Nora Dari will play the lead in the new web series ‘Panna’
Nora Dari (19) from Genk has secured a lead role again, this time in the new web series ‘Panna’. “Of all the things I’ve done, is this the thing I’m most enthused about”.
Tumblr media
She was on the set of ‘Patser’, we saw her in the Scandinavian series ‘Bullets’ and the arthouse movie ‘Ghost Tropic’ ánd she plays the lead in wtFOCK, the GoPlay web series that launched its new season this week. Now, Nora Dari from Genk, will add another accomplishment to her list: she’ll play the lead in ‘Panna’, a web series that’ll be released in the fall. “At first I was just mildly interested,” Nora tells us, “Because I thought: ‘is it a good idea to portray yet another a coming-of-age story?’ But when I read the script, I almost fell over: it’s so good. I absolutely wanted to be part of that.”
What’s so good about it? “Panna revolves around Afi, Tina, Zizou and Mary, four young football players who dream of a better life. They navigate their lives through a lot of hardships and search for a place amidst the male dominated world of street football. What I like about it, is that it doesn’t focus on the roots of those girls. It’s just about four girls, period. Okay, some of them have an immigration background, but that’s the reality in Borgerhout, where the show takes place. So the image that ‘Panna’ shows, is very realistic.
But the parents of your character are very conservative and Mary tries to meet their expectations. So you will play, just like the arthouse movie ‘Ghost Tropic’, another moroccan girl. “I simply can’t ignore that, it is what it is in Belgium. That’s why I keep my eye on international projects. In the Netherlands they’re already a bit more evolved in that aspect: there, it doesn’t matter if you’re an actress with different roots. But again, it doesn’t bother me in ‘Panna’, because the show is so raw and realistic. Of all the things I’ve done, this production is the one I’m most enthused about.”
Do you see a lot of similarities between you and Mary? “I used to play football and just like Mary, I’m a romantic dreamer. But luckily, my parents don’t think it’s a problem, unlike Mary’s parents. My mother always tells me: ‘Enjoy life for two’. If I’m at a party and someone tells me it’s time to go home, I’ll always answer: ‘We’re staying’ *laughs*. So I’ll always follow my mom’s good advice. What about your future plans? Two years ago, you told our newspaper that you were ready for the world. “That’s still the plan. *laughs*. In the meantime, I’ve graduated high school. I’m studying 'Marketing and Communications’ at PXL in Hasselt, but the will for acting won’t leave me alone. So I’m planning on attending the acting school in Maastricht or Amsterdam. At least, if I succeed in admission, but that’s for 2022.”
Did you receive any international offers? *laughs* Well... Yes, but I can’t tell anything about that. Although, I’ll admit that there is one offer I’m really excited about. If it goes according to plan, that’ll be a dream come through.
Maybe you’ll the Angelina Jolie of Winterslag even quicker than expected? *laughs* I really, really hope so. Source: Het Belang Van Limburg

