Trigger warning : #​Rat infestation video at #WestburyCT ​Equality for Flatbush obtained video taken in February of a rat infestation at 2100 Westbury Court owned by Mike and Steve Spera of #AbbaRealty . According to residents " Rats were walking up and down Westbury Court. They were coming from the back area where garbage cans are station and a closed area where the Super separates the garbage and recycleables. Young adults who live in the building and some who visit friends in 2100 Westbury Ct counted 150 rats around the building. They filmed the rat infestation, posted the video to news outlets. 311 was called and investigators came out and found piles of garbage behind the closed area. Two large dumpters filled with black garbage bags taken away. After 8 years of living with a persistent leak that led to flooding, mold, and asthma attacks,  Leslie-Ann Griffith and her 7-year old daughter moved into a new apartment on Friday, November 11th at 2110 #WestburyCourt!

Equality for Flatbush sent out the first action alert about the flooding of apartment #1R on August 8th,2016.   Because of YOUR complaints to 311 as well as calls to  #AbbaRealty owned by Mike and Steve Spera, the Griffith family's demand to be relocated to a new affordable home was finally met. (see below for details)

We want to see it cleaned up PROPERLY  & IMMEDIATELY The tenant's daughter has asthma and that they are putting a CHILD's HEALTH AT RISK !  We want the Tenant MOVED at THEIR EXPENSE  to ANOTHER 1-Bedroom apartment in Flatbush by September 1st

Background : Over the weekend apartment 1R had a massive flood (see video) . The tenants of 1R are a Black woman and her young daughter who has asthma . For 8 years, this family has endured ongoing flooding sometimes, more than once a week in their living room.  

The flooding of course has created mold and mildew which forced this single mom to spend thousands of dollars for cleaning services and custom made furniture that can be rolled away to safety in order to NOT impact her daughter's health.

For 8 years the management of 2110 Westbury Court has refused to fix the leak and instead their employees have berated the tenant for calling 311, ignored her calls to schedule repairs for weeks, not properly clean or fix the damage created from floods, and used racially insulting language towards her.

We SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

This is important because just over this weekend, there was YET ANOTHER LEAK in the living room of apartment 1R!   For 8 years, this single mom has spent thousands to replace furniture and on cleaning services so her 7-year old daughter who has asthma, wouldn't get sick from all the mold and mildew created by the water damage.

This family has been asking to MOVE to a new apartment for 3 years! Tuesday, September 6th is now the deadline for landlords, #SteveandMikeSpera to provide this family with a list of AFFORDABLE apartment options. Please stay ready and vigilant to call again if the Speras do not hold up their end of agreement to move this family into a new apartment ASAP!
