New GL fan here, hey! I seriously had no idea where to start reading comics so I started with new 52 because people said it's easier to understand and I should read old comics after I know characters a bit better. Anyway, I like Hal and John but in new 52 comics Hal is a bit, umm, don't know. He accidentally touches WW's lasso and says things like "I always do things to impress people" and it sounded like he doesn't do it because he's a good man but he wants to impress people and it annoyed me

yeah the issue with n52 hal in justice league is that they made him kinda an asshole. i mean TO BE FAIR.. hal does do a lot of what he does for attention but it’s kind of an afterthought, like ‘this is the right thing to do and also it will give me Attention which is what i need to fuel my ego & vanity’.. like hal is an inherently flawed character. he’s real. he isn’t perfect. he makes mistakes all the time, he fucks up constantly and keeps trying even though he gets beaten down again and again. he’s a good person! it’s obvious that he’s always gonna try to do the right thing but he’s also incredibly vain and wants to be the center of attention so sometimes he’ll make himself glow rly bright, shout rly loud and do something insane just to get that rush of other people admiring him

i think hal’s vanity kind of gives him more will.. like when people are admiring him and thinking that he looks good/is very strong/etc it will give him more willpower to do even more impressive things.. it’s a symbiotic relationship

#im cry i love my vain son #it's one of his biggest character flaws but #underneath all that vanity is just a seaful of insecurity #like his need to impress people is fueled by a lifetime of getting beat tf down and having everyone leave him that left him feeling worthle #so when people admire him it gives him that brief moment of 'people care about me!! people think i'm doing a good job!!'#and that gives him will!! makes him hit harder!#gosh i just (holds face in hands) i love him so much #Anonymous
