240819 // car!!!

So we had to cancel our plans to do the free international students tour around Houston city/lunch to settle the car. Got up about 8 ish to get ready and get to Hertz. Had the lady to help us this time, though it was an initial awkward encounter when we walked in and the first guy salesperson greeted us. Lol. Then the lady had to break the news to him that she was going to help us, not him. She was really nice about it and help us to decide which car we were going to get. They had a lot of Hyundai Accents, but it came down to deciding which exact one we wanted. 

So because we were on an international license, we were not allowed to drive the car down to the mechanic by ourselves. So the saleslady had to bring us down and we drove our rental down. She then got someone to pick up and back to Hertz. Izzy was there to help us. Super helpful guy I love him. While waiting for the mechanic, we went by the bank to get the cashier’s check. That took awhile because we had to wait for the saleslady to get back to us on how much to put on the check. Had a really lovely conversation with the bank teller and she is this super sweet Vietnamese lady. She told us where to go for asian supermarkets nearby and not to have to go all the way to Chinatown 30 mins away HAHA. Good call. 

We then got back to the mechanic and just nice it was done. Izzy told us there were some issues with the battery so we needed to get that checked out. Had to call the saleslady to bring the car back and this time, Daryl rode with the saleslady and I drove the rental car alone!!! On the highway!!! SCARY. 

Waited for the insurance to confirm. Then waited for the paperwork. And while doing the paperwork, they realised we needed an oil change as well. BY THE TIME IT WAS ALL OVER. IT WAS 4 PM. Thankfully Daryl packed lunch for us if not we would have been freaking starving. And Hertz is in the middle of nowhere too.. No food around it. 

Drove the car back and yay that was settled. OUR DAY WAS ALREADY SO LONG, but it was not yet over. Cause we were supposed to collect furniture! And I called the different people that we were supposed to collect furniture from, and with that confirmation, we quickly tried to book the van at 6pm to run the errands. 

We got a van and it was a really nice ride! Daryl really enjoyed driving it. Clean and he was happy that he didn’t need to be restricted to the 70km/h speed in Singapore with the vans. We went to Pearland to collect chairs and mattress from two separate people. The chairs turned out to be high chairs lol oops my bad, but they were like 4 for $5 so we took them anyway. And we can find some use for them. The mattress lady was super nice. She took the mattress from her RV, and even let us explore the RV. The mattress was too long for the bed in her RV and she had ordered one that was customised for it. And in the RV, those few inches (idg inches still btw) really make a difference. In those few moments of speaking to her, we got majorly bitten by mosquitoes. But hey it was the IKEA mattress that we were eyeing, and she sold it to us for half the price! And it has been barely used. 

We then went to Sujeeta’s place about 30 mins drive away to get the bed frame and some random stuff she left us. She just left it outside her garage lol. The bed frame was rather heavy. 

THEN we went to Pasadena to get tables. It was so cute it was this Mexican family (I think) and the dad only spoke Spanish. The son was the one mainly communicating with us and he told us that his dad made the tables himself. They were really good wood tables and they even gave us a discount for both. Then they loaded it onto the truck, onto our mattress. And we were like yikes I hope the dust doesn’t get on it. 

We then drove back to our apartments (finally), and otw back we passed by another house to get bedsheets. It was a fancy ass area and she sold us like 2 x 1000 thread bedsheet sets with pillow cases as well for $25. Good dealllll. 

Went back to the house, it was about .. 9.30 pm? And we started unloading all the stuff and giving it a brief clean. There were some spider eggs on the underside of the tables urgh, but thankfully none of the dirt got on the mattress. We then went to return the van because our car was left at the rental place. It was a very easy return on the app (quite a well designed app) and that was done about 11 pm. We then drove to HEB nearby to just get a bedbug spray and drove back to the apartments to just spray the mattress and the couches that we got, just to be safe. 

Got back at like midnight, showered and we all just knocked out.
