I would just read the summaries of book 2 (watch only the two episodes featuring the first avatar) and check out book 3. Only disappointment in book 3 is Katara not appearing, otherwise it's a good season in my opinion.

Apart from wan's episodes book 2 is pretty boring and reading summaries'd probably be enough. Book 3 is definetely worth watching though, there's a lot of korrasami interaction and some pretty interesting stuff with the air nomads

Those are good suggestions! Everything I've heard about Book 2 reflects that it was pretty much awful and boring, so...yeah. Hearing this from you all makes watching Book 3...more palatable...and I think I'm gonna do it...yeah. My investment in Asami/Korra and the Air Nomads is too strong. (And the Beifong sisters...!!!)

same problem the korrasami/korra+asami girls interaction seems AMAZING but i don't even have the energy to finish season ONE...

From what I remember of Book 1 it got really awful really fast with the ~love triangle and the way it screwed up the pacing, but the finale is decent....save the very end. But if you do manage to get through it and are considering which way to go from there, refer above! It's really good advice!
