WINDSOR

On our one year wedding anniversary, we decided to escape the hustle of London town and check in to the English countryside and it was perfect. If you’re looking from somewhere out of the city and still not too far away from London, Windsor it is. A 45 mins train ride from London Paddington or better yet, a straight tube via Elizabeth Line to Maidenhead and you can make your way to Windsor from there.

We stayed at Oakley Court over the weekend in Windsor and it gave all the holiday rom-com feels - it was completely giving the iconic movie, “The Holiday” with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. 

Oakley Court is a beautiful riverside Victorian mansion of a hotel tucked in between Berkshire and a quick ride to towns like Windsor, Maidenhead and Slough. The hotel portrays a combination of traditional and modern English. 

How to get there:

There are a few ways to travel to Oakley Court but the most convenient for us was to sit through a direct tube via Elizabeth Line from our location to Maidenhead. From Maidenhead, we took the opportunity to roam around this small town and ordered an Uber from where we were to Oakley Court. It took about 12 minutes from where we were in Maidenhead to Oakley Court via car.

What we did:

- We spent all the time that we had there just being within the hotel’s compound and walking around the wide garden space that had a scenic view of the River Thames. There are parts of the outer space that are currently closed due to the winter season and will only resume operations again in April. 

- The mansion has different rooms around the lobby and living area and each room has a different character to roam yourself in. With its peaceful environment, the rooms were made easily for you to catch up on your reading, enjoy your hot coffee by the fire place, browse through their library or play board games with your loved ones. We enjoyed just sitting around, having our coffee and hot chocolate by the fire place.

What we ate:

The entire weekend that we were there, we just ate within the hotel. There is a standardised menu for the entire hotel and we may have had one of the best pastas and garlic bread while we were there. Additionally, there is also an Omakase experience  over the weekend at the hotel. Best to book ahead of your stay to ensure your seats as dining space is limited. 

My favourite was breakfast. We opted for the hotel’s breakfast buffet and we both loved it because of its wide wholesome variety from different cereal options to pastries, overnight oats, eggs and good coffee.
