Ok so basically I think Daphne Blake (of Scooby Doo fame) should have a minor in fashion design and a major in Law. She's studying to be an attorney
#rando thoughtz#this is from an in depth convo with my friends (one being a fellow scooby enjoyer) abt how we would approach a modern scooby doo reboot#and were like. 1) lets make them college students thats way better than having them be high school students#and we're like well of course Daphne would study fashion#but my brain was like ''ok. so shes klavier g core what if . she studied law''#if he can be a rockstar and a prosecutor SHE can be a fashion designer and attorney. both at the same time#i know this makes her v similar to elle woods and i would not be lying that i was thinking of her during this moment#but the key differences between them are deffo there#like for one daphne is doing both law and fashion (and didnt rlly need convincing to go for law she was already into it from the start)#and other thing daphne is more jock in comparison she is A Biker and very athletic. she does martial arts#AND third which i think is most important is that daphne is more of a mean girl#BUT I NEED TO BE SPECIFIC ON THIS#elle tends to be much more nice and kind even when shes playing dumb#Daphne does not do that#shes a lot more visibly assertive and tends to snap at ppl if she feels its right to#and when she plays dumb she's more goading abt it like#shes not like ''oh! haha is this low viscosity rayon? And top loop stitching?''#NO daphne is like Daphne is ''Low viscosity nylon? I won't accept anything less. It also has the top loop stitching of course?''#like literally baiting them more just to go ''lol syke i played you for a FOOL''#she is more mean about it#BUT do not get her wrong she is actually a nice person & very good friend#its just she does not have mercy if u face her as an opponent#and thats why daphne is the ace attorn-#oh my god i also forgot to mention the importance of her being in law shes the one that knows all the legal shit for ghe Mystery gang#she knows all the legal parameters. invaluable knowledge for the team

Spiderman!Spencer x Seamstress!Fem!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spencer finds out he’s got super powers and he’s got the brain, powers, and abilities to become a superhero. Now all he needs is a costume. That’s where you come in.
Outline for a Spiderman!Spencer fic I’m writing based this post by @reidcoffeemoon. Let me know if anyone would actually be interested in reading a full version of it. Also please like and reblog, it’s my birthday today💕💕💕
•The two of you met at a Halloween party thrown by Penelope. You are a seamstress and whenever someone complimented your costume, you would proudly ramble about of the type of fabric you used.
•Spencer was the only one who actually listened and responded with his own facts about the fabric’s history.
•You gasped and smiled, raising your left hand to your chest. “You are my new favorite person.” You declared.
•While talking, you both found out you’re from Vegas. You worked as a seamstress for a burlesque show off the strip and did cosplay part time while he was off at learning Caltech. The two of you bond over a restaurant that shut down five years ago.
•Now in DC, you worked as a seamstress for the local theater and managed a thrift store by the university he works at. Cosplay makes up most of your income but you dream of creating a lingerie line.
•The two of you agree to meet up for coffee but before that happens, Spencer gets bitten by a spider.
• Was he was bitten by a spider while investigating an unsub who killed his victims spider venoms or did he wander into the wrong room while touring a science facility?
•Derek convinces him to try out being a superhero. Derek is part of a secret superhero group (The Avengers) and would like his friend to join (once he knows Spencer can handle superhero work).
•Spencer calls you a few weeks later. “Hey, um, I wanted your opinion on something. What kind of materials do you recommend for a sort of… workout costume?”
•Thankfully, you’ve been asked weirder questions throughout your career so it didn’t even phase you.
•You respond in a rambling style that would’ve confused other people, but not Spencer.
•”They’ve actually done some test work on using spider webs for body armor but the tests didn’t yield the best results but I think…”
•He listened to you talk while he designed a web slinging contraption for his wrists, occasionally throwing in a comment or two.
•He visits your thrift store a few days later to discuss his little project a little more.
•When it becomes apparent his skills aren’t as advanced as yours, you offer your services and schedule him to come to your place over the weekend.
•It’s purely friendly… but you can’t help but if some less than platonic thoughts come up while looking at certain measurements.
•Those less than platonic feelings did make you blind to some of his questions.
But if anyone asked you would say you’ve had weirder requests.
•“Would it be possible to make it bullet proof? And um… do you know how to make the fingers more um… thin but not thin?”
•The two of you kept meeting up to discuss his costume and sometimes even other things.
You never met anyone who made Russian lit or etymology sound so exciting before.
•But all things come to an end and once his costume is done you don’t see him for another few weeks. It sucks but life goes on.
You ignore the hurt in your stomach when he doesn’t respond to your text about asking about the foreign film fest at the local theater.
•Then, one night after work, you find yourself being on the wrong end of a gun by a mugger.
•Before you can handover your wallet however, a dark figure jumps down and when you open your eyes, the mugger is stuck to the wall with a sort of strange white substance.
•The figure pulls you to the top of the roof and you can finally get a good look at him.
•Spandex that shined in the same weaving pattern as the combination of rayon and viscose? Hands that were 7.49 inches long and 3.60 inches wide? The mask you spent the last two weeks creating?
•You squinted at him.
•“Spencer?!?”
•One long conversation in Spencer’s apartment later, and you’re telling him to come back so you can modify his suit to actually be made for crime fighting.

