#in case it wasn’t clear my point here is that its really annoying to find an intriguing piece of horror media and see that all anyone really #wants to talk about is how good it is because it doesn’t use jumpscares or other such ‘cheap tricks’ to frighten/unnerve you #is it true that some horror movies/franchises overuse jumpscares(& such) to the point where they lower the value of the film? #yes. especially when mainstream corporations try to capitalize off horror. #are there jumpscares that add to the film and fit the tone of the movie? yes. especially in horror comedies (which i’ve noticed tend to get #taken less seriously than films with little to no comedic elements. but that’s not the point right now) #so to summarize #a horror medias usage of jumpscares is not a black-and-white indicator or the films worth because not all jumpscares are created equal and #pointing out that a piece of horror media you like doesn’t use jumpscares(and using that to show how ‘good’ it is) doesn’t make you sound #smart- you sound like a snob and i no longer want to converse with you #marble shoot #horror #horror movies
