Herzeleid is the album I listen to the least, when a song from this album appears in my Rammstein playlist, I skip it. I don't really know why, not that I don't like this album, but I tend to always listen to the same songs.
But for this challenge, my heart swings between two songs that I really like. The first is Seemann, a beautiful ballad composed largely by Ollie. And the second song, which I rediscovered thanks to Herzeleid's 25th anniversary reissue in 2020, Weißes Fleisch.
Weißes Fleisch is the first song written and composed by the band. Originally titled "White Flesh", the lyrics were in English and sung by Till in the language of Shakespeare. But the band quickly returned to German. “White Flesh” therefore became “Weißes Fleisch”. I seem to have read that in the first presses of the album, certain words were censored by beeps... It's true that this song is hard, whether in the theme or in its music, fast and brutal and the urgent voice of Till, as if the action of the song takes place in three minutes, like a bad dream. The quality of the lyrics is excellent, Till proves from this first song that he is an outstanding lyricist and poet. One of my favorite passages is this :
A poem, based on the first lyrics of this song, was published in Gert Hof's book, “Rammstein” in 2001 (page 72). We notice that the theme is less violent, because Till speaks, through this poem, to his eldest daughter, Nele, praying that nothing bad happens to her (this poem was also partly taken up in the last verse of the poem "Nele" in the collection "Messer") :

I love Herzeleid album, it has so much raw energy and so any amazing songs. I absolutely love this story about making Du Riechst So Gut 😁
"During these recordings, the band wanted to have the line "Der Wahnsinn" in Du riechst so gut to sound as if it came from a telephone. So one of the band members went out to a Stockholm subway, wearing nothing but a white t-shirt, suspenders, boots and short pants. From the subway he called the studio and repeated the line "Der Wahnsinn" over and over again in different intonations. Suddenly he heard someone next to him calling the police, telling them that there is a madman shouting German stuff into a phone."

This song belongs to the most loved songs band ever made, it is stable in the playlist for all these years. And I hope that it will be this year too. This song I would deeply miss.
But my the most favorite song from this album is Weißes Fleisch. Especially live. The beginning is perfect, first Flake and his keyboard than Schneider's powerful drums and then boom, Till doing somersault with sparkling shoes. And the raw, almost brutal, sound of the guitars. And of course our guitar boys yelling Fleisch Fleisch like their lives depend on it. Flake's famose dance.

Alle, die im Untergrund leben, leben in den Tropen (verstellend/ vorübergehend/ nebelnd/schwitzend feucht/ tröpfchenweise erscheinend und entziehend), darum kann man mitten in Kreuzberg im Untergrund leben, währenddessen auf einem facebookaccount fröhlich teilen, was man so macht und gleichzeitig die ganze Zeit in den Tropen leben.
Irgendwann ist alles vorbei, sagt Klette, ehemalige Angestellte der RAF und nun Offizierin Tschüss, wohl wahr, nicht nur der Karneval und nicht nur die Tropen und ihre Tropfen, vorüber geht alles, auch der Sternenhimmel. Dann ist das Vorübergehende nicht unbedingt weg - und entfernt ist es immer schon, noch in der Nähe.

Klette im Untergrund sieht aus wie Luhmann in Recife (freilich jeweils andersherum), fällt kaum auf, weil der Plausibilitätsdruck des Gegenwärtigen...ja was eigentlich? Reicht? Reigt? Recht und billig erscheint? Nicht nur Buchstaben und Briefe sind Letter, das Fleisch und der Mensch sind auch Letter, die offen herum liegen können, sogar um nicht gesehen zu werden.
Die Qualitätszusammenpresse schreibt über die Lebensqualität in Berlin, Klette habe völlig unbemerkt in Berlin gelebt. Sie sei, ich zitiere, dabei offensichtlich nicht besonders vorsichtig gewesen. Klassische Zusammenpresse! Immerhin konnte sie sie dreißig Jahre erfolgreich planen und durchhalten, solches Vorhersehung ist mir an der Uni noch nie gelungen. Die Qualitätszusammenpresse muss nicht Edgar Allen Poe oder Jacques Lacan lesen, würde sie es tun, könnten sie die aber offensichtlich auch qualitativ zusammenpressen. Die NZZ schreibt immerhin, Klette sei offenbar nicht besonders vorsichtig gewesen. Stimmt, Banküberfälle und unbemerktes Leben sind riskant.
ok so i TRIED somewhat to not just make this a list of my favorite songs but actually think about what i think would work live and in what order and combination, so there are lots of songs i really love but arent here, and some songs that i think are good live even tho theyre not my favorites to listen to at home. also, i tried but miserably failed at having album variety, sorry to reise reise and rosenrot i did you both so so dirty
Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen - banger song and i think itd be funny to use the first song of the first album as an opener. they can include a few small explosions or whatever
Laichzeit - slaps, we all want to hear it, and i think it would work well right after widbifs
Links 2 3 4 - they were right to put this early in the setlist tbh, it doesnt have to be dark yet for it to work well, its popular and catchy enough to set a great mood early on but doesnt feel like theyre just throwing out the biggest hits right away, it just hits the sweet spot of setting a good energy early on
Tier - i think would carry on the energy pretty well and also i would cum
Waidmanns Heil - same as tier tbh. can have a gunshot explosion in there
