31 Days Rammstein Challenge - Day 30: Favourite Ship

When someone asks me about what my favourite Rammstein ship is, my standard answer is friendship. For me, that's one of the things that make Rammstein so special. They have stuck together for not just the duration of the band, but from long before that.

The majority of the band members have played in Rammstein for more than half of their lives. Some of them have played together in bands for close to 40 years. And still, they seem to have enjoy each other's company and have fun together on stage.

To illustrate this, I have picked the five photos Richard Z. Kruspe posted on his Instagram last June, with the following captions (inspired by Placebo's song Pure Morning):

Day 30 — Favorite Ship

My favorite ship is Tipaul 🥰

I love the relationship between these two ! Well ok they have chaotic energy when they are together. But I believe there is more. Till liked Paul (and Flake) right away, and it's completely mutual. I also think that Paul is very attentive to Till and his well-being, he seems to understand Till in all its complexity. He doesn't like to see Till hurting himself, we can see him worrying about him in some making of. And then they share moments together, like when they go swimming in the Baltic Sea in northern Germany. In addition, they both have a passion for small dogs.

I also really like Tillake 🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻

Till and Flake. Flake and Till. The best duo of the band, always there for each other. A real love at first sight between these two ! And complete confidence. Flake is a real support for Till, he is also the one who is sent by the others when there are changes to be made in Till's texts. And Till is always there to protect Flake (or steal stuff for him). In addition they share almost everything together, their dressing room, the routes to get to the studios and a weird humor that they are the only ones to understand.

And finally, I like Tillchard ❤️‍🔥

Till and Richard is arguably the most canon ship in this fandom. They have been through so much together. Of course there is Rammstein, but before that there was poverty, the fight against the Nazis, the bond of the family and their children, the unfailing support, in particular of Till towards Richard. Till and Richard is solidarity, solidarity in the darkness of anonymity and solidarity in the lights of glory.

I've mentioned before that I haven't seen a lot of live content other than through gifs, so my pool to pick from isn't massive, but I'm going to go with Paul & Richard's last hug/smooch of the NA tour 2022.

Day 27: Favorite Pre-Rammstein Photo

A long, long time ago, I used to be in bands with some of my friends in high school. We were never successful; heck, we never played anywhere other than the basement that was our "practice space," but it was some of the most fun I ever had.

And for some reason, those feelings resurface whenever I see pictures of Feeling B. Something about those days always struck me as special.

Honorable mention goes to Richard and Till. I always forget that the members of Rammstein have lived together at different points in time, but I always found the evidence to be kind of cute.

Day 6: Favorite Member

I'm gonna be honest with you guys, but my favorite member changes most of the time HAHAHAHAHAHA

So I'm going to base my answer here on who's my favorite member to use in shirt designs because my answer would be Schneider.

Since I can't afford their merch, I decided to design my own Rammstein shirt. And that pic above is one of my two shirts where I use Schneider as my model. Aside from his pose, the lighting in that pic makes it easy for me to edit him. That goes with his other pictures too as well, and I don't know why but Schneider's shots really fit with the theme of the shirts I'm planning to design.

Flake's edition

Day twenty-six on the floor.

Two more gems from Flake's beloved wife Jenny. It was taken after last year's tour, Flake felt a bit unwell. The caption for the first photo was "I told him to stay in bed." and for second one was "He feels better now." (hope I do remember it right). I think it is awesome that they let us see a bit of their life and home. It is how I would expect it, they have an porcelain elephant but only light bulb instead of some beautiful chandelier.

This is my favorite song by Feeling B. And this clip is... Well, unique 😁 you can see Flake on the floor multiple times, but my favorite part is when he is doing whatever with shoes.

Can somebody please help him up and to the bed? My baby Flake clearly had enough 😁

I tried as much as possible to make this a real 'Rammstein' challenge, so with all of them in it, but i don't think there's really a pre-Rammstein photo with all of them in it. Closest we have i think, is when after the fall of the Berlin Wall, all of them went to visit the USA

Rammstein challenge - Day 1: Favourite Song

I've decided to attempt to do a challenge! Big surprise, especially to myself, as I'm not the best at posting regularly or even just keeping up with the passage of time most days :D

But I'll do my best to actually complete this because I really like the format. Listing your favourites feels like a great way to engage with the fandom and source material while also telling people what specifically makes it so great in your eyes. Now without further ado...

My favourite song. We're on day 1 and it's already a difficult one. There's a lot of candidates for this and I'll keep some of them for the album-specific days.

I was slightly considering wussing out and doing my top 3 instead but that feels like it would be against the spirit of the challenge :D

In the end, I decided to base it on this: if I were told that I could only listen to one Rammstein song for the rest of time and the rest had to go, which one would I choose to keep? And my answer to that question would be Deutschland.