This is an article from the summer, explaining that Nora Dari (Yasmina, Wtfock) is an interviewer/reporter for a program called “Generation Strong,” which was is run by Qmusic. In the article, Nora talks about being bullied when she was in school and her acting career.
The link is in Flemish, but there is a (Google Translate, lol) English version of the article  in the read below (so please excuse any mistakes!)
In the context of Red Nose Day, Qmusic is launching the 'Generation Stronger' program. There is a striking role for Genk actress Nora Dari (18), a well-known name among the young people.
'Generation Stronger' runs every working day from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. until 15 November, in which Jolien Roets is joined by Red Nose ambassadors such as Koen Wauters and Jonas Van Geel. The program is part of a larger campaign of Red Nose Day: "Together for #generationstronger." The campaign shows that young people together are able to tackle problems such as fear of failure, perfectionism, or bodyshaming .
'Generation Stronger' sends Red Nose Day reporter Nora Dari (18) to schools and campaigners every day to talk to people involved in the campaign. The Genkse is an emerging acting talent, and has collaborated on, among other things, the film 'Patser'. "I am studying business management at PXL in Hasselt, so I still have a perfect feeling for teenagers at school," she says. "I hope that after the broadcasts the listeners understand that it is okay if you sometimes feel bad, but that you should also seek help if things get out of hand."
Bullied yourself
Dari used to experience bullying herself. “Primarily in primary education. I was a girl who knew early on that she wanted to realize many things in life. Apparently that wasn't so appreciated in Winterslag, where I grew up. Classmates thought that I accepted."
The harassment has sometimes gone too far. “Ten-year-olds can come in very hurtfully, with all the consequences that entails. Anyway, an incident left me with a scar on my nose.” Nora also struggled later in life. “During secondary school, I mainly wondered who I was. A Moroccan Belgian or a Belgian Moroccan?"
"People don't understand that I was bullied in the past, because at first sight they don't see anything that could bully me," says Nora. “But like me there are many others. There doesn't have to be anything wrong with you to become a victim of bullying.” Dari was silent too. “Even at home I didn't open my mouth. But people should be able to ventilate something like that. It is not okay to keep walking around with that and to bear that on your own. My parents have found out about it. There was a bullying survey in my class, and it showed that 18 out of 20 students knew I was being bullied. My parents heard that through the parent contact. I was very embarrassed.”
Future as an actress
'Generation Stronger' is not the debut of Nora in the media. She played in Bas Devos' 'Ghost Tropic' film - screened at the Cannes film festival - and is a presenter at the 'WAJOW' urban talk show for young people. “Acting will continue to be the main focus in the future. New projects are in the pipeline, but I can't say anything about that.”
She knew at an early age that she wanted to act. “But that was not immediately supported by the home front. My parents wanted me to concentrate on school. Which of course I understand. But when that dream was still there later in life and I was allowed to participate in 'Patser' by Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah, I got their full support. I did successful casting for a Finnish series and that's how the ball started rolling. When I walk down the street in Genk or Hasselt, people already recognize me regularly.”
Conducting interviews for 'Generation Stronger' is new to her. “But if I can help others with that, I definitely want to do that. The last few days I have already visited schools and talked to people. It is a lot of work, but especially educational."

PROGRAMMA

Genk fan here! Some info about our club via /r/LiverpoolFC
Genk fan here! Some info about our club
Hi people, a Genk fan here. I thought it would be nice to give some insight into our club and how we look towards the match.
Let me start by saying we're all very excited to see LFC play in our stadium. For many of our fans this was a dream draw.
So, club history. KRC Genk was founded in 1988 after a merger between KFC Winterslag and Thor Waterschei. Those 2 teams ceased to exist after the coal mines in Genk closed down. The goal at that moment was to create a big club in Limburg (our province). And it worked, after a period in 2nd division we promoted to 1st division and won our first league title in 1999. After that we managed to win 3 more titles. We also have 4 Belgian cup wins and 2 national supercups.
As expected from a Belgian club, we're not really a force in European competitions. This CL campaign is our 3rd ever and we haven't won a single CL game in our history. Our best European performance was the Europa League in 2017. We reached the quarter finals but got eliminated by Celta De Vigo.
Our stadium is gonna be quite small for your standards. We have a capacity of around 25 000. The stadium is called Luminus Arena (Luminus is an energy supplier). Most fans call our stadium the 'phoenix stadium', which it was called before sponsors wanted their name on it. The phoenix stands for our rise from the ashes of the mines.
Notable ex-players Divock 'big cock' Origi: he never played for our first team but is massively loved in Genk. His father, Mike, played for us in the past and is from the region. We're all very proud of what Divock has achieved and hope to see him play on wednesday.
Kevin De Bruyne: probably our best youth product ever. He came to us as a youth player from Ghent. He made us champion in 2011, we're forever grateful for what he did for our club.
Thibaut Courtois: came from the same generation as KDB. Thibaut was massive for us in 2011 and won us several matches with his saves.
Christian Benteke: unfortunately not the player he used to be. We got him after our league win in 2011 and he scored a lot for us. Probably one of the best strikers we ever had. Shame he was with us for such a short time.
Wilfred Ndidi: our very own Sergio Busquets I always called him. He never won a cup with us but carried us through several bad seasons. He was (still is) loved by the fans. Also scored some bangers for us.
Leandro Trossard: our most recent 'graduate'. A youth product who now plays for Brighton. Always made it difficult for the opponents' defenders and was our captain last season. Local boy who is loved by all our fans.
As for expectations for wednesday: nothing really. We hope to not get raped like in Salzburg and if we're really lucky we might get a draw. We all know your team and some of us (including me) are fans of Liverpool. We're just really happy we get the chance to see the CL winner in our stadium.
For the fans who are in our city: enjoy! I hope you have a great time and see you all on wednesday.