Thinking about Stede continuing on his Elle Woods journey.
S1 we meet him, pretty and blond, goes against what's expected of him to pursue something totally different. He's going to be a pirate captain! What, like it's hard?
And then in S2 we have that moment when the crew is all "we risked our lives for blue dust?!" and he immediately recognizes how extremely valuable it is. It's like how Elle was able to deal with that saleslady trying to rip her off because she knew it's impossible to use half loop top stitching on low viscosity rayon, how she was able to win her case because she knew the cardinal rule of perm maintenance.
Two beloved characters who were constantly underestimated, who were dismissed because they're pretty and enjoy fine things, who show they are actually brilliant. They have different types of knowledge than what's typically seen in their worlds, and it ends up being truly valuable. Just seeing that be celebrated, seeing that just like Elle, Stede doesn't have to chance who he is in order to be successful as a pirate captain, delights me to my very core.

10, 11 and 45 for Kira? 🫶
Thank you for the ask!! 10. What fact do they excitedly tell everyone about at every opportunity?
Most likely the fact that whatever article of clothing she's wearing is something she made herself. Perhaps not a like... general information/knowledge fact, but a fact she'd be very very proud of. Her absolute pride and joy would be a beautiful full-length Victorian-style wool winter coat she made for herself that's all hand-stitched.
11. If someone was impersonating them, what would friends / family ask or do to tell the difference?
HMM... I feel like the like, angsty dramatic version of this answer would be something about missing her father, because real Kira would have a rather ambivalent answer -- "I never knew him well enough to miss him", etc, where a fake Kira might ham up the tragedy of it all. ... And then I feel like the real answer has to do with sewing techniques. Like that one scene from Legally Blonde at the beginning where Elle's shopping for a new dress. The half-loop stitched low viscosity rayon of it all.
45. What’s something unimportant / frivolous that they hate passionately?
When things she needs at the grocery store are at the very tops of the shelves U_U Alternatively, when she accidentally leaves change in her pockets when she washes her clothes and has to practically crawl into the top-loading washing machine drum to get them out (she's short)

