definitely would like to hear your take on this situation! if you feel like sharing ofc!! i feel like everyone shares the same discourse of disappointed but not surprised 😭

i'd love to share !!! i started typing this all out and realized i was not gonna be able to keep it nice and concise so i do rlly apologize this is long LOL

my first point is that just nothing has made my blood boil more than the people who, in defense of matty and in an attempt to ridicule hurt fans, say "this is what you get for idolizing someone," or "but he never claimed to be a good person -- you shouldn't have gotten attached." because while these may be true statements to a certain extent at times, they completely deflect from the actual issue, which is matty's actual behavior

i think a lot of my feelings on this circle back to my own experiences of being in fan spaces starting from like. age 12 all the way up to now. it is so genuinely difficult for young girls especially to enjoy anything without having it minimized or ridiculed simply because it attracts predominantly teen girls/young women. and so when a band like the 1975 shows up, it's wonderful because so many young people feel so welcome and accepted in that space. matty himself has reiterated many times in interviews that he has respect for the intelligent young women that make up the fanbase, and that you can't take your fans' intelligence for granted.

that's part of why it is so disheartening when time and time again he's so ok with openly making lame, weirdly misogynistic jokes at the expense of so many people who care so much about what he does. and it is true that maybe no one should be surprised, but it's so shocking that he has shown zero sign of maturation. he's nearly 34. there's no excuses for him atp.

my friend and i were talking about this, and it came up that matty is in a position of power where he will never have to take substantial action on his own claims of caring about women, or any sort of marginalized group for that matter. it's so deeply frustrating to see that he is clearly capable of compassion and understanding, yet he makes the active choice not to follow that, because he has the privilege of treating everything as a joke.

you can call it a bit, a joke layered in irony, as much as you want, but after awhile it begs the question: is it really a joke anymore? does this really not reflect who he is as a person? because i, personally, am done with people who hide behind the excuse of irony and satire to explain the shit they say. just because it's a joke doesn't mean it's fucking funny!!! like, at all!!!!

not to mention the fact that this band would NOT be where it is now if it weren't for the young women that put so much time and energy into showing the band support and love. and how fucking awful does it feel to have that returned with what i can only rlly describe as the kind of comments a 17 year old little white boy would make. feels awful

Occasionally, I have the desire to pop onto Tumblr and attempt to relight the candle within me that still loves this hellsite and longs to return, and apparently this is one of those times. If you could attend any concert (past, present; not even currently in the works, outside of the majesty of your imagination), what would it be?? But like,,,, top 5 concerts because I know you have too much love in your heart to ever possibly choose just one <3

Also, I’m still exploring ATEEZ but I think it vital you know that I was seriously considering just making hongjoong my bias today and sticking by it, and then I found out,,,,,, he’s the shortest member of ATEEZ,,,,,, it was a joke I love my short kings, but idk how much of a joke it truly IS, anymore. I can’t deny the facts that beyond Namjoon, all my biases are the short ones,,,,,,,

Oh, lol, I forgot to share at least some of my ideal concerts:

Bastille for All This Bad Blood and/or Doom Days

5SOS for Youngblood and/or CALM

BTS for literally anything ever (they could make music with those free sound effects you can use for video editing and I would eat it up 😤😤)

Coldplay for Viva La Vida or Death and All of His Friends

Dvicio for literally any album/era post 2016. (I just haven’t given Justo Ahora enough plays to really get into it the way I currently get down to Impulso, Qué Tienes Tú, and EL LABERINTO)

Special shout out to Hozier, Depeche Mode, The Rose, Backstreet Boys, Billy Joel, Panic! At The Disco, and ONEUS <3. They would also be a dream, but I gotta prioritize at some point, and I might as well mention the less attainable concerts first 😭 rip to my favorite eras of these bands and/or the fact that they’ll never tour by me (dvicio come closer than Mexico City challenge,,,,, it’s hard enough to convince me to cross state lines,,,,)

ma'am I am blessing you kissing you tenderly for sending me this, I have been pondering this these past few days and I'm honestly just getting salty that no artist wants to come to Canada, let alone my province rip. Without further ado, here are my Top 5 Concerts:

BTS (I would agree I would literally not care whatever era, for whatever setlist, but if I have to be 100% honest I'd kill to go to their Love Yourself tour, every fancam I've seen, every performance we've gotten filmed, I NEED!)

