The fishing paradox

I would like to get a fishing rod for catching fish.

In order to create a fishing rod I need to get some string. My kids tell me that spiders drop string. But since I am playing in Peaceful I haven't met any.

@iyunia then told me that I can get string as gifts from a cat but I have to tame it first - by giving it raw fish. Which leads me back to wanting a fishing rod in the first place 😅

Get string -> Build a fishing rod -> Catch fish -> Tame cat -> Get string

(Iyunia also told me that sometimes I can get both fish and meet cats at villages, I still find that paradox kinda funny though).

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.

I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.

One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.

The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?

The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”

I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.

It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.

Headcanon: Veeva Dash was the one who came up with the parrot plan. Hit The Target, on the other hand, despised the idea since its conception.

Since parrots mimic sounds, and this parrot was spying on Stampy all the time, it probably started mimicking Stampy’s laugh. A laugh which Target is notably Not Very Fond Of. (In Saving The World, he describes it as sounding like “a fox with hiccups”)

He’d just be chilling and then he’d hear that laugh and think God Fucking Damn It I Hate This Annoying Ass Bird He probably didn’t even like the idea of Veeva getting any animal she could pack bond with. You know. Because like. His dog was stabbed to death BY STAMPY in front of his eyes. Target def sees Stampy as far more cruel to animals than he actually is (at least in modern day), and in his mind, a plan that uses an animal in such close proximity to Stampy would lead to one more dead animal.

No clue where Veeva hid that parrot because she sure as fuck wasn’t keeping it in that castle if Target had anything to say about it.

Mobility aids aren't props for your cosplay.

If you don't know I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user, a cane and forearm crutch user. I am also a passionate cosplayer, the cosplayer ambassador for a 3rd printer, a panelist, and convention volunteer. But most of all I'm against abled bodied cosplayers buying mobility aids for cosplay.

Another wheelchair user I know ran into a cosplayer who bought a very nice used wheelchair just for a cosplay. One that someone like me could be using instead. I went to a con in my wheelchair a few months ago, and there was an able bodied cosplayer, using a wheelchair as a prop. It looked nothing like an actual usable chair. I was to say to say anything, but got asked throughout the day if my wheelchair was a prop.

Don't cosplay a disabled character, and buy mobility aids that people who need could use. It's not funny, it makes you look like an asshole. There's a lot of passionate disabled cosplayers who gev told they aren't in character due to their mobility aids.

before you choose to use a mobility aid you need to weigh the pros and cons of using one. there are drawbacks to every single mobility aid. there is no such thing as a harmless mobility aid. mobility aids are not the right choice for everyone and it's important that people emphasize that when suggesting that people try them. mobility aids can permanently damage your joints and it's important that people emphasize that when suggesting them.

mobility aids need to be an informed decision.

so many people have permanent damage to their bodies that they regret because people online told them to try a mobility aid and that there were no downsides. there are downsides.

a mobility aid is only the right choice when the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. it takes information for someone to know whether they would benefit enough from a mobility aid to make it worth it. when you tell someone that there are no problems with mobility aids, that doctors are all lying about the damage they do, you deny people information. doctors can be wrong and can deny people mobility aids incorrectly but there's truth in the fact that they damage joints, change gaits, and cause muscle atrophy among other problems.

and on that note doctor/PT/OT guidance is important when it's available. using mobility aids that have been sized incorrectly, even for a short time, can cause enough damage that mobility aids are no longer an option for that person. using mobility aids incorrectly, even for a short time, can cause enough damage that mobility aids are no longer an option for that person. failing to tell people that they need to learn how to use and size their mobility aid correctly (preferably with a doctor/PT/OT's help) causes real harm to people.

give people information when you suggest mobility aids to them. people listen to your suggestions without researching and it causes harm.
