Marilyn wasn't an only child she had an half sister, Berniece Miracle Baker. They shared the same mother as she recalled from her memoir "My sister Marilyn":' We share the same mother. We grew up feeling abandoned and, though both of us were told we were pretty and talented, we still needed courage and strength. We got that from each other." The two met in person in 1944 at the time Norma Jeane, travelled to Detroit to Berniece. Two years later, Berniece visited her half-sister, now a successful model and aspiring actress under her new name of Marilyn Monroe, in Los Angeles. They kept in touch throughout their lives mostly with letters and rarely in person due to Marilyn busy schedule and life in Hollywood. Here some extracts from Berniece personal letters written to her (cc: Julien's Auction) : 1) July 1946 "Your picture was in / the paper...I'm so / proud of you" 2) October 8, 1954;Dear Marilyn, /The news about you and Joe came as a shock and we were very sorry/ to hear it. I know you are lonely –/do try and come visit us and it may/ help you over the cloud. We love you loads and hope to/see you soon. Your sister, /Berniece.” 3) April 28, 1960. ""My! How I would love to hear from you and all about what you are doing. I see where Arthur has written a movie, The Misfits. When will the filming start? Hope it's a big success." They then met one last time in New York after the gallbladder surgery in 1961. When she passed away, Berniece was the first one to be informed about it by ex husband di Maggio .Marilyn left $10,000 to her half sister in her final will.  In 1967 Bernice took over the care of their mother Gladys Baker, who went to live with her Bernice wrote a splendid yet powerful memoir on her sister Norma Jeane, describing her as:"...a very hard working person.  She was very beautiful.. sweet and wonderful to everybody.  She loved people, she loved animals and she was very serious about her work.” #marilynettes #marilynmonroefan #marilynmonroe #yourmarilynrares https://www.instagram.com/p/CYuWvtqsYWk/?utm_medium=tumblr

When Marilyn was asked about her relationship with Joe di Maggio back in #1960 for "Marie Claire" magazine she simply stated "I understood some things about him and he understood some things about me and we based our marriage". She married baseball player di Maggio on this day, January 14th #1954 in San Francisco with a brief ceremony. "I met him the year he retired and I saw him for about one year two years and we married in San Francisco. Our marriage wasn't a happy one and it ended in 9 months, unfortunately". She also described him as a man of "sensitive nature" and quickly explain how athletes are perceived as "bad guys" but in reality they're not (at least not all of them). They're marriage only lasted 9 months but none of the two had ever offended or answered intrusive questions on the other one. They both respected each other's and remained friends. Marilyn will remember both of her ex husbands, or i better say the two public ones, Arhurt and Joe during an interview for "Redbook" magazine in August 1962 : “I fell in love with two of the nicest men I met at the time! And then I was lucky enough to get married twice. Marilyn and Arthur on their way to attend Terence Rattigan's party in England #1956.
They flew all the way from U.S to Europe because she was filming "The Prince and The Showgirl" along with Lawrence Olivier and didn't want to be there alone.

Marilyn photographed by Bert Stern in #1962
"She looks on the screen like you can reach out and touch her, she's kind of a real image outside of a simple photograph. But there is something else about her. There was something special about her.She had a natural instinct to utter comic lines and give them something extra, something special. She was never vulgar in a role that might otherwise have been, you have always enjoyed seeing her on screen. "
From Billy Wilder's words about Marilyn's attractiveness to her biographer, Donald Spoto

"I spent a lot of time with Monroe and she was very fragile. Marilyn was sweet and charming, but in a way shy. The camera loved her, but I think she sometimes felt uncomfortable with celebrities." By Jean Bray, who was hired as a publicist for The Prince and the Showgirl

