Wild realization I had today after reading the 50th take of how Bionicle should’ve stayed a high fantasy story filled with mysticism and wonder: Like many other things, my fondness towards low fantasy was kickstarted by Bionicle.
Like Bionicle isn’t exactly low fantasy, but I don’t really care about the high fantasy elemental mysticsm chosen one against ancient evil storyline compared to the faction war power struggle stuff or faux the science fiction stuff. And while I always knew that the faux science fiction elements in Bionicle was what kickstarted my love for techno fantasy, I realize now that the power struggle stuff probably kickstarted my love for low fantasy or at the very least, fantasy that’s more grounded and focuses on faction wars and the like as opposed to high fantasy swords and sorcery like mysticsm. Because I found the gritty power struggle stuff to be much more interesting and compelling than the main plots.

Fic that made me cry: my own fic? Uh. This year it would be the terrible MCD Shards, and actually Promise? Promise. Because Geralt realized he is in love and it terrified him. Happy ending though. I did cry over Geralt and Roachie (not mine) just yesterday though, because it was just incredibly touching and played my heart like a fiddle. It deserves a read.
Fic that made me smile: tbh, I smile all the time, especially writing floof. But I have been real soft about Wardrama or cowboys?, I revisit it all the time. Because I am in a period of floof and slow dancing and I have a need, sue me 😂

After her success with the war biopic, "Unbroken", Angelina Jolie has directed yet another impactful movie based on the deadly rule of the Khmer Rouge (known as the Cambodian genocide), a communist inspired movement led by the dictator Pol Pot, under which an estimated 25% of the Cambodian population died from malnutrition, forced labour and mass murder from 1975 until 1979. The movie is highly horrifying and empathetic which might be too hard for everyone of us to digest. The ordeal those kids were put in were awfully horrendous. You just wish that they had a better life. But we just can't do anything about it. The movie is quite slow and evolves around the kids from the start till the end for 2 hours and this might not be a film for everyone. But, if you're looking for an informative biography and wanna know the beauty of Cambodia, go watch this one. But be prepared for a helluva ride. Il titolo dell'opera è "335 Souls" e sono le 335 vittime delle Fosse Ardeatine che ho scaricato dal sito del Mausoleo e sulle quali ho fatto un intervento di cucito con ago e filo, a mano, con del filo da ricamo di vari colori. A ciascun individuo anche a quelli rimasti ignoti, ho abbinato un fiore secco o una foglia o comunque un elemento naturale che metaforicamente rimanda alla fugacità della vita e a come questa vita sia stata spezzata. Ho voluto dar corpo, simbolicamente, all'anima di queste persone; cucendone addosso il germoglio/fiore, che essendo anche in rilievo rispetto alla foto è come se ne materializzasse la presenza.

During World War II, the Nazis steal countless pieces of art and hide them away. Some over-the-hill art scholars, historians, architects and other experts form a unit to retrieve as many of the stolen masterpieces as possible.
