in a week is THE hozier song not because of super fancy lyricism or music but because of the bits and pieces of the story we have.
it's feral. these lovers are covered in bitemarks, though not all of them are from insects (a thousand teeth, and yours among them I know) so clearly they got some before perishing because their 'hunger's appeased' before their hearts stop. there's an air of mystery here. who are these lovers? why are they here? why are they dying and what led them to this occasion? through the text we can infer it as suicide but we're never allowed the privilege of actually knowing. maybe they were destined to die, maybe they were killed but that doesn't MATTER! they're going cold, their corpses are rotting hand in hand and that's all you're allowed to know.
it's beautiful too. not the rotting part. the song describes insects and foxes eating their flesh, implies that their bodies are only found when the weather gets hot and the smell is able to be detected. they're found 'in a week' as the title of the song suggests so they're actively decomposing but all you can think about is how these corpses were once people that loved each other and how that love has persevered. they've become part of the earth, they've died and moved on but their affection to each other still lingers

Can we talk about the weird misogyny that’s in the idea that T makes trans men ugly.
The T making trans guys ugly idea always is joined with ‘women are destroying their beautiful feminine bodies to become men.’ Shit.
It’s just ‘a women’s (or people that society deems as women.) worth is connected to how pleasing/attractive they are to cishet men.’ idea.
Trans guys becoming masculine is seen as us losing value and worth as a person because we are no longer attractive to cishet men.

Blades In The Dark idea: The currency of your criminal underworld is abstract. A Coin is usually worth the same amount to anyone - though it may need to be converted from artwork to letters of credit, or from gold bars to a list of double agents. In this particular instance, your payoff for the latest daring score is a coupon for “buy 10 assassinations, get one free” with 9 stamps on it already. It’s worth four Coin, simply because of the legendary assassin who will honor this deal.

“There are some things, after all, that Sally Owens knows for certain; always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.” ~ Practical Magic ☆ Alice Hoffman

"You can run any setting or game in 5e, the DM just has to do a rules overhaul!" This is why your friend goes on social media and complains about being a forever DM.
#honestly yeah#I’m happy to be the 5e encyclopedia for my friends#and know all the rules enough to keep going#but it is SO unbalanced#and that’s by design#but also people not knowing the basics of their sheets after years of playing does make me want to tear my hair apart#do we think when I dm I’m just naturally magic and this stuff is always in my head#no I spend a lot of time on my downtime reading rule books memorizing niche rule interactions#and trying to memorize all of my players sheets so that I know what they can do what they can’t do and what they’re good at#SO that they can find ways to show off what makes them cool#and it’s just the way 5e is designed with book after book after book of rules that ultimately just shrug and hope the dm can handle it#let’s not even talk about how annoying building encounters is#I gotta balance them enough to make it interesting but not be unwinable#build all of the rooms and terrain in ways that can make combat dynamic and fun#keep the pressure on the players for so many sessions so they get the 4-5 combats a rest if you want to system to actually balance properly#but almost no players actually enjoy that style of play and it puts hours and hours of game time into combat#and almost all of this can be swapped by just changing systems to something that doesn’t bake it in this way#but no try getting a group of players to change rulesets#they don’t even know this one!!!! why’s it such a big hurdle#the grass is greener let me be a blades dm please#if my players read this - I promise this isn’t about you I love and adore you all#this is just game design in general and my qualms with 5e

There is a sort of constant battle between the two of them to the degree that they are fighting, but they are taking care of one another. When the sugar goes on the cheek of Patrick, Art takes it off with his hand in a very nice gesture of kindness -- and very intimate, I would say. But at the same time, they are really tense. And I think it’s about being jealous of one another, but at the same time wanting one another.
Challengers (2024) dir. Luca Guadagnino

Always keep mint on your windowsill in August, to ensure that buzzing flies will stay outside, where they belong. Don't think the summer is over, even when roses droop and turn brown and the stars shift position in the sky. Never presume August is a safe or reliable time of the year.