Lauren Bacall left this world on this day, 7 years ago in #2014. She starred in "How to Marry a Millionaire" along with Marilyn and Betty Grable in #1953. An iconic, classic and funny movie. Lauren has often talked about Marilyn throughout her life as Jane Russell did and she was always respectful of her as a human being with insecurities and break downs. She mentioned Marilyn in her autobiographical book "By Myself and Then Some" and talked about their friendship :"She was scared, anxious, trusted only Natasha Lytess and was always late.(then she complains about her acting coach when she required to do about fifteen takes per scene) ....There was something sad about her(a sort of appeal) a luck of trust in other's and uneasiness." During an interview in the 80s she mentioned Marilyn again:" She was a very kind of sweet, kind of faraway and self involved but she had no meanness she had not strident in any way she just always seemd a little lost to me. Personally she was really sweet, we did get along well....The minute that camera turned on she became this incredible creature she was" "She wanted me to tell her about my children, about my home; she asked me if I was happy. Looking a little sad, she seemed to envy this aspect of my life a lot, and hoped it would happen to her one day . Marilyn photographed on set of "Niagara" in #1952. She looks so concentrate and her expression is so sweet. In spite of what has been said about her, Marilyn was an extremely hardworking actress. She loved to keep herself busy and kept renewing her goals. She wanted to become a good actress as remarked multiple times during interviews and did actually worked on herself, improving her acting skills and her career in general. Also back to the photo, Niagara was the first and only Marilyn noir movie. #marilynettes #marilynmonroefan #marilynmonroe #yoursmarilynrares https://www.instagram.com/p/CSciWkWMouY/?utm_medium=tumblr

Marilyn photographed by Milton H.Greene at a ranch in the U.S in #1955. In these photos she's not wearing any make up and still looks beautiful, so fresh, so young. She loved horses since she was a little girl, these photos captured another side of Marilyn. A humble girl going on a trip to a ranch somewhere in the U.S with her friend and his wife. Doing simple things because after all she was a simple person, she's never loved luxury. #marilynettes #marilynmonroefan #marilynmonroe #yoursmarilynrares https://www.instagram.com/p/CSY6OgNMKlX/?utm_medium=tumblr

Marilyn was buried on August 8, #1962 in Westwood Memorial  Cemetery in Los Angeles. At the end of the ceremony it was played a personal favorite tune of hers : " Over the Rainbow " from "The Wizard of Oz" by the timeless Judy Garland. The private ceremony started  at 1 am where no Hollywood celebrities - Frank Sinatra, the Lawford, and even Dean Martin, weren't invited , despite their protests . Her make up was a creation of Whitney Snyder, her makeup artist and friend of a lifetime and she wore the green Pucci dress she loved . Because of the damage created by the autopsy,  the hairdresser of Marilyn , Agnes Flanagan, fixed her a wig , replicating the hairstyle of the star during her last movie  " Something's Got to Give" I love to remember Marilyn as a strong, independent and talented woman who did everything she can to reach her dreams, to reach people's hearts and to reach the stars. She won't have to worry now about being loved because she's been an inspiration for so many generations since the 50s and she will always be in our hearts♡ Love you Marilyn, rest in peace #marilynettes #marilynmonroe #yoursmarilynrares #1962 #marilynmonroefan https://www.instagram.com/p/CSUllQVjsEo/?utm_medium=tumblr

Why is Marilyn so loved? Why after 59 years still young people choose her as an inspiration? Because Marilyn is everything we aspire to be and it's everything we are made of. She was terribly insecure when it comes to act in front of a camera and yet she loved her job. She couldn't have children due to endometriosis but still tried harder after one of the many miscarriages. She wasn't love as she wanted to be but was grateful to those who married her and tried to make her dream come true. She couldn't find peace, she couldn't get over her past yet she still visited her mother Gladys and give her the love she deserved to receive as a daughter. She hate being an orphan yet in 1952 she stopped by her old orphanage and meet every child who reminded of her childhood . She hated fame yet fame brought her fans, supporters. She hated mobs. We as human beings, see ourselves in Marilyn. Besides what she created, she's never truly changed. She's always been that little scared girl who then turned out to be a warrior and gained confidence in her very last year. She proved the whole world wrong. She didn't want to play games, she just wanted to be respected as a human being. Thank god we are giving her justice by being loyal to her and respecting her choices and simply HER. We are responsible to make sure that her photos won't be changed and altered anymore. We are responsible that our future generations will also get to know the woman behind Monroe. We are responsible in keeping her alive in the most pure and loyal way. #marilynettes #marilynmonroefan #marilynmonroe #yoursmarilynrares #marilynmonroe59th https://www.instagram.com/p/CSM5HETDS3e/?utm_medium=tumblr