Taylor Swift - Eras Tour (there still might be a chance for me to attend. Please miss blondie release the international dates I will commit crime to get hands on tickets)

Agust D (can you believe Yoongi is going on a world tour and going to like 10 countries. Askjfs I get it with his enlistment and all and we're for sure getting concert clips but I WANT TO BE IN THE ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENS!!! Plus I'm 90% we're gonna get Tony Montana with Jimin and I would and will go insane when that happens)

Seventeen - Be The Sun Tour (I got legit post concert depression when this ended and I didn't even attend

Twenty One Pilots - The Bandito Tour (bruh I sooo should have caved and got tickets back in 2018. Every single time I listen to Trench - one of my favourite albums of all time - I constantly think of how amazing it would be to hear live. and then I die a little inside knowing I'll never get the chance)

I have never, and I mean NEVER, watched a show where the man loves his wife as much as Judd loves Grace. He sat in that car as the water rose around them willing to die with her, hand in hand, because that's the way he wanted to go. Because he is nothing and there is nothing without her. He broke up with her because he thought it was best for her — stupid yes, but done truly because he knows how phenomenal she is. He knew everything she could be and he wanted her to reach her fullest potential, regardless of the agony it caused him. He was ready to pack up his life after 2 MONTHS to be with her because he knew down to the marrow that she was it for him, and there wasn't ever going to be any other. He said it best when he said he'd walk through fire for her, has proved it EVERY SINGLE TIME she's in his sightline and you can just feel the devotion and adoration radiating from him and I will NEVER love a tv couple as much as I love them everyone else can go home

How can anyone be sad about Eddie and Ana dating when it is so narratively clear what her role in the story is? Regardless of any misogynistic implications, Ana's literal role is a stepping stone on Eddie's path to healing and recovery. like. that's not fanon conjecture, that's literally canon. She is designed to be temporary. I'm not saying buddie is going to be a thing; none of us can know until we Know and frankly, I don't think the writers know if buddie is going to be a thing either. But I will say that Eddie dating Ana is an incredibly important and pivotal peak in his character arc, and that this event marks the beginning of his future as a person truly healing from a devastating loss. He's admitted to not being over the death of his wife, probably not over the fact that she was ready and willing to divorce him like two hours before her death, but now he's willing to try and I'm so GLAD we get to track his healing and recovery fully instead of the writers just skipping through his healing like it's nothing. anyways I could rant about this forever but I'd literally die for him and you guys need to stop stressing out over nothing 😭

All I wanted in this episode was to see Eddie standing in support of Buck against his parents and he DID. No, he wasn't there for the dinners or anything like that, but he told Buck point blank that he had nothing to apologise for.

OK seriously think about that for a moment. When is the last time ANYONE has told Evan Buckley that he has nothing to apologise for? Eddie did something for Buck that not many people do for him: he validated his feelings. He told him it was okay to be pissed, he told him he had a right to be angry and hurt, even though his delivery wasn't the greatest. And not only is this significant development on Eddie's part (actually engaging in emotionally demanding conversation? the same man who literally ran off to war instead of dealing with whatever was going on at home?? okay), this episode also posited Eddie as exactly the kind of person Buck needs. like, obviously I'm a shipper so I'm gonna look at things with shipper glasses, but even taking those off for a minute: Eddie stood in Buck's corner when no one else who mattered (even Maddie, though I'm not mad at her) did. That's a good friend. That's a good partner. like??? ugh we were fed so good in this episode y'all, eat up
