Auroville is a society based on universal values governing itself with an evolving level of integrity based on Sincerity, Humility, Gratitude, Perseverance, Aspiration, Receptivity, Progress, Courage, Goodness, Generosity, Equality, and Peace.
The Auroville Foundation Act passed by the Indian parliament in 1988, requires the residents of Auroville to reach official resolutions through their Auroville Residents Assembly.
By lack of a better system, the community still resorts to 'voting', albeit with great reluctance. Some people would prefer a Quaker-style consensus, and feel that sits closer to the intentions of the founder when she described "Divine Anarchy" as a the method of government for Auroville.
