Four ways to become an Avatar:
1. Being chosen by an already existing Avatar: This is how majority of Avatars become Avatars, even Jon went down this path (that's right Mr. Sims, you're not special ๐Ÿ˜‚ - I'm sure he's relieved about that).
2. Becoming an Avatar without connections - This one is harder an often involves a Leitner book. Often involves a search for power. Eventually these Avatars will get connections or meet another Avatar to help them along or they'll die fast.
3. Getting chosen by the Entity - Very very rare. Almost never happens. Entities are worse at communication than your toxic Ex.
4. Getting born FOR an Entity - The rarest one. You would think getting born the personified version of an Entity would come with lots of benefits (and it often does because these people are often more powerful than any other Avatar - Agnes and Peter), yet for some reason I think these guys are worst Avatars in general. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’€ It's not like they're bad at their job, they are very good at burning and making people lonely, but that's also the only thing they know how to do. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ Outside of their field they are lost (Agnes even had an identity crisis when she couldn't burn things anymore). I don't know how to explain it but they're really pathetic at manipulation as well. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ’” They also seem to have an identity crisis when they get into complicated situationships.
TMA spoilers in the tags.

Tma fanfic request- werewolf gerry taken into an animal shelter as 'large injured dog' getting adopted/fostered by person of your choosing
Gerry had known this was coming really, no matter how smart he was he was sort of bound to have animal control called on him at some point. he was smart, and he tried to stay out of the way, but his transformations weren't anywhere near as predictable as media made it seem. It happened more closer to the full moon but he couldn't always predict it which was why sometimes he was the large dog lost in town.
This hadn't been the first time that he had had animal control called on him, but this was the first time that they had caught him. He had to give the dog catcher some credit, he'd had to be very clever to corner Gerry. Though if he had really been willing to hurt the human he still would have gotten away, well, here he was. Here being a kennel in the local animal shelter with no fingers to unlatch the door of the cage and let himself out. He had to get out though, or he might get caught turning back into a human!
He paced back and forth in the little space he had, trying to think. He stopped abruptly and his perked up when he heard voices coming his way. "Honestly Tim you can't keep going on like this," Someone hissed angrily. "Having a pet will do you good, make you think about something other then how the ~universe has wronged you~," he sounded very exasperated.
"Great, it's not enough that we're all going to get hunted and die by crazy monsters, I have to get an innocent animal involved. When it gets full of worms I'm going to make you deal with it," the other man drawled, peeking Gerry's interest even more. These two *must* have been touched by the dread powers, would they recognize him?
Two tall men came around the corner, one dark haired and slim, conventionally attractive features made interesting by what looked like pockmark scars on visible skin. The other was blond and broader, they were both looking annoyed but the dark haired one was straight up angry. They both paused when they saw Gerry, he was sitting staring back at them, ending up in a staring match with the dark hared one, Tim?
"See? Don't you think a dog like that might even make you feel safer?" The blond asked, gesturing at Gerry and glaring at Tim.
Tim, now looking stubborn and sulky. "What's he going to do against the worms, martin?"
"Jane Prentiss is dead and burned," Martin said, rolling his eyes. And wasn't that interesting news? "We're being hunted by doors and mannequins now, do keep up."
"Ya and our freaky boss."
"Well a dog could help with the boss couldn't it?!" Martin shot back and Tim sighed.
"Fine, but just to make you shut up. And when something eventually kills me you'd better take care of it." He snapped before stomping off.
Alright, this was going better then expected, it seemed like he was about to be 'adopted' by someone who might actually understand his situation. Not only that but... he'd been without a hunting partner since Gertrude died, and he missed Pack. Could these two, or at least the angry one be Pack?
It wasn't long before the two came back with a attendant babbling about how Gerry shouldn't be adopted yet! He'd only just come in, he hadn't seen the vet and he'd shown signs of aggression during pick up. Martin was all sweet smiles and comforting words now, talking circles around the attendant while Tim continued to sulk.
When the attendant handed Martin the lead Martin handed it to Tim, who eyed it uncertainly before stepping into the kennel. Gerry sat still, watching Tim, he wasn't the biggest fan of leashes besides in some very specific circumstances, but this was his best shot for getting out of the shelter and through this experience without getting caught and experimented on.
Tim made a 'huh' sound and then clipped the lead to the collar they'd managed to wrestle onto Gerry. He smiled a little and patted Gerry's head, who didn't try to stop his tail wagging a little as he leaned into the petting, it did feel good. "Well alright then, I guess I'm going to have to figure out a name for you," Tim said thoughtfully and Gerry huffed, making him smile a little wider.
"We'll make sure he goes to a vet I promise," Martin is telling the worker reassuringly as he waves to Tim who comes out of the kennel with Gerry trotting at his side.
Martin relaxed once they were in the car and only then did Gerry notice he'd been tense, he was good as that, was he web? Tim got into the backseat with Gerry while Martin was in the front starting the car.
Finally out of the kennel and feeling safe Gerry noticed how long the day had been. He was exhausted, and he wanted these two to be pack, they felt safe. He lay down and put his head in Tim's lap, the human made a slightly startled sound and then relaxed, starting to pet Gerry's fur again, missing the knowing look Martin gave him.
It felt nice, and as Tim started to test out names and Gerry ignored or growled at them it felt natural. Martin and Tim started playing a sort of hot and cold game, trying to figure out what Gerry's name would be, it was sort of fun. And when eventually they got it Gerry's ears perked and his tail thumped against the car seat as it wagged.
"Gerry it is!" Tim laughed, scratching behind Gerry's ear. "Welcome to the madhouse Gerry. I wonder how Jon would feel about me bringing a dog to the Archives."
The archives? Wasn't that where Gertrude had worked as well? What a small world, well that made them even better potential pack didn't it?
"Oh he wouldn't like it," Martin said absently.
"Martin," Tim said, suddenly delighted. "Have you brought a dog into the Archive before?"
"W-well I didn't mean to," Martin stuttered, blushing brightly, flustered as Tim started to pester him for the story.
Gerry would have said it felt like home if his home had ever been happy, as it was it felt better then home.