I remember the first time I heard it when it came out, after a long time without any new music, and I remember thinking "what a comeback!". Later, when the rest of Untitled came out and I wasn't particularly into it, I'd still play Deutschland on repeat a lot.

Even now, it still feels pretty special every time I listen to it - both musically and lyrically (see: Deutschland, mein Herz in Flammen // will dich lieben und verdammen). It deals with a difficult topic and - in my opinion - manages to do so really well. It truly is an incredible, well-crafted song.

Honourable mentions (aka the songs I would have put in my top 3 alongside Deutschland): Mutter and (the source of my url) Haifisch.

Day 6 — Favorite Member

Well okay for this one I didn't hesitate. I guess you know who my favorite member is. I've been telling you about him every day since 4 years now. 15 000 posts on this blog are dedicated to him. I am of course talking about Till Lindemann ! I already had the opportunity to say how much I admired him, how much he meant to me. Maybe I overdo it sometimes, but I can't help it. After all, everyone admires one or more people, it even seems to be rather healthy and very classic or common. And if it can reassure you, I'm not an erotomaniac and I'm not even sure I consider myself a groupie outside of this blog... I would never go as far as waiting for Till outside his hotel for example. I also know where the boundaries are.

I admire him a lot. I admire his talent, or rather his talents because he can literally do anything. I admire his strength to stand and move forward despite his broken heart and tormented soul. I admire his generosity, his originality, his team spirit and his curiosity that pushes him to reach out to people and take an interest in them. I wish I could tell him all this face to face, and tell him how much he means to me, that he has made me grow, that he has made me gain confidence, that he makes me dream and brings me happiness. During all the years I have "known" him, he has been a real emotional support when things went wrong in my life.

I hope that you too have found "your Till". If you have, keep him or her or they close to your heart. If not, I keep my fingers crossed that you will find this person one day. In the meantime, here is a flower 🌹 to thank you for reading me and to thank those who have the patience to follow and support me.

DAY #15: 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

ugh this is gonna be hard for most without going back through their entire discography, but I'm gonna try me best here. I want to point out that I have always, since getting into rock and metal as a middle schooler, been deeply more prone to recognizing and remembering guitar work and obviously the vocals; it's not a conscious choice, it's just what my brain does, but it does make this a much more difficult question for every single thing besides guitar. So, I'll start with guitar!

(Cut here bc I'm sure this post is gonna be long and yucky formatting-wise)

So my mind could possibly change if I listened to everything again, however I am pretty fucking confident in that for guitar, it's "Mutter." More than anything else, it's that fucking refrain; it sounds entirely overflowing with wrenching pain and sorrow to me, and I cannot BELIEVE Reesh has said he wrote that shit for a wedding, like bitch it makes me want to cry without vocal assistance to set the vibe, holy fucking shit who died at that wedding??????????????? It will regularly give me goosebumps when I listen to the song.

Okay, second-easiest (I think, lol). For Flake's keyboard work, I'm a BIG fat lover of his performance in "Weit weg." I adore synthwave-style musical works, and this sound is just so classic and really does it for me. I think it also helps that I recently binged it for like, a full day for no reason other than it was stuck in my head real bad lmfao

All right, next one: bass. This is one of those more difficult ones, because I think like a great number of people, the bass is astronomically harder to single out in heavier music, unless it's basically the only thing playing (which we stan hard as fuck I wanna hear my Boy), and because of this, I took the time to listen to some bass covers of various tracks to have the sound singled out more, and now, I think I'm going with "Stripped." It's a head-bobber to me!

... aaaaand the hardest: drums. I want to scream from the fucking rooftops that this is no disrespect or disregard for Schneider, he is a vital member of the band that I adore, and drums are so instrumental in establishing the beat of songs, it's just that this is the one instrument that for some reason, my brain doesn't seem to latch onto and remember when I think of the song? It's completely indeliberate, I hear it and it just slides off my smooth-ass brain. 😭 I hate it because I love our dilf drummer so very much, so like this makes me feel so rude and as if I don't care for his part in the band, which couldn't be further from accurate; I reiterate, he's vital, as much as everyone else. All that being said, this is the instrument I am least confident about when picking a favorite, but like for Ollie, I visited a big chunk of songs that made me think "wait I think the drum performance is strong here," so take this one with the biggest grain of salt: I think I'm going with "Eifersucht." I like the fast pace of the drum in this one, and it's super rhythmic, and that's... all my non-drum-intellectual ass has got, lol. I'm that kid critiquing shit they don't know about right now.

Day thirteen - favorite photo official or unofficial. It is really hard to decide which one to pick. There are so many, literally thousands of amazing and interesting photos of them.

I will go with this beautiful happy family photo, which is one of the first the band ever did. I chose this one because of the difference between how they look in this photo and how they sounded and looked onstage is absolutely mind-blowing 🤯 plus that little adorable smile Oliver has here 🥰
