THIS IS GONNA BE FOR SILVER SPRINGS BC I AM VIBING FOR THIS RN.

So basically, this is my IceMav story where Ice and Mav have been dancing around each other for literal decades. Mav doesn't want to ruin Ice's career and in '86 it was illegal. And then DADT was too dangerous but he's also known as Maverick for a reason and so sometimes, he just can't help it. And so he and Ice circle each other, and sometimes they collide (this was also gonna be titled Haley's Comet for awhile there) but then they just bounce apart bc Mav is scared, and Ice is as well but he keeps letting it happen. Hes fucking COMPACFLT and he just can't...stop himself. Everyone has a weakness and Iceman's is Maverick Mitchell. But they can't let go of each other so they have relationships, which don't work and they're drawn back together and they just orbit and sometimes they crash but most of the time they don't.

And like, specifically, I love this lyric from the song (which, side note I fucking love stevie nicks singing this to Lindsey Buckingham in this performance like SHES STARING STRAIGHT AT HIM SINGING THESE LYRICS. fucking raw as shit)

And in a lot of ways this is gonna be from Ice's perspective, which is where the lyrics come from.

Because he could love Mav, and Ice is his guardian angel (this is canon people) so ice is always going to be there, following him, his voice (which considering ice loses his voice this is another reason I love this song) is gonna haunt him

But its basically just, the two of them. Circling. And I can never decide if I wanna actually have them get together in the end.

So this is set post-canon! Which is kinda my fav place to be a lot of the times bc they're older, and a little more settled, and they've been through some shit but the trust is there. I fully believe that post season 5 there is enough trust an faith that one of them could confess to the other with the knowledge that regardless of if its reciprocated, the friendship will survive. Bc romantic love is just another layer, its not gonna end them.

And as far as how long it is, I do my best never to actually say when something is taking place. Unless I need it for one reason or another bc there's a lot of pedantic people who it will throw off so I just don't. Time passes. How long? Who knows. Not me.
