Judges Fall for Prudence
A 2-1/2-year-old Bulldog named Prudence waltzed into Drake University’s 38th Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest sporting a sparkling blue tutu on Sunday. But it was the engaging looking in her eyes that won the hearts of the judges at the Iowa university. “Her full name is Prudence Grace With The Precious Face, because when she looks at you with her big brown eyes, you just can’t resist her,” said her owners, Angela and Tom Miller of Des Moines. The energetic but sweet Bulldog had a large cheering section at the contest. Her owners say she loves cuddling in her chair, watching basketball — and eating cookies. And she looked quite comfortable seated in her throne with a crown on her head. “She’s spunky and beautiful with a fun personality, and you can tell she has a great relationship with her owners,” said judge Sandy Hatfield Clubb, Drake’s director of athletics. — Read it from Drake University
Abu Dhabi Highway Closed to Save Kitten
Officials with Abu Dhabi’s civil defense department closed four lanes of a busy stretch of highway to rescue a kitten who’d wandered across the road and was huddled by a median. The team stopped their trucks on the highway and ran out to find the tiny black kitten. A video shows one member slowly approaching and scooping the little one up before it could run away again. The workers then quickly got the kitten into one of the trucks and off to safety. A press release said the department “always deals with such incidents seriously by upholding the humanitarian and animal welfare principles.” — Watch it at Autoblog
Rising Temperatures Threaten Arctic Reindeer Herd
A vast tundra in Norway’s mountainous Lapland region is experiencing high temperatures that are threatening the way of life of the indigenous Sami people who herd reindeer. “We already feel the effects of global warming here,” said Per Gaup, a reindeer herder in his 60s. “I can see that we're losing more reindeer because of climate change.” The climate change affects grazing conditions for the 146,000 reindeer who feed on lichen and moss under the snow. The herders say the reindeer can’t get to the moss because the snow has been thawing and re-freezing, creating thick layers of ice that they can’t break through to eat. — Read it at Seeker

Penguins Join March for Science
Thousands of people joined in the March for Science in cities around the country on Saturday, but the cutest participants may have been at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. There, endangered African penguins marched through the facility in the March of the Penguins for Science while onlookers held signs supporting them that read, “Science Gives Us Happy Feet” and “Climate Science is Black and White.” The march was streamed live on Facebook and went viral afterward. It’s been viewed more than 2 million times. — Watch it at The Hill
Dog Reunited With Sick Owner in Must-See Video
When he suffered life-threatening complications from the flu, Shane Godfrey had to spend five weeks in the hospital, and lost about 50 pounds. So, his dog, who may have feared he’d lost his owner forever, didn’t even recognize him when the two were finally reunited. Willie stayed with Godfrey’s sister while he was hospitalized. In a video of their reunion, Willie clearly doesn’t know who Godfrey is and even barks at him — until he gets close enough to smell him. In an instant, Willie remembers that smell and turns wild with wiggling, tail-wagging excitement. — Watch it at The Dodo Original From:http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/pet-scoop-spunky-prudence-wins-beautiful-bulldog-title-penguins-march-for-science?WT.mc_id=RSSFeed from Blogger http://positivelybarking.blogspot.com/2017/04/pet-scoop-spunky-prudence-wins.html via Susan Esquivel

The Esquivel kids
These are Sigh's and Raf's kids! Beep (Brightlight) is the only one who isnt adopted, hes a techno organic :]
They live in a HUGE house out in the country near Griffin rock. Their house looks normal on the outside, an old farm house. But its extremely advanced to fit both humans and cybertronian, while maintaining a very homely feeling.
Some factssss
Sature has an allergy with something thats in energon when it's processed, so his energon is very specific in the way its processed.
Comet has celiacs and Shadow is lactose intolerant.
Beep has albinism, and is blind like his sire

