i wonder if what makes papyrus so difficult to write dialogue for that doesn't feel out of character for a lot of ppl is that his way of speaking is the most formal casual voice possible. like it really feels like he SHOULD be saying things more formally but then he makes up words left and right and says shit like "THIS AIN'T ANY PLAIN OL' PASTA!"

fyi, if you've been getting intermittent cryptic failure messages when you try to boop (or super boop, or evil boop) people on desktop or mobile-browser web Tumblr, I've been getting a shitload of those failures. they're all HTTP 429 Too Many Requests errors, which means some kind of rate limiting kicked in earlier this afternoon or evening.

(which I'm pretty sure is a problem on Tumblr's end, not yours, if its own first-party feature is constantly tripping the "slow down and stop hogging the server traffic" safeguards in the course of normal usage, but the useful takeaway is:)

you will probably get the error repeatedly if you keep trying again right away. but it's not one of those "this user has blocked you or deactivated" type errors that are never going to budge. it's a "back off and try again later."

how much later? no idea! could be the third try Right Now will work. could be you'll just get the same error again half an hour after closing all your Tumblr tabs and wandering off for a snack. i haven't found any discernible logic to it. but this one IS a "retry later" type error, where just mashing the same button again will eventually, intermittently, unpredictably work.

#of course it would've been nice if *this* cryptic error message actually *told* us that #instead of forming a double act with 'whoopsie-doopsie we hit a mysterious glitch!' followed by 3 retries on mobile when OP has blocked you
