All these butthurt fans need to stop blaming Gotham and start asking why their club wasn't willing or able to offer what Gotham was able to offer. Cause it isn't just about money, not when every team got the same cap increase.
Gotham is clearly offering tangible benefits beyond salary that other clubs aren't. Good enough to tempt players to move across the country for. And that should be something to celebrate, not demonize.
According to an interview with the literal Gotham GM, Yael Averbuch, when she asked any of the free agents Gotham has talked to what their biggest decider in choosing a team was NONE of them said “salary” first.

About ashlyn, gotham fc and her career overall: Ashlyn doesn't have that strong ties with the club, but Ali has. They went to NYC due their connection with Yael Averbuch, Gotham's General Manager, and their former teammate in WNY Flash and Washington Spirit. Rumors at the time it was that Ashlyn indeed wanted to stay in Orlando Pride (their previous team) since her family is still all Florida based, but Ron DeSanctis' Don Say Gay Bill, that was threaning to take their rights, including Sloane's adoption, forced them to move. Ali's family is based on Maryland/Virginia, so playing in NY was closer than going back to Washington Spirit, that at the time was on verge of being closed thanks to their abusive staff and stories about lack of money. But Ashlyn never really fit in with the rest of the team as Ali did or when she played in Orlando Pride (she was the captain of the team). And since Ashlyn's grandma died, about three years ago or so, she seens really lost, cause her grandma and grandpa were the ones who raised her. Also there was a story that they were both planning on retiring together at the end of 2022 but the plan changed due Ashlyn's several injuries. I guess she might ressent that too. Going to LA seems to be the move, though, cause most of her still soccer friends are mostly all there.
Besides, I dont think Sophia would move to NYC, it pretty much has the same weather issues she had in Chicago, and she is really connected to LA, not only cause of work.
Thanks for the whole background story. I had no clue.
I really really don’t see Sophia moving full time. I’m sure she’s cool with travelling. She has friends around NY and everything but she won’t give up her LA life after being away for so long. Whatever the era she may be in, I really think Los Angeles is her forever home. They’ll have to figure it out I guess and since they’ve apparently talked about their future together, it seems like they have an idea. It will all depend of the custody agreement Ali and Ashlyn come up with too.

Whether you want to improve your first touch, perfect your shooting technique, or enhance your tactical understanding, you’ll resources that cater to your specific goals. Beyond skills, they empower players with confidence, offering strategies for overcoming mental hurdles and boosting self-esteem. The benefits extend to life off the field, as the lessons learned in soccer can be applied to various aspects of one’s journey. Much like the great soccer legends, who attribute their success to countless hours of solitary play, individual training is the cornerstone of greatness. Training on your own cultivates an intimate bond with the ball and the game itself, nurturing a unique connection that sets you apart from the crowd. Just as Techne Futbol’s founder, Yael Averbuch, found solace and motivation in the company of friends and family during her training sessions, these profiles foster a sense of community. Soccer training social media profiles act as guiding stars on this journey, imparting wisdom, knowledge and motivation. They unite players and coaches in their pursuit of excellence, enhancing the collective soccer experience. The future of soccer is one where every enthusiast, regardless of age or skill level, has access to the tools and knowledge needed to reach their full potential, these profiles are not just resources, they are empowering agents of change, enriching the soccer world and its participants, one kick, one goal, and one moment of personal growth at a time.

[ID: a tweet thread from @jennatonelli which reads:
Signing News! NJ/NY @GothamFC of the #NWSL has signed 20-year-old Brazilian defender Bruninha through the 2023 season, pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). #YERRRR
Bruninha joins the club from Santos FC of the Brazilian first division league Brasileirão Feminino Neoenergia, who transferred her rights to @GothamFC in exchange for an agreed-upon transfer fee.
With Santos FC, Bruninha won the 2021 “Bola de Prata” (Silver Ball) as the “revelation of the tournament.” She has already made several appearances for the senior Brazilian Women’s National Team and is currently captaining her country at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
“Bruninha has a terrific understanding of the game at such a young age,” said GM Yael Averbuch West. “She’s already such a polished player and playing in the NWSL will only help make her better. The sky is the limit for her, and I’m so excited to watch her flourish at Gotham FC.”

