Day 1
Welcome to my blog called The Warrior RA! Enjoy these pictures of me in front of parking structure 2 with a housing sign, AWD, and WSU School of Medicine’s research building. My name is Tanjiro and I am one of Rameesha’s little spider residents :)
I made this Tumblr to talk about my RA Rameesha that is applying for her third year as an RA this coming fall. She should be hired to be a returning Resident Advisor for the 2022-2023 academic year because of her extensive involvement and dedication to the WSU and Detroit community. She has been a part of the Wayne State student body since 2017 and wholeheartedly enjoys interacting with students of all different backgrounds and experiences. RA Rameesha started off as a commuter up until 2019 when she first became an RA. The direct positive impact she is making on all of us is what makes her want to continue the role. This blog is to talk a little bit about my experiences with RA Rameesha over the next 10 days and why I believe she would be a great returning candidate. Enjoy!

Day 2
Exam day! Studied as much as my little spidey brain could hold. My RA does a great job in encouraging me to prioritize my studies. She is a prospective medical student, so she definitely knows the importance of being able to balance academics with personal life. Her creative bulletin boards and RA programming related to academic success have been especially helpful in my success! Fun fact: the two times RA Rameesha won bulletin board of the month were both in Octobers - AKA Halloween month where us creepy crawly spideys thrive.
Dr. Webbi said I have to put my phone away, so I will log off for now. Wish me luck!

Day 4
Snowstorm!! All of the snowflakes were flying in my face. ❄️
I took today’s snow day to relax with my RA and reflect on life. One of the biggest things on her mind right now is that she is still on the medical school waitlist for Wayne State School of Medicine. This is her second time applying for medical school, but first time being invited to interview with them back in October. She’s super hopeful to get off that waitlist and attend this coming fall if she can. Otherwise, she will be finishing the last part of her Master’s this fall/winter and continue as a 3rd year RA. The stories she told me about being an RA made it clear that she learned so many skills that would be applicable in medical school and beyond. I noticed she’s very balanced, knowledgeable, and caring with her residents. I’m sure her future patients will appreciate the professional development she’s had throughout the RA years.
My RA and I are about to make some hot chocolate and do some duty rounds together. See you later!

Day 5
Today I went grocery shopping with my RA! While we were walking down the candy aisle (the best aisle), we saw so many other spidey students of all ages. I asked my RA what type of student she thinks she would be most successful working with, and I wasn’t surprised at her answer at all. Because she’s older and is at the end of her Master’s degree program, she thinks she would be best compatible with older students that she can relate more of her experiences to.
My RA graduated with her Bachelor’s back in 2020 (which is why there was a gap between her RA years!). Rameesha had the opportunity to deliver the graduation speech on behalf of her cohort and was able to reflect upon and draw from her many wonderful experiences as an RA. She was fortunate to work with graduate and international students from 2019-2020 at University Tower Apartments and enjoyed the 8th floor at AWD for 2021-2022, so she told me she’d love to work with the older college crowd. Her patience and ability to work with a diverse student body is one of her best qualities.
We’re about to go to the register now. I hope the cashier isn’t afraid of spiders.

Day 6
Writing in my secret journal tonight! Here was my entry:
Dear Diary, There are so many things that happened in the last week. First, I did awesome on my first Spiderology exam! Professor Webbi said he was proud of me.
Also, don’t tell anyone, but I talked to my RA today for a really long time. We talked a lot about our challenges in life at the moment, and she was telling me how her greatest challenge as an RA is keeping up with resident connections and balancing her time. I can tell she is very introverted as a person, but tries hard to maintain these relationships with each and every one of us. Also, she’s definitely a busy girl - with working at Henry Ford, doing volunteer research through WSU SOM, being a full time graduate student, and being an RA, it’s clear she has mastered the art of time management even though it can be difficult sometimes. She told me I can overcome similar obstacles by figuring out the best tactics for my lifestyle and finding ways to keep myself accountable, like this journal or the help of someone I trust.
I have a lot to do tomorrow, and it’s already almost midnight. Goodnight!

Day 8
My fellow 8th floor resident Nezuko and I eating dinner together. We met at my RA’s floor meeting at the beginning of the semester when we did quick introductions. It’s been 6 months since that initial meeting and I can tell my RA has the same amount of enthusiasm as she had at the beginning of the school year. I’m sure she was just as dedicated when she was an RA back in 2019. If she has the opportunity to return again, I can already tell my RA will channel that same energy to her new residents through personal interactions, RA programming, and increased involvement with our critter community.
Nezuko and I plan to attend all of our RAs future programs and we can’t wait for our next Warrior Rumbles!

Day 9
My RA told me a lot about the importance of self-care and how it can help develop myself as a person. She supports me and other spidey residents in our hobbies and what we enjoy for our own personal responsibility and development. For me, that would be appreciating music. I like to go to a lot of concerts and visit the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) every weekend. In fact, I found out about the $25 season pass for students because of my RA’s January program about student discounts!
If my RA gets to return for her 3rd year as an RA this fall, I know she will continue using the residential curriculum in a positive way to encourage me and the rest of us spider residents. Catering specifically to the needs of every individual spider helps make her impact more effective on a personal level. My favorite category is definitely Warrior Pride. Nezuko said she appreciates my RA’s efforts in Social Justice and Equity the most!
