More crossover Contessa! This time as the Assassin in White.

Cauldron take on the role of Taravangian's Diagram society in this AU, a shady organisation following a ruthless, desperate plan for the "greater good" (with a little human experimentation along the way). Within the organisations, though, it's not a 1:1 role swap. Contessa has Taravangian's blessing/curse, and created the Diagram; however, she isn't the ruler of Kharbranth. This gives her the time to, instead of (or perhaps in addition to...?) recruiting the original Assassin in White, take up the mantle herself on days of high intelligence. Anything to follow the Diagram...

Is this just an excuse to draw Worm characters with swords? Maybe.

(Also, please excuse how inaccurately I drew her and Nightblood. I only checked the wiki's after 2 hours of lineart, and at that point I wasn't going back 🙈)

The Great Grand Library's 2023 Record

I decided to look back upon all the fics I read in 2023 and compiled them into a list.

Format: Score/10: Title [Author] [Fandom] [Misc].

The scores are a snappy enumeration of my personal rating system. 2/10 means I read for some amount before putting it on hold and theoretically might someday give it another shot but eh, 4/10 means I'm much more likely to give it another shot, 6/10 means I read through all the chapters that was there at the time and enjoyed my time aplenty, 8/10 means I enjoyed it even more, and 10/10 means I enjoyed it so much they're a contender for being among my favorite fics of all time.

Only a small percentage of what are 2/10 are included in this list, so this list isn't bloated by fics that my feelings about are mostly summarised as "eh". Consider them a honorable mentions.

If it's not a fanfic but instead an original work, it will use [Original].

Sometimes I like to doodle a Worm/Stormlight Archives crossover AU. Contessa is, among other things, the wielder of Nightblood.

Disclaimer, I'm not an expert in either series' lore, but I do enjoy learning more of it - so if I get something wrong please lmk! Also would love to discuss character interpretations, and parallels. I'm not really trying to write anything though, it's just for fun, so I'm not looking for writing critiques.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about st(w)ormlight again... I never spilled the beans on the Heartbroken, did I? I was waiting to make art for it, but might as well do it in text first.

In this AU Ashertmarn, Heart of the Revel, can bond(?) with a human. The human's concepts of indulgence influence how Ashertmarn manifests, and they can manipulate his powers to some extent. Cue Nikos Vasil. Heartbreaker's influence turns Ashertmarn's focus to lust rather than gluttony, and the Heartbroken grow up blasted with Unmade influence rather than mind-magic.

Alec becomes a Lightweaver after running away, and eventually joins up with Aisha and Brian. Many of the other Heartbroken and "Heartbreaker's girls" seek power where they can, and end up tangling with other Unmade. Cherie bonds Yelig-Nar/Blightwind (the Unmade that whatshername, Aesudan, bonds in canon) and gets a bunch'a creepy crystal growths and all ten Surges. She might run off to join Odium afterwards, if he gives her the "give me your pain" pitch - at which point she becomes even more supernaturally emotionless than Alec. I like the idea of one of the "girls" making a Nightwatcher deal (with consequences), but I doubt they'd get the opportunity. Roman is obviously in tune with the Thrill, and... yeah, I haven't assigned other Unmade connections, but that's the general direction.

If Alec dies as per canon, Aisha rehabilitates and bonds his spren (apparently possible, though most spren don't like it), becoming both an Edgedancer and a Lightweaver. At this point she can replicate all her canon ninja skills. She kills Heartbreaker and traps (or kills? Can you kill an Unmade?) Ashertmarn - one of my favourite moments in this AU. Aisha never wants another child to be traumatised because of addiction, and she defeats the incarnation of addiction itself.

Undersiders' Radiant Orders (minimal-spoiler version)

I was gonna draw something for this, but Shardplate Is Hard, so without ado: my thoughts on the Undersiders as Knights Radiant!

Taylor: Stoneward - see this post.

Aisha: Edgedancer. "I will remember...". She IS one; all she needs is a spren.

Brian: I think it would be funny to make him a Skybreaker squire, then roleswap him and Aisha into Edgedancer (the novella). "My mentor/father figure/cult leader told me to hunt you and all Radiants down to prevent the Real Actual Apocalypse from Hell, and - you're being protected?? By another Radiant?? By MY SISTER???" is an unparalleled Situation. His stern + cautious demeanour fits the Skybreakers, and Nale potentially parallels both his dad and Coil. That said, I'm not sold on him becoming a full Skybreaker - open for discussion on alternative Orders.

You know who is 100% a Skybreaker, though? Victoria 'Cop' Dallon.

(Also open for discussion on the implications of Victoria and Brian as coworkers.)

Alec: Lightweaver. The boy lies to himself! And to everyone else (powers, past, heck - even his name). He's also artistically inclined (see: that one analysis post about him painting the Undersiders' symbols in their lair, which I, fool newbie that I was, did not save). I have a Plan for the Heartbroken + Imp, which I'll discuss in another post, but that's the order.

Rachel: Honestly? I could see her as a Windrunner, initially focused on protecting her dogs. Points:

 “The order believes in structures of command, team dynamics, and the importance of a strong squad.”

“They tend to attract those who seek to protect the defenseless, but also enjoy action and fighting for what they believe in.”

And Lisa: I am so, so stuck here. Windrunner (protecting Taylor)? Truthwatcher (uncovering truth and knowledge)? Elsecaller (tactics and logistics)? Would she even be a Radiant?

There was actually one (1) time that I put cosmere guys into worm, and it was trying to translate Shallan's powers to the worm system.

She triggered as a child from general Davar family friction (something must have given baby Shallan a cracked soul, and there's no way the Davars were ever totally healthy...) with the ability to form intangible illusions - would be classed as some combo of Shaker and Stranger/Changer. When her mother tried to kill her for her powers, she second triggered with the ability to make hard-light illusions (taking longer to form than her original illusions). Her first hard-light summon was a sword, and canon can play out from there.

I'm pretty pleased with it. An unsafe family environment that one reacts to by hiding/defusing tension, and which eventually causes DID, fits a Shaker-Stranger ability with Changer-esque applications, and the hard-light would give her a Master rating too (picture that WoR scene where she makes an army of clones, but solid...) which fits the new element of betrayal.

that is. that is an impressive writing choice. they gave her Hemalurgy too. if the power scales how I think it will scale she's gonna solo Eidolon by next Tuesday