Player ratings as Miazga & Klimala score in stalemate

Player ratings as Miazga & Klimala score in stalemate
The New York Red Bulls battled from a goal down to draw 1-1 at home to FC Cincinnati on Saturday.
Former RBNY center-back Matt Miazga opened his FC Cincinnati account after just 13 minutes, heading home Alvaro Barreal’s free-kick to give the visitors the lead against the run of play.
Yael Averbuch West hosted none other than Christian Fuchs for the latest episode of Football Americana. The Charlotte FC captain provided insight into the creation of Major League Soccer’s newest expansion team, and bringing European culture into the American side.
However, RBNY quickly re-established their dominance and, just 10 minutes later, they were level with Patryk Klimala scoring a penalty won by Andreas Reyes, who was brought down by Junior Moreno.
Both sides pushed hard for another breakthrough but Roman Celentano was in-form behind a solid Cincinnati defense, while the Red Bulls’ center-backs did a great job on in-form strikers Brenner and Brandon Vazquez.
The Red Bulls remain in a strong position, sitting fourth in the Eastern Conference with a place in the MLS Cup Playoffs now looking all but certain. FC Cincinnati, meanwhile, remain in the thick of the race for the final few post-season spots and will be happy with a road point, despite giving up a lead.
Here are the full player ratings from the clash at Red Bull Arena:
After video review led to a #RBNY penalty, Patryk Klimala makes no mistake.

GK: Carlos Coronel – 5/10 – Couldn’t stop Miazga’s header. Was rarely called into action otherwise.
RB: Kyle Duncan – 6/10 – Got into some great positions but missed his mark time and again when crossing.
CB: Sean Nealis – 7/10 – Made a couple of vital defensive interventions to keep Cincy at arm’s length.
CB: Andres Reyes – 8/10 – Made a huge one-on-one challenge to stop a Brandon Vazquez breakaway and won the penalty for Klimala to equalize.
LB: John Tolkin – 9/10 – A tackling machine, and yet still had time to create a few chances at the other end.
CM: Daniel Edelman – 8/10 – Another excellent performance from the teenager, who was composed on the ball and robust without it. The only downside was the chance he blazed over the bar in the second half.
CM: Dru Yearwood – 7/10 – Very clean on the ball and worked hard for the team.
RW: Cameron Harper – 7/10 – Lively and dangerous, just missing a bit of composure with the final ball.
CAM: Cristian Cassares Jr – 7/10 – Continues to look comfortable as a No.10, getting into some great shooting positions and pressing effectively.
LW: Caden Clark – 3/10 – Touched the ball just 24 times and only completed six of his 12 attempted passes. A passenger.
ST: Patryk Klimala – 8/10 – Scored his first MLS goals since May 18 from the spot and battled hard against FC Cincinnati’s giant center-backs all evening.
SUB: Lewis Morgan (58′, for Clark) – 5/10 – Rested following a livewire performance against Atlanta United. A couple of bright moments but unable to have an impact from the bench.
SUB: Aaron Long (58′, for Reyes) – 7/10 – Continued where Reyes left off. Solid.
SUB: Luquinhas (58′, for Harper) – 7/10 – Upped the tempo and looked to get RBNY on the front foot.
SUB: Steven Serrwadda (75′, for Yearwood) – 6/10 – No fireworks, but looked composed on the ball.
SUB: Tom Barlow (83′, for Klimala) – N/A – Didn’t get into the game.
Back at Red Bull Arena? It had to be Matt Miazga.

— Major League Soccer (@MLS) August 20, 2022
GK: Roman Celentano – 6/10 – Only conceded via a penalty. Made a couple of decent saves.
CB: Nick Hagglund – 7/10 – Totally dominant in the air and kept things as simple and effective as he always does.
CB: Geoff Cameron – 8/10 – Nothing got past Cameron here. Guided the Cincinnati backline excellently.
CB: Matt Miazga – 8/10 – Scored his first FC Cincinnati goal against his old club to open the evening. Largely dominant defensively both in the air and on the floor.
RWB: Alvas Powell – 6/10 – Was solid defensively but didn’t offer much going forward.
CM: Obinna Nwobodo – 7/10 – Saw a lot of the ball, always looked to push Cincinnati forward.
CM: Junior Moreno – 5/10 – Worked hard and broke up play, but was unfortunate to give away a penalty.
LWB: Alvaro Barreal – 8/10 – Provided a perfect cross for Miazga’s goal. Put in a strong defensive performance.
CAM: Luciano Acosta – 6/10 – Not Lucho’s most productive night, but still showed flashes of brilliance.
ST: Brenner – 5/10 – Only managed one shot. Well marshaled by the RBNY defense.
ST: Brandon Vazquez – 3/10 – After four straight MLS games with a goal, Vazquez was surprisingly poor. Only completed five passes all night and failed to attempt a shot.
SUB: Ian Murphy (62′, for Miazga) – 7/10 – Filled in well for Miazga from the bench.
SUB: Raymon Gaddis (77′, for Powell) – 5/10 – Barely touched the ball.
SUB: Yuya Kubo (78′, for Moreno) – 6/10 – Looked bright and positive despite limited minutes.
SUB: John Nelson (78′, for Barreal) – 5/10 – Made a couple of clearances but not much else.
SUB: Arquimides Ordonez (90′, for Vazquez) – N/A – No time to get into the game.
