful when he turned away to ignite it. He waited for him to say anything but took it and replaced it in it’s spot on his waist.

“Thank you but the design was necessary. The kyber crystal is cracked, without the vents it would overload,” he said. His thoughts telling him that the lightsaber was like Kylo himself, flawed and unstable. “You’re on The Supremacy, Supreme Leader Snoke’s ship. I will have a droid bring a meal up, please make yourself comfortable.”
