:/ Sorry guys, buuut I think I’m gonna have to go on indefinite hiatus because I’m just not feeling RPing right now. Like I said, I’m feeling really discouraged about a lot of stuff in my life right now (nothing really serious, but it’s still enough to kill any muse I have.) I’ll hopefully be back sometime, because I really like Miles and I’ve enjoyed my threads with you guys. Anyway, see you guys later hopefully!

//Hey, guys this is a semi-hiatus announcement! I'm just feeling discouraged about a lot of things right now, so I don't feel much like RPing at all. I'll do replies, I'll just keep being slow about it.

So, she didn’t seem to know that they were the same species. Maybe she presumed he was someone who had simply seen too much violence. The dead man’s limp hands swung like pendulums as she swung him over her shoulder.
“I have some experience in that area.” He didn’t want to help her. When it came to the feeding habits of other vampires, he didn’t want to be involved. But then, didn’t the dead man deserve some sort of burial. “But as you said, I could also walk away. You would likely prefer that.”
Tumblr media
“You could. You could just walk away.” The body of a middle aged man hung in her arms, and she merely shrugged. “People have seen worse and walked away. But, you seem to be the first to have caught me like this.” She wiped away the blood on her lips, and tossed the man over her shoulder as if he were but a drunkard. “So–don’t suppose you’re any good at hiding bodies?”

“Ah, no thank you. No margaritas.” Though it was possible that this experience might be more tolerable if he were drunk, sadly, that was no longer a possibility due to his...nature.
He followed her to the table, placing himself on the edge of the chair across from her. It was rickety, and one leg groaned and squealed, trembling like an old man. This situation was just about as well held together as the chair, and just as likely to break. He sat straight up, hands flat against his legs.
“I was simply wanting palm reading and future telling. No seances, please.” Fraud or not, he wasn’t interested in prodding the veil between worlds. If an afterlife did exist, he didn’t like the idea of the spirit of someone he had killed speaking to him.
Tumblr media
“Well, c’mon in,” she slurred through a murmur as she surveyed the young man from head to toe. She ushered him in, her floral kimono shawl billowing behind her. She slammed the door to her stuffy, liquor and nicotine laced apartment. “Want anything to drink? I made marrrr-garitas,” she crooned. She  plopped herself down in a chair at the circular table in the center of her kitchen. She swished around the pale green substance and tipped back another gulp. “So… Miles… What exactly didja have in mind today? Simple palm reading, lil bit of future tellin’…” She leaned forward. Dramatic darkness swirled in her eyes.  “Or something more… Ominous?”She leaned back. “I do seances and spirit communications for fifty bucks.” Sluuuuuuurp.

“I suppose she ate something that disagreed with her. So, did your experimentation with the fish lead to any sort of beneficial findings?”
Tumblr media
“She did spend a time as a food tester, which, sadly, led to her demise. She was a bit of an experiment as I was trying to ascertain the limits of what magic could give and revoke.”

“Your concern is commendable. Many new vampires do not have anyone to give them pointers or to guide them, so they end up making some quite foolish decisions, especially in this modern era when cameras seem to be everywhere.”
Tumblr media
❝ That’s a solid point. Far as anyone knows, death is still a pretty permanent and irreversible thing. Guess I tend to forget things like being, bein’ dead myself and all. Suppose I’m just concerned is all–I have a progeny, myself, only about a year into this business. Sometimes I worry for him, wanna make sure he’s not gonna wind up in any trouble over things I never had to worry about. ❞

“I know that. I wasn’t suggesting that clients should extract the oils themselves. I was simply speaking hyperbolically to make a point about how over-expensive some essential oils can be.” Clearly, this woman was terribly passionate about aromatherapy and essential oils. Perhaps it was a hobby of hers, perhaps she was some sort of herbalist. He understood passion, but it was still a bit annoying that she didn’t seem to be listening to the true meaning of his words. She only seemed to be latching on to the pieces of information she found important.
Tumblr media
“...I don;t think sending the ‘rogue’ aromatherapists to the moon would be advisable, morally or financially. Besides, what if they set up their own alternative medic colony on the moon? Then NASA’s future moon colony will be overrun by people hawking essential oils to those poor astronauts.”
“’Wring the oil out themselves’…? Dear, please, creating the oils is a skilled process. You can’t just use any old plant or plant part, and you can’t use just any old amount, either. Even the least toxic oils will become so in high enough amounts; it’s too dangerous for clients to do it themselves if they don’t have enough ‘know-how’.” Still, exasperated or not, even SHE had to concede to some of his points… There were more than enough ‘poor’ aromatherapists around giving equally-poor advice and treatments at outrageous prices. It was disgraceful.
Tumblr media
“Then those people either need further, more ‘specialized help’, or they’re being fed unfortunate information… Or both.” Quirking a brow, River crosses her arms, “…Perhaps we should round-up the ‘rogue’, harmful aromatherapists, and jettison them to the moon?”