Mom Keeps Watchful Eye on Lemur
Yousstwo, a Crowned Sifaka, was born in December at the U.K.’s Cotswold Wildlife Park to mom Tahina and dad Bafana. This rare breed of lemur is native to Madagascar. Yousstwo's parents are the only breeding pair of Sifakas in the UK, and his mom is the first hand-reared Sifaka in history to parent-rear her own offspring. Only seven zoos around the world have this rare species. Yousstwo has been in a heated enclosure under his mom’s watchful eye since he was born, but he has now ventured outside and made his public debut. — Get updates from the Cotswold Wildlife Park’s Facebook
Bald Eagle Hatches in D.C.
A pair of bald eagle parents, Mr. President and The First Lady, made headlines earlier this month as they huddled over their nest at Washington’s National Arboretum during a late winter snowstorm. Well, their hard work and protection has paid off. The first of their eggs hatched on Wednesday morning, and is being referred to as DC4. The pair’s second egg has not hatched yet. Another patriotic pair of D.C. eagles, Justice and Liberty, had an eaglet of their own on March 15. — Read it at Washington’s WTOP
“Wonder Dog” Saves Her Owner
A woman who fell down a cliff in South Australia has her dog to thank for going to get her help. Sue Pethnick, 55, was walking with her Red Heeler, Abby, at a beach camping area on Monday afternoon when she tumbled down a sandy embankment and broke her leg. Abby knew what to do, and returned to the campsite to get the woman’s husband, Michael. “Abby the wonder dog, then led the man back to the cliff face several hundred meters away,” South Australia Police said. Rescue crews arrived to help and Sue was flown by helicopter to a local hospital, where she’s now in stable condition. “She's certainly a little hero now,” Michael said of Abby. He planned to reward his dog with a big bone back at home. — Read it at the U.K.’s BBC News

Comfort Dog Named for Teen Patient
A dog-loving 16-year-old cancer patient is being remembered at the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital with the arrival of a full-time facility puppy. Kristyn Farley, who passed away last year, used to love visits from volunteer therapy dogs at the hospital, even on her worst days. Now, thanks to help from a grant from PetSmart Charities, the hospital is training a 5-month-old Golden Retriever named in her honor — Farley. She goes to the hospital daily with Sue Wilburn, vice president of human resources, although she won’t be visiting patients until she’s been fully trained, when she’s about a year old. — Watch it at Tennessee’s WBIR
Newborn Puppy Gets Adorable Photo Shoot
Photographer Lyndsey Wright shot some treasured photos of her friend Leah’s beloved dog Tiger and her family not long before Tiger passed away. A few weeks later, the family added a new member: an English Bulldog named Lolo. Wright, who often photographs newborn babies, told her friend to come right to her studio with her precious puppy. Wright proceeded to photograph the pup just like she does with human infants, cuddled up in soft colors. “It was cracking me up because I found myself soothing her just like a human baby, rocking her, patting her gently, ‘shushing’ her quietly when she wiggled,” Wright said. Lolo had no problem cooperating, peacefully sleeping through some of the session, and resulting in some super-sweet photos. — See photos at People Pets Original From:http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/pet-scoop-rare-baby-sifaka-makes-public-debut-dog-fetches-help-for-injured-owner?WT.mc_id=RSSFeed from Blogger http://positivelybarking.blogspot.com/2017/03/pet-scoop-rare-baby-sifaka-makes-public.html via Susan Esquivel

Dog Challenges Skiers in Race
The leaders in the World Cup cross-country skiing race in Quebec City briefly had an added competitor when a dog raced alongside them over the weekend. In a video of the race, an excited announcer yells, “They’re being chased by a dog out there!” The dog ran out in front of the racers and looked like he wanted to play — but luckily he quickly got out of the way and didn’t cause anyone to lose their place. That made him just a delightful addition to the competition. “Good boy, good boy!” the announcer praised him. — Watch it at SB Nation
Study: Parrot Has a Contagious Laugh
New research shows the kea parrot in New Zealand lets out a laugh-like call when having a good time, and it’s “emotionally contagious,” putting kea parrots who hear it in a playful mood. This makes the clever bird the first non-mammal found to have emotionally contagious playful vocalizations. Researchers said the behavior is most similar to that of children who giggle while they play. The findings were published in the journal Current Biology. — Read it at Seeker
Blue Buffalo Recalls Dog Food
Blue Buffalo Company is recalling some of its BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs, saying it could have elevated levels of beef thyroid hormones. The Food and Drug Administration says it has had one report of a dog showing symptoms from the hormones but the dog has now made a full recovery. Ingesting high levels of beef thyroid hormones could cause weight loss, increased heart rate, restlessness and increased thirst and urination in dogs. Long-term effects include vomiting, diarrhea and rapid or difficult breathing. If you have the product with the UPC code 840243101153 and a best by date of June 7, 2019, stop feeding it to your pet and contact your veterinarian. — Read it at Florida’s WFLA

