i care so much about physical media. and devices that only do one thing but really well.

I was actually talking to my partner about this just today and I think it's tied with the recent(ish) movement that gen z (and younger millenials like myself) are having towards using older technology. I know several kids in their teens who use old point and shoot cameras, discman/walkmans, cd players and dvd/vhs players from the 2010s/2000s specifically because theyre devices that AREN'T a tiny super computer with all the world's eyes and information you keep in your pocket. They'll still have and use a phone but a growing number of them prefer to listen to music and watch things on devices that are designed to only play music/movies and nothing else, with no ads or internet reliance, and owning physical media like cds/dvds means companies can't take it away later. Kids are taking point and shoots or even disposable film cameras on outings because even if the final image quality isnt as good as the latest phone camera, they're able to take pictures of their friends and make memories without dealing with the possible distractions a phone will bring and they want to ~live in the moment~ more (and the battery life is literally days longer than a phone).

Obviously theres also the novelty of using vintage(😭) tech and plenty use them for the aesthetic too but so many gen z kids are just. so sick of being connected to everything all the time always and theyre trying to go back to how it was 10-20 years ago. It's really nice to see :,)
