Marilyn wasn't an only child she had an half sister, Berniece Miracle Baker. They shared the same mother as she recalled from her memoir "My sister Marilyn":' We share the same mother. We grew up feeling abandoned and, though both of us were told we were pretty and talented, we still needed courage and strength. We got that from each other." The two met in person in 1944 at the time Norma Jeane, travelled to Detroit to Berniece. Two years later, Berniece visited her half-sister, now a successful model and aspiring actress under her new name of Marilyn Monroe, in Los Angeles. They kept in touch throughout their lives mostly with letters and rarely in person due to Marilyn busy schedule and life in Hollywood. Here some extracts from Berniece personal letters written to her (cc: Julien's Auction) : 1) July 1946 "Your picture was in / the paper...I'm so / proud of you" 2) October 8, 1954;Dear Marilyn, /The news about you and Joe came as a shock and we were very sorry/ to hear it. I know you are lonely –/do try and come visit us and it may/ help you over the cloud. We love you loads and hope to/see you soon. Your sister, /Berniece.” 3) April 28, 1960. ""My! How I would love to hear from you and all about what you are doing. I see where Arthur has written a movie, The Misfits. When will the filming start? Hope it's a big success." They then met one last time in New York after the gallbladder surgery in 1961. When she passed away, Berniece was the first one to be informed about it by ex husband di Maggio .Marilyn left $10,000 to her half sister in her final will.  In 1967 Bernice took over the care of their mother Gladys Baker, who went to live with her Bernice wrote a splendid yet powerful memoir on her sister Norma Jeane, describing her as:"...a very hard working person.  She was very beautiful.. sweet and wonderful to everybody.  She loved people, she loved animals and she was very serious about her work.” #marilynettes #marilynmonroefan #marilynmonroe #yourmarilynrares https://www.instagram.com/p/CYuWvtqsYWk/?utm_medium=tumblr

When Marilyn was asked about her relationship with Joe di Maggio back in #1960 for "Marie Claire" magazine she simply stated "I understood some things about him and he understood some things about me and we based our marriage". She married baseball player di Maggio on this day, January 14th #1954 in San Francisco with a brief ceremony. "I met him the year he retired and I saw him for about one year two years and we married in San Francisco. Our marriage wasn't a happy one and it ended in 9 months, unfortunately". She also described him as a man of "sensitive nature" and quickly explain how athletes are perceived as "bad guys" but in reality they're not (at least not all of them). They're marriage only lasted 9 months but none of the two had ever offended or answered intrusive questions on the other one. They both respected each other's and remained friends. Marilyn will remember both of her ex husbands, or i better say the two public ones, Arhurt and Joe during an interview for "Redbook" magazine in August 1962 : “I fell in love with two of the nicest men I met at the time! And then I was lucky enough to get married twice. Yesterday in July 1st #1956 Marilyn lived a fairy tale, she married Arthur Miller and wrote on the back of a wedding photograph ' Hope , Hope,  Hope". She truly had faith in what happened to be her third marriage, faith in love, humanity and in Arthur. Her dress was designed by John Moore and Norman Norell. She was late even on her wedding day, when Milton asked her if she was ready to get married she nervously replied with " I think I don't want to marry." He left the room and was about to tell everyone but she called him: " No, Milton! We have invited all these people, we can't do that, we can't let down them! " The wedding was celebrate with a Jewish ceremony, so from now on Marilyn was Jewish. It lasted 10 minutes and as tradition wants Miller crushes his glass under his feet, in remembrance of the destruction of Jerusalem, and the crowd cried " Mazel Tov! ", Marilyn and Arthur were officially married. Unseen photos of Marilyn photographed by Andrè de Dienes in Tobey Beach #1949. I have scanned them from my collection. It was the first time Marilyn got to New York as she was currently on tour to promote "Love, Happy", she had the idea to meet Andrè while being there and asked him to take photos of her, she was excited because her career was finally take off. The photos were taken in the early morning of a Summer day between 6 and 7 a.m, she danced in front of his cat and got hurt by the underwire of her bath suit but she kept moving like nothing happened. #marilynettes #marilynmonroefan #Marilynmonroe #yourmarilynrares #40s https://www.instagram.com/p/CQjiC0InzUe/?utm_medium=tumblr

Marilyn and Arthur on their way to attend Terence Rattigan's party in England #1956.
They flew all the way from U.S to Europe because she was filming "The Prince and The Showgirl" along with Lawrence Olivier and didn't want to be there alone.

Marilyn photographed by Bert Stern in #1962
"She looks on the screen like you can reach out and touch her, she's kind of a real image outside of a simple photograph. But there is something else about her. There was something special about her.She had a natural instinct to utter comic lines and give them something extra, something special. She was never vulgar in a role that might otherwise have been, you have always enjoyed seeing her on screen. "
From Billy Wilder's words about Marilyn's attractiveness to her biographer, Donald Spoto

Marilyn attending Ray Anthony's party on August 3rd #1952
"I spent a lot of time with Monroe and she was very fragile. Marilyn was sweet and charming, but in a way shy. The camera loved her, but I think she sometimes felt uncomfortable with celebrities." By Jean Bray, who was hired as a publicist for The Prince and the Showgirl
