'The Evil Dead' Returning to Theaters for Groovy 40th Anniversary Screenings.
The Evil Dead is returning to theaters for its 40th anniversary later this year, proving the staying power of Sam Raimi's microbudget horror classic. Additionally, the always groovy Bruce Campbell will deliver an exclusive introduction to audiences. The special limited screenings will be brought to theaters everywhere by Fathom Events and Grindhouse Releasing, AND Lionsgate Home Entertainment will be releasing a collectible box set of The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and three seasons of Ash vs. the Evil Dead.
The Evil Dead spawned an incredible franchise that is still ongoing today, but in 1981 it was a microbudget horror film that gave us now-classic horror tropes like the cabin in the woods, reading Latin aloud to revive evil spirits, as well as one of the most iconic heroes of all time — Campbell's Ash. The original Evil Dead follows Ash, his girlfriend, his sister, and their friends as they stay in a remote cabin for a weekend getaway. In the basement, they find the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (aka The Book of the Dead), and unwittingly reawaken the dead when they read the Latin aloud. What happens next is the perfect blend of camp, comedy, and horror, as the inhabitants quickly become possessed and fight each other to the death.
Grindhouse Releasing co-founder Bob Murawski said of the re-release, "We are proud to present this special 40th anniversary screening of Evil Dead with Fathom Events. The original film has always been my favorite of the series. It is truly one of the scariest and wildest horror films of all time. I’m thrilled that a new generation of fans will have the chance to experience it in the way I first did — on the big screen with a screaming audience!” The franchise is still not over either, as Raimi and Campbell plan to reunite for Evil Dead Rise, the fourth film in the series. According to Campbell, production will start this year in New Zealand, and will actually feature a female heroine as the protagonist. Which unfortunately does mean that we will not be seeing Ash again, nor will Raimi direct, but both will serve as executive producers on the film. Raimi handpicked The Hole in the Ground's Lee Cronin as the writer/director, which will be released by HBO Max in 2022.
While there was a soft reboot of the original film in 2013, Evil Dead Rise will follow the original trilogy, and be one of the first films to take the action into an urbanized area. The female protagonists will be two estranged sisters who must reunite to survive another Deadite revival as they take over the city. Vikings' Alyssa Sutherland and Mental's Lily Sullivan will play the two sisters.
The 40th-anniversary screenings of The Evil Dead will premiere on Thursday, October 7 at 7:30 PM (local time). You can buy tickets on Friday, August 13 at www.FathomEvents.com and through participating cinemas’ box offices.

Evil Dead: The Game’ Likely Arriving Early 2022, According to Bruce Campbell.
We’re all hungry for Evil Dead: The Game, which is an obvious statement. The question is, just when is it coming out? There was no mention of a release date last month when we had our first taste of the game in action, and much of the speculation has the game coming out this year. However, according to the man himself, Bruce Campbell, we might have to wait a bit longer.
During a Q&A session at the Fingerlakes Drive-In in Auburn, New York on Friday night to promote the 40th anniversary of the original Evil Dead, Campbell was asked about Evil Dead: The Game. According to Campbell, the game has a target date of February 2022. The reasoning behind this is because according to Bruce, developers Saber Interactive want to do “one upgrade” to be as “bitchin’ as any other game out there.”
“The problem with these games is that they make them and then the platform is outmoded,” says Bruce.
Neither Boss Team Games or Saber Interactive has commented on the release date yet, nor have they confirmed anything Bruce has said.
Evil Dead: The Game is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Mia Challis Boards HBO Max Sequel ‘Evil Dead Rise’.
EXCLUSIVE: Mia Challis (Clickbait) has joined the cast of writer/director Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise.
She’ll appear opposite previously announced cast members Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Jungle) and Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist, Vikings).
Evil Dead Rise is an HBO Max sequel to 2013’s Evil Dead, which served as a soft reboot of the supernatural horror franchise of the same name. In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.
Challis will play Jessica, an 18 year old girl, who is obsessed with fashion and Instagram. Jessica loves to be the center of attention, although she is smarter than she lets on…
Warner Bros., New Line Cinema and Ghost House Pictures are producing the feature, which is being filmed on location in New Zealand. Creatives involved with the original 1981 Evil Dead film that are backing the latest in the franchise include writer, director and EP Sam Raimi, EP and producer Robert Tapert, and EP-actor Bruce Campbell, who famously starred as Ash Williams.
Tapert will produce Evil Dead Rise, with Raimi and Campbell exec producing. Additional executive producers include Romel Adam, John Keville and Macdara Kelleher.
Challis will soon be seen in Clickbait, an eight-episode thriller from Netflix and producer David Heyman, playing the recurring role of Jenny Henson. Additional credits include the pilot presentation Pieces, produced by After Eden Pictures, and director Mishal Muhmad’s short film, Witness.
The actress is represented by Karli Doumanis at Brave Artists Management, Stewart Talent and Moore Creative Artists (AUS).

