According to me, it's bad advice regardless of if you have fun or not. Above all else, the story you tell is for you, and then for the readers because
1) if you didn't add any fun stuff or enjoy writing your piece, your readers can tell. how can you convince people to like something that you don't care about?
2) all the 'fun' bits like silly moments between the cast, taking time to explain concepts about the world you created - adds to the pacing, characterization, worldbuilding of your story. All equally, if not more important, than the plot.
A piece of writing advice I've always fucking hated is "only add things that further the plot." Because no. Add stuff for fun. Give your mom a cameo. Have these characters be in love because. And yes, have characters die because. There doesn't have to be a reason for everything. The universe doesn't give a reason for everything. Why should you? And if you never add stuff for fun, you're never going to have fun.

Negative or positive trait, love to see it
Character flaws are great and all, but you know that trope of the protagonist having a certain trait/quality/power in the story's world and everyone they meet is taken aback by just how Trait/Quality or Powerful they are? Yeah I eat that shit up.

killua went from being the only person who didn't give a shit that gon was literally being beaten up in front of him during the hunter exam to tailing and protecting gon during a harmless date. went from being completely caught up in feeling inferior to gon, to trying to break free of his insecurities of not being good enough for gon. went from barely remembering the names of the people he gave the hunter exam with to making new friends all by himself. went from being consumed by his loneliness and hyperindependence to needing to just be with people, to spend time with gon and alluka. went from

companies are delusional if they think consumers don't notice shrinkflation. less food in the package, less medicine in the jar, less whatever in the wherever, it doesn't matter where and it's almost always noticeable. like i just finished one box of medicine and we opened another allegedly identical one that we just bought and lo and behold, the four middle medicine segments were gone from the package. they took out four pills from the same sized box and sold it at the same price without any indication on the box other than the small number in the corner. ridiculous

Any of these traits in a male character with the bare minimum backstory, or literally just two traits at a time, would be considered a Complex Character.
You can’t win as a woman in fiction. Be too positive, you become a Mary Sue, have flaws and those flaws are why almost nobody likes you. Be moderate, you have wet-cabbage personality, be exuberant, you are an unrealistic example. Have strong morals, and you’re badly developed, be morally corrupt and you’re hated with such vigour fans will send hate mail to the actress who plays the character. Be kind and soft and in love, you’re a representation of sexism, be cruel, harsh and cold and you’re just a bitch. Be a complex, realistic, ambiguous character, and either your flaws or your positive traits will be ignored or blown out of proportion and into oblivion. There is no winning for female characters.