The masked man had no reason to be suspicious of him, but his question still prickled the back of his neck. One of the things that had been hard to get used to after he was turned was constantly lying about his essential nature. Lying was not innate to him, but he’d had to at least accept that lies were what kept him existing. “To some extent. I am the sort of person that makes decisions that others do not always understand.”
Tumblr media
“Yes.” It was strange, not to have the man FIRING immediate questions about his          mask; such was the usual reaction to seeing him. The man’s steady demeanour          calmed him somewhat, his stance loosening slightly even as golden eyes watching          the man warily. “You sound as if you speak from EXPERIENCE.”

“Truthfully, much of my knowledge about crime and its associated databases are from the media. Though I’ve done a bit of legitimate research. I haven’t run into many younger vampires, but I would guess that even though their fingerprints are taken at birth, they are still believed to be dead. Without other evidence, it would be hard to convince a police chief that a dead person is responsible for murders.”
Tumblr media
❝ That’s definitely a good point. Though I’ve been watching some of those shitty late night crime shows lately and it’s got me wondering how more modern vampires are gunna cope–if they take things like fingerprints at birth now and put them in a database they can use against you when you’re older, won’t the younger vampires be traceable? I mean, my fingerprints are in no databases and neither are yours, so we don’t have to worry about such things… ❞

“Yes, I suppose this line of conversation is a bit unusual, but there’s a first time very everything isn’t there?” He cherished conversations like this, snatched during the few hours of daylight that his body could tolerate. Conversations with nighttime folk usually were quite different, as well...individuals awake primarily during the daytime had entirely different demeanors to this woman. “I don’t much believe in wishing wells, and many fulfilled wishes could be due to coincidence. But the idea that they truly work is a nice one. And who knows, maybe some of them are genuine? I’ve seen stranger things.”
Yes, like being turned into an immortal creature that he had initially thought only existed in the realms of superstition.
Tumblr media
“I gotta say-” She laughed warmly smiling up at the other as shoulders relaxed a bit more in his presence. “-this is by far one of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever had. And I’ll admit the fist few times of wishing could be chalked up to coincidence. Things that could be assured of happening, but my wish at a different well was…unreasonable. That is hypothetically if wishing wells were really real. I like to think the one I know of in Germany really does work, but I haven’t been to it since I was little.”

That was indeed a good question, for when Miles proffered his help, he wasn’t certain where he was going to immediately take Smike. He supposed that there really wasn’t any place to take him at the moment besides his own home. Once they were safely within his own abode, he could figure out where this man could ultimately be taken.
Tumblr media
“My home. It is quite safe there, and I doubt your pursuer would have any idea as to where it is.”
Was this man really going to help him? Smike had half a mind to run away right then and there, but another look over his shoulder told him that Mr Squeers was not going to let up in his pursuit. He ducked his head again, but nodded at the man’s words, hobbling up to his side.

“Where–where’re we gonna go?”

Well, she wasn’t completely wrong that, for much of the centuries that he had lived through, it would have been proper to let a lady win, rather than simply win a game through brute force. But it was also true that in most time periods women would not go around challenging strange men to arm wrestling matches. It simply wouldn’t have been proper.
Tumblr media
“It would be considered gentlemanly by some, I suppose, but wouldn’t most women nowadays consider it old fashioned to let them win? It’s more fair to put up a fight and let the best party win.”
But then, an arm wrestling match between a human that was comparatively fragile when matched against a vampire wasn’t exactly a fair competition, no matter how one sliced it. He slid his hand away from hers and set it down in his lap.
“So, is your brother named Thor?” He grinned. It was only a partial joke--from what he knew, it was actually quite common for Scandinavians to have names pulled from Norse mythology. “I’m glad to meet you too. I would say that you’re a worthy opponent, but you did try to cheat.”
Tumblr media
Iðunn let out an odd noise akin to a squeak,    laughing as she struggled    against the force of his hand.    For what she lacked in brute strength, she    made up for with sheer determination,       eventually cheating by bringing    her other hand into the equation,  but to no avail. No matter how hard she    tried, she was no real match,        and her hand was dragged down to the    table fairly quickly.      Laughing, she brushed her hair away from her face    and pouted at him.       “The gentlemanly thing to do is to let the lady win,”    she teased him, nudging him with her foot under the table.      “That’s the    proper etiquette, you know!” Like she cared for such things.
“Iðunn,” she repeated the name,        saying it a tad slower so he could    catch the pronunciation. “When I was little,  my brother would always call    me Idu ‘cause it was easier. We were born in Sweden.   My parents were    pretty big on Scandinavia as a whole, but particularly the folklore.”     She    veered off, realising she was probably talking too much again.     “Nice to    meet you, Miles. A worthy opponent.”
