Introducing Vrink.
THIS IS A SHITPOST BTW PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY
Tumblr media
I can’t decide if I’m sorry or not and I feel like the worst part about this is that if you think about it, it works. Homestuckified Ink sprites by me btw.

Marching along.
1.Tickled by Calliope laughing about Typheus-as-dick-joke, wondering whether Jade’s account of this moment should be overlaid with her encounter with the Typheus minion in her home. Like, mini-Typheus is used for a dick joke later (x) but at that particular moment, his main properties are 1) greeting Jade upon the completion of her descent and 2) blocking the portal to the top floor. Then Karkat manifests, calling Jade a stupid fuckup... which I guess has a sequel in Jade’s “you suddenly understand jack shit”, narrated after she awakens following her dream-death in Descend? And like the descent from her tower, Karkat soon manifests to throw those words back at her... bluh. Even though we’ve covered Jade’s dread of not-knowing in several contexts (x)(x), I still don’t know what to make of this.
2. Slightly put off by the description of Roxy as a ‘teenage babe’. Child-self motifs and what not. And the whole transition from John silent walk across LOWAS to the manically sped-up Elevatorstuck (while Roxy imitates the Gamzee blood-salesman pose while saying nothing but ‘sup’) is viscerally jarring, giving off a sense that Roxy doesn’t belong here, like her insertion is represents (or else simply results in?) some sort of sugar high. Don’t know what to make of this either.
3. I’m with Vriska in wondering who on earth (or elsewhere) that memory of the dark carnival belonged to. Roxy’s frequent references to John’s visual and verbal resemblance to Jake (even straight up calling him Jake under her breath) have me on the Mom-Grandpa track again: Roxy’s offhand reference to being repeatedly ‘owned’ by John and family seems loaded in that context... that scene directly precedes the MeenVris carnival journey, and in addition to the cut and Roxy’s existing connection to Meenah, we get stuff like this to remind us the scenes are connected:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last time we were on this topic (x) an anon proposed that Meenah is playing the role of Grandpa within Roxy’s alt-memories, with their relationship offering a look at the dynamics of grooming that were likely experienced by Mom. That sort of made sense to me. But weirdly, the above suggests that John (and therefore Jake) is actually in the role of Vriska? Likewise, the Vriska (Vriska) alt-naming convention is preceded by John (John) when he talks with alt-selves... but that makes Grandpa look like the victim, if John/Jake is superimposed over Vriska? This is either another victim/victimizer reversal (x), or something weird is afoot.
4. Terezi giving John a list of instructions (inscribed with her personal ink) for the production of a new reality (which is literally the production of a body) feels like it could feed back into some kind of genetic code metaphor... altering the timeline’s genes, maybe. But is there a literal body to which the timeline is being assigned? The Epilogues kind of gesture at being within the body of Lord English (a total of 88 chapters, like 8 ball eyes), but is the same true of the rest of Homestuck...? In which case rewriting the timeline is kind of like. Changing Caliborn’s DNA, maybe? Or something... (I’m also tempted to read ‘injecting genetic code’ as a sex joke, but for once that might not be appropriate!)
The bit from Detective Pony about Pawnee being confused by simultaneously being a place and a person feels relevant here. There were some visuals suggesting that Jade represents the earth (x), bolstering the lightning-strikes-earth / “earth is under assault by planet jupiter” imagery that haunts her elsewhere. And that sort of this is present in Armageddon, where Liv Tyler represents the earth (and Bruce Willis gives her hand and the rights to an earth-drilling oil rig at the same time). These aren’t directly relevant, but they remind me to be more attentive to world-as-body imagery.

what inspired you to ship ink sans with vriska serket of all people?
It was a joke that me and a friend came up with a while ago (@starlight-strider-47). I can’t exactly remember how but eventually through a series of crossover discussions, pointless memes, crack rps, and character comparisons we came to the conclusion that the two had very similar but opposing traits and functions, both lacking regard for others around them and viscously fucking with the narrative but different in Ink’s sense of common courtesy and Vriska’s violent disdain for other beings. Them interacting alone would be really compelling and comedic and the fact that Ink’s typically massive god complex would probably be repressed by being in the presence of Vriska’s sky-high ego and you have an interesting dynamic that could easily blossom into a compelling and very memeable crack ship. We also conceptualized a name for the phenomenon of shipping UTMV and HS characters, dubbing it “Crackstuckverse”, but never really doing much more with it, just having it prepared in case this took off.
no I do not take this matter seriously whatever.

"Sympathy for X” is a good way to find nuanced takes on antagonists. I was trying to find some thoughts on Hook for clues on how to approach Vriska and Tavros and stumbled on this. No comment on his theological interludes, but it’s a very compelling analysis of what the Peter Pan story means for Mr. Darling.
Patard offers a pair of synopses while answering questions in the comments:
Ofonmbuk,
I gather that you'd like a thesis summary. Here's a quick stab at one:
The burden of "Peter Pan" for grown-ups is that a visitation from the spectre of child death may save unloved children from an unloving parent, by moving the parent to grow up in love through rebirth into childhood. In J.M. Barrie's classic, that spectre, Peter Pan, saves the Darling children from paternal neglect by killing Captain Hook, who is the immature self to whom their father must die in order to become a loving parent.
Dear Ms. Solove,
You are quite right: "Sympathy for Hook" is NOT a complete interpretation of "Peter Pan. " Barrie's classic is written on at least two distinct levels of meaning, one for children and one for their parents. My essay addresses only the burden of "Peter Pan" for grown-ups, which seems widely unappreciated. Much ink has been spilled about the burden of "Peter Pan" for children, which centers on Peter's relationship with Wendy. However, no one, to the best of my knowledge, has previously written about Peter's relationship with Mr. Darling, because that no such relationship is apparent unless it is recognised that Hook and Mr. Darling are one. Sadly, that is seldom recognised, because "Peter Pan" continues to be read chiefly as children's literature, despite Shaw's warning that it is "really a play for grown-ups."