Bo and Sunny Get Moving for Spring
Former First Lady Michelle Obama Tweeted a photo of Bo and Sunny as they headed out of a walk with their mom on Monday night — and it’s one of the first glimpses we’ve had of the doggie duo since they moved out of the White House two months ago. “Look who has a spring in their step! Celebrate the #FirstDayofSpring by grabbing a friend, heading outside, and getting moving,” Obama captioned the photo of the two Portuguese Water Dogs. The dogs went for a stroll in their new neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Cute Kitten Wiggles Ears While Drinking Bottle
Bobby Bat Ears, a foster kitten in Australia, is winning hearts around the globe with a viral video of his adorable quirk: he wiggles his ears while drinking from a bottle. The little black and white kitten was found underneath a lemon tree in Melbourne last month. The video was posted to the 2nd Chance Cat Rescue’s Facebook page, where it’s been viewed nearly 4 million times. “We thought he was hilarious. He’s done that since we first got him. I didn’t think to film it until a week later,” said his foster mom, Annemarie Veneros. Bobby is hoping all the attention will help him find a forever home when he goes up for adoption in about a month. — Watch it at the U.K.’s Daily Mail Original From:http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/pet-scoop-dog-joins-in-cross-country-ski-race-obama-dogs-take-a-spring-walk?WT.mc_id=RSSFeed from Blogger http://positivelybarking.blogspot.com/2017/03/pet-scoop-dog-joins-in-cross-country.html via Susan Esquivel

Kids Help Save Trapped Dog
A red tick Coonhound chased a raccoon into a drainage pipe during a hunting outing late Saturday night in Greeneville, Tennessee, and wound up trapped. Knowing Penny was OK and concerned for the safety of their volunteers, the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad waited until daybreak to respond to the situation. Then, they used an excavator to get closer to the pipe where the 5-year-old dog was stuck. Still, rescuers couldn’t get into the pipe — so they turned to the children in Penny’s family for help. Owner Casey Carter’s 12-year-old son, Bubby, and 9-year-old daughter, Kailee, crawled into the pipe to try to put a rope around Penny to pull her out. Finally, after using the excavator again, the group was able to free Penny. “She came out wiggling her tail,” Carter said. “She drank about a half gallon of water and got a sausage biscuit when she got out.” Other than some stiffness and a scratch, Penny was OK, and has been recovering after her ordeal. “I was amazed at the rescue squad and I’m proud of the kids. That’s something they will remember for the rest of their lives,” Carter said. — Read it at The Greeneville Sun
Zebras, Kangaroos Rescued After California Evacuation
Following the evacuation of homes near the Oroville Dam in Northern California this week, police officers were surprised to find exotic pets left behind. California Highway Patrol officers who were checking on abandoned properties came across kangaroos, mini deer and zebras. “We never know what we'll discover out here. We hope life gets back to normal here real soon and that the owners are able to return to their properties,” CHP North Sacramento wrote in a Facebook post with photos of the officers visiting with some affectionate animals. The animals were taken in by a “kind stranger” who lives outside the evacuation zone, and will be reunited with their owners once they’re able to return to their homes. — Read it at Yahoo
Two More Dog Foods Recalled Over Contamination
We have two separate dog food recalls to let you know about. Blue Buffalo Company has issued a recall of its Homestyle Recipe Healthy Weight due to possible aluminum metal contamination. The company has not received any reports of illness. Against the Grain Pet Food is recalling one lot of its Grain Pulled Beef with Gravy Dinner for Dogs for potential presence of of pentobarbital. The barbiturate can cause side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea and nystagmus (eyes moving back and forth in a jerky manner). However, no complaints have been reported to the company. — Get recall details from the FDA and Dog Food Advisor

