AH i still have asks for this meme YES i’d love to talk about jake! i explained about his source (which is a pretty interesting story on its own) here already, but this is a good excuse to dig into jake specifically… hm. how to explain him. he has a lot going on. on the surface he’s a sweet, amicable guy who runs a general store/trading post on a reservation. pawns jewelry that locals make, things like that. maybe he’s a little mysterious, or has a reputation for being slightly kooky or thinking he’s psychic. but he does magic tricks for the kids, cracks jokes, practically gives stuff away to people who need it, knows everybody cuz he’s been there for like ten years. and he genuinely is a good honest business owner and a sweet guy.

but then he’s also like. aha. a witch. cuz before he opened the trading post he was a travelling carnie magician and escape artist (born yacov wechsler, performed as the amazing jacobo) which he doesn’t really let anyone know about. and he’s a bit magic-curious so he’s gotten into the local witchcraft scene through the handful of his navajo clients who practice that sort of thing. with personal permission, i like to think, though the movie leaves it ambiguous.

and when his son was killed in jail over a drug bust (actually he was framed for snitching) jake started on this revenge spree using what he’d learned as well as his own cleverness. killed some folk. gave jim chee, local detective, a serious runaround. but he was doing it to avenge his son, or at least, that was the goal.

but he’s very much a man of two minds. a side of him is compassionate, understanding, humble, forgiving, loves life, appreciates every moment. and the other is angry, passionate, driven by feelings, righteous, confident, punitive to the point of sadism. he knows this, he’s very self aware. he uses it, even.

so basically, he’s a general store owner, former carnie, magician, escape artist, now witch. and he’s really sweet except for the bloody vengeance. and altogether, he’s just cool to me. being a male witch, automatically gnc af. hope this helps ♥️
