I think about this a lot, how the way Yanma talks about the privilege of having loved ones subtlety changes over time. Because I think it's deliberate, that in the past he says he's got nothing, but when he's talking about it with Himeno (who says "anyone") he mentions only his parents. Because by that point, he's probably starting to realize he *does* have people he cares about, in ways more than just his duty to his country. And by the time episode 35 roles around, forget about it; he's got a loved one.
It's one of those little details about KingOhger that makes it so good!

In my classroom, I'm a big believer in food positivity.
Are we predominantly a bunch of Whitey McWhitersons who eat basic American food? Yeah. But I work with three- and four-year-olds, whose palates are still refining and whose food experiences are, for the most part, still expanding.
So I try my hardest to use positive language, especially in regards to new foods or "yucky" foods.
If you're in my room at mealtimes, you're often likely to hear "you shouldn't say a food is yucky or disgusting. It's better to say 'I haven't tried that' or 'I don't like that' because the person eating probably does like it. It's not yucky to them." I'm big on talking with kids about the importance of trying new or "yucky" things multiple times because it can take a while to decide if you like something -- Or that you may change your opinion with time.
If a kid tells me they don't like something I do, I usually say "well, it's good that it's mine, then. I DO like it."
And this attitude generally works; the kids in my class are consistently good eaters and willing to try things.
I like to think I'm doing my bit in that way -- Raising kids with healthy, positive attitudes about food.
My absolute hottest take is that, from a culturally relative perspective, no food is bad. None of it. It's an expression of culture, art, history, ecology, material conditions, subjective taste. It's all inedible pap to somebody and the taste of childhood for someone else. Americans be eating cheesed burger. Pea wet is as good as gravy in Wigan. The French eat snails and the Inuit eat seal, the Germans eat sauerkraut and the Russians drink kvass, the Inca ate cavy and the Romans ate flamingo. People around the world have been eagerly awaiting their serving of simple bread or thin porridge or fermented milk product or pickled whatever-the-fuck since we learned to cook food over fire. We all love the slop we grew up eating. Food is a reflection of millennia of culture and loving human artistic expression. Attempting to extrapolate largely harmless online food banter into actual serious comparative rankings or half-baked critical analyses of cultures based on how much you subjectively don't like what they eat is a miserable way to live. Live a little. Peace and love on the only planet with food.

-Pretty sure he just carries drinks for Yanma around in his messenger bag, or else he just whipped that out of nowhere
Little things about Shiokara that make him extra dear:
-He is the only one who doesn't sit in his king's seat
-At some point between episodes 27 and 39, he learns to effectively pilot God Tonbo