Rescued Hippo Drinks From Bottle
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya is used to raising orphaned elephants, but they shared recently that they’ve been nursing a baby hippo back to health. The tiny calf was spotted stuck in a drying pond in a remote area. The baby was observed for a few days to ensure the mom wasn’t coming back, then plans were made to rescue her. She was flown to the DSWT headquarters in late December, and has been hand-raised since then by Frans, who’s been like a surrogate mom to the hippo. She was just a month old when she was found. Rescuers at first thought the baby was a boy and named him Humphrey. Later, they realized the baby was in fact a girl, so her name was shortened to Humpty. Even though she now has a new keeper, Joseph, she still adores Frans — and everyone who’s helped her. The DSWT shared this cute photo of her drinking out of her bottle on Facebook Wednesday. “Humpty may love her bottle now, but teaching her how to drink from it was quite a trick,” the caption reads. — Read it at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Facebook
Family Adopts Pup Found in Church Parking Lot
A loving puppy has a happy new home after a tough weekend. Lauren McKinzy and her grandchildren were leaving the United Pentecostal Church of Buna in Texas on Sunday when they saw a puppy alone in the parking lot. “He didn't have a collar and he was hungry so we took him home,” McKinzy said. It turns out that the puppy was abandoned in the mailbox of an animal hospital across the street from the church on Saturday, without food or water. Security footage shows a man driving by the facility twice before leaving the puppy in the mailbox. Police are now searching for the man, but thankfully, the sweet puppy, who’s been named Rari, seems quite content in his new home. — Read it at Arizona’s 12 News Original From:http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/pet-scoop-dog-stuck-in-pipe-for-15-hours-exotic-animals-found-after-dam-evacuation?WT.mc_id=RSSFeed from Blogger http://positivelybarking.blogspot.com/2017/02/pet-scoop-dog-stuck-in-pipe-for-15.html via Susan Esquivel

Sheepdog Pups Buried in Hotel
Emergency workers pulled three fluffy white Sheepdog puppies from the wreckage of an Italian hotel on Monday — five days after it was buried in an avalanche. Firefighters nuzzled the adorable 7-week-old puppies as they carried them to safety. They were found in an air pocket in the Rigopiano Hotel’s boiler room, and brought hope to searchers who are still trying to locate more than 20 hotel guests and workers missing after the avalanche. Nine people have been rescued, and the death toll stands at seven. The puppies are the offspring of two Sheepdogs who lived at the hotel, Nuvola and Lupo. Thankfully, they escaped the avalanche and were found by a hotel worker on Friday. The puppies will be reunited with their mom and dad, but the hotel’s owner is still missing. — Watch it at NBC News
Rare Virus Linked to Pet Rats
Federal and state health officials in Wisconsin and Illinois are investigating an outbreak of the rare and dangerous Seoul virus, which has sickened at least eight people after they were in contact with infected pet rats. The virus can cause fever, severe headache, back and abdominal pain, chills, blurred vision, redness of the eyes, or rash, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Officials first found the outbreak when a home-breeder of pet rats was hospitalized in December in Wisconsin, and it was traced to other breeders as well. The CDC says this is the first time the outbreak has started in pet rats in the U.S. — Read it at ABC News
Ocelot Kitten Gets a Name
A cute ocelot kitten was born on Nov. 17 at the Buffalo Zoo to mom Ayla, 6, and dad Pedro, 12. Following a naming contest, the little guy now has a name of his own: Nico. The other three choices keepers gave the public were Javier, Pablo and Tacito. The Brazilian ocelots' kitten is their second offspring. Their first was born in 2013. Their species is becoming increasingly endangered due to human population growth in their native habitat, but they are still listed as “vulnerable.” — See photos at Zooborns

Internet Falls for Dog’s Adopter
Ark-Valley Humane Society in Colorado was desperately searching for the right person to adopt Donuts, a sweet 9-year-old dog who was diagnosed with cancer last month. Matt Evans, a young guy from Denver, decided to give Donuts a home — and the photo of him and his new buddy shared by the rescue Susie’s Senior Dogs quickly went viral. “Matt scooped Donuts up this weekend and they’ve already started living life as any dog would dream — chasing squirrels, long walks and man-to-man talks!” the Facebook post read. Comments poured in from people thanking Matt for adopting Donuts, and wondering about the guy himself. “Okay can I adopt the human and his dog?” one woman asked. Matt was flattered but a little embarrassed by all the attention, and said he plans to have the cancerous tumor removed from Donuts’ leg this weekend to give him a new start. — Watch it at Denver’s 9News
23 Panda Cubs Pose for Picture
The staff at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China attempted to get a class photo recently of the 23 panda cubs in its care. But the squirmy baby bears weren’t exactly cooperative. So, instead of one photo with everyone looking at the camera, the base ended up with lots of photos and a video of the cubs wiggling and trying to play — which is even cuter. — See photo at People Pets Original From:http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/pet-scoop-puppies-found-alive-5-days-after-avalanche-dog-with-cancer-gets-adopted?WT.mc_id=RSSFeed from Blogger http://positivelybarking.blogspot.com/2017/01/pet-scoop-puppies-found-alive-5-days.html via Susan Esquivel