Army of Darkness 1979 releasing this September.
Just when we thought Dynamite was done releasing Army of Darkness comic book spinoffs for the year, yet another called Army of Darkness 1979 is releasing this September!
Ash is back, baby… in the groovy 1970s?! Army of Darkness: 1979 debuts this September from critically acclaimed writer Rodney Barnes.
The superstar creator of the hit Image Comics series Killadelphia brings his supernatural horror chops to one of the genre’s most (in)famous characters. Ashley Joanna Williams finds himself this time in late 70s New York City. In a less cleaned up era, that means gangs tussle for every block in the South Bronx. And these particular gangs model themselves after zombies and vampires. Things only get even more out of control when they find the one and only Necronomicon!
“I relished the opportunity to take on Army of Darkness,” said writer Rodney Barnes. “The tone is different from everything I’ve done to date, so there’s that challenge. I loved the film and the graphic novels based on the film, so it’s an honor to add my name to the great folks that have done the books prior to this one.”
Barnes is joined in this horror flashback romp by artist Tom Garcia (Pathfinder, Hellraiser), colorist Dinei Ribero, and letterer Troy Peteri. This crew assembles together to guide Ash through his latest comedy horror adventure. But will he or even the creative team survive the journey?
With his background as a screenwriter and producer in Hollywood, Barnes has contributed to The Boondocks, My Wife and Kids, Everbody Hates Chris, Marvel’s Runaways, American Gods, and is currently an executive producer/writer on HBO’s untitled drama following the 1980s “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers. With his love of film and 1970s culture, Barnes is pulling from cult classics like The Warriors on this Army of Darkness tale. Within comics, Barnes is the creator of the Eisner Award-nominated Killadelphia, and has written Falcon and Lando (Star Wars) for Marvel.
Rodney’s co-creator and collaborator on Killadelphia, Jason Shawn Alexander, joins on for the lead cover. Zombie maestro Arthur Suydam contributes one of course, with an homage to Escape from New York. And they’re joined by Junggeun Yoon and Stuart Sayger, with their own memorable styles of Ash.

New Line’s ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Adds Young Trio to Cast (Exclusive).
New Line has found some fresh meat for Evil Dead Rise, the latest chapter in the Evil Dead horror franchise.
Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies and Nell Fisher have joined Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan in the feature, which goes before cameras in June and is intended for HBO Max.
While most of the other Dead movies revolved around the demonic goings-on at a cabin in the woods, the new tale takes the corpses to the city and tells of two estranged sisters (Sutherland and Sullivan) whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival.
The original Evil Dead filmmaking team is involved in this chapter, with Robert Tapert producing, and Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell serving as executive producers. Also exec producing are Romel Adam, John Keville and Macdara Kelleher.
Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin, hand-picked by Raimi, Tapert and Campbell, wrote the screenplay and is directing.
Echols, Davies and Fisher are all actors on the rise. Echols is making her feature acting debut in Reminiscence, Warner Bros.’s sci-fi movie from Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan and starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson.
Davies had a breakout role playing a trans boy in Australian TV series The End. His string of credits include appearing with Carmen Ejogo in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience for Starz, Storm Boy with Geoffrey Rush and Jai Courtney, and the Steven Spielberg-exec produced series Terra Nova.
Fisher made her acting debut in the short film Splendid Isolation with her feature bow set to be post-apocalyptic action feature Northspur.
Echols is repped by Paradigm, Play Management, The X Division and Morris Yorn. Davies is repped by Catherine Poulton Management, Circle of Confusion and Derek Kroeger at Myman Greenspan. Fisher is repped by Gail Cowan Management.

Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction - Los Angeles - June 29th, 30th, & July 1st, 2021 06/29/2021 9:00 AM PDT: Lot # 74: EVIL DEAD II (1987) - Cabin Model Miniature.
If you have around 20-30 thousand dollars lying around then you can possib ly acquire this original cabin miniature from Evil Dead 2. You can bid at the link above.
This lot will be auctioned on Tuesday, June 29th. The auction will begin at 9:00am PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on June 30th or July 1st. A cabin model miniature from Sam Raimi's supernatural horror film Evil Dead II. Miniature cabins were used in several special effects sequences, including the stop-motion scene when Linda's (Denise Bixler) corpse danced for Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) and the "tree attack" sequence which Campbell directed himself. Two cabins are known to have been built for the film. While a "forced perspective" version of the cabin was built by modelmaker James Belohovek, this non-forced perspective model was constructed by Robert "Bob" Dyke's visual effects group Magic Lantern Productions, and used primarily in the climactic tree attack finale. According to Dyke, the miniature was constructed with boards over the windows which could be moved when additional lighting was needed, and with no floor in order to allow Campbell to orchestrate more elaborate camera set-ups. In its current state, the model features the same boards that were in place for its final shots. This cabin is constructed of wood, metal, and foam with black fabric mesh in some of the windows. Like the full-size cabin, it features shuttered windows, a front deck, and a carved foam chimney painted to resemble stone. The entire model is heavily distressed by production to match the damage that the cabin had taken by that point in the film, including two large holes in the front door, a broken chimney top, and the boarded windows. The interior features wiring and electronic elements from an internal lighting setup. Also included is a Letter of Authenticity from Dyke. It is in good overall condition with some wear from production and age, including broken edges on the roof and chips in the wood. The model ships in a custom-made crate requiring special shipping arrangements. Dimensions: 54" x 38" x 26" (137.25 cm x 96.75 cm x 66.25 cm) Contains electronic components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide. Special shipping required; see notice in the Buyer's Guide. Estimate: $20,000 - 30,000