Hanfu related clothes I've made in the past 8 months
Hello!!! It's been a while, hasn't it? I'd like to preface this post by saying that I'm a slow maker and a procrastinator and so, I've only managed to make 4 articles of clothing in the last 8 months. I've bought fabric for some more but my brain looks at them and goes "uh, another time" and so, it's been left for later.
For those of you who saw my first post but not the second: my patterns arrived!! I got them from this wonderful shop in taobao and they've made my day. I've only so far used two patterns and I've had to cut them all out first, which, given I bought 9, it was a lot of work. So I only started to use them later in the last 3 months or so.
The first thing I made after april was a short, sleeveless beizi. It could also maybe be called a parallel collar banbi? As I make modified clothing as the mood strikes me, please take with a grain of salt all the names I use to refer to what I make, if someone in the comments corrects me, please do listen to them! Now, I got some stripy transparent viscose (rayon in some places) for cheap, which was why I made this. It needed its own pattern that I had to make myself, as at that moment in time I still hadn't received the ones I ordered so if anyone wants it, do tell me, I'll send it to you. It's very cute and comfortable and you'll see I french-seamed it. I discovered, in the process of making the previous banbi, that I absolutely hate sergers. So this is how I've made all my clothes since. I also had to finish the edges by had, as the fabric was very delicate and couldn't withstand the force of the sewing machine. But it came out very nice and airy and it's quite comfortable. I'm going to modify its pattern later to make a bijia, as I don't have a pattern for it, and I think it'll work nicely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next thing I made was still without a pattern and it was... challenging. I wanted to do kind of a banbi to use as a top in summer. I made it myself and then used a cross collared shirt I had as comparison, to see if it made sense. As I wanted a wider design on the collar, as in more open, I could only do so much with it. I had to modify it a little bit after I thought it done but it came out nicely. The only thing I'm not really happy with is the collar, as I wanted to make it with two fabrics, but I didn't want the one complimenting the main one to be "inside" as I've seen in many pieces similar to this one. I don't know how that is made and I certainly don't know how it should be made in this position so I just, rolled with it. I think I will unpick it in the future and make it another way, I don't like how it falls against the fabric, it kinda becomes taught and bunches, even if from afar one can't see it. If anyone has any idea how to make this better, please do hit me up xD Currently it's sandwitched between the collar and the body, kinda like a second collar, but because it falls to the other side it gets warped. Also, I wanted to do this in a nicer fabric but I was aware enough to try it with this one first, which was cheaper, in case something went wrong xD The other one is already cut and is only waiting on me thinking how to make the collar better. I made this with the beizi in mind so there's a picture with the two of them. Below another with the beizi and the nice fabric (it has fishies!!!).
Tumblr media
Look at my happy face :DDD
Tumblr media
Finally, the next thing I made using the pattern I got from the shop, and I made some pants!!! I had to adapt the pattern a bit, because it was for long pants and I wanted shorts for summer (and the fabric I had wasn't enough to make long pants, so shorts it was). I had to raise the crotch some, because the cut I made fell just at that line and it would have become a skirt (as you'll see in the first photo, the second is of the modified crotch) but the rest I made according to the pattern. I do have the slight suspicion though, that either I read the instructions wrongly or they were wrong because it came out very tight and I didn't see an opening anywhere but the waistband so I have to check on that (I added an opening on the side and put in a zipper). I also wanted to use a different fabric that I purchased just for this but I got very afraid of fucking it up so I got another fabric that I had destined for something else and used it as a trial. It did come out quite nicely, though I know I'll be making a couple of changes to the other one, that has already been cut and is waiting for the perfect moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think you're getting my color palete from this, no? xD
And the last thing I finished last week and I also used one of the patterns I bought, the one for a shan, more specifically, and is the one that so far I love the most. I made it as a jacket with a cotton flannel I bought specifically for it and that I had my eye on for half a year and it's beauful. I love it. It's so soft, it's my favorite thing. They say cotton is cold and it sure doesn't give me much warmth outside but at some point I might give it a lining in linen, which is a termo-regulator fabric, and so that'll hopefully fix the issue. Right now it seems there's no linen in the stores because people don't think of linen as a winter fabric here, which it absolutely can be, so I'm pondering whether to wait until they stock it again or buy it in another country and have it delivered. Whichever's cheaper I guess. I'm just sad I forgot to add pockets ;__; (And I'm certainly not going to unpick it to add them now).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do forgive my posing prowess, as it is nonexistent. To this one I added an interlining for the collar to stiffen it, as that's something I noticed I should have done with the previous jacket. Jacket I'm currently unpicking to fix it once and for all :D This one was also french-seamed and let me tell you, my sewing machine did NOT like that at all. I'll have to plan for it in future projects xD I am thinking of adding a belt to this one, as I think it would make the sihouette better when it's closed, but we'll see.
I want to make more pants in the future, as it's getting quite cold over here, so i have that to plan for, but for now I have a couple of short pieces I have to sew before the weekend so that will have to wait. Maybe I'll post something over here asking for help, because there's some pants I don't even know how to name or how to look for them xD
So see you when I make more things!!

New sewing project
I just realized that I haven't taken any pictures of my new sewing project -- while I'm sitting here wearing the nearly finished dress, lol. That's how quickly it's come together, which is just wild after all the months I spent on the last dress I made.
I'll take some pictures in the daylight tomorrow, but I figured I'd document a little of the process now, before getting back to work and getting the sleeves on. Also there's matching pants, and those just need their waistband casing and ankle cuffs and they'll be done too.
Oh yeah, and the fabric only arrived like three days ago. xD
The motivation behind this project was to sew something for wearing around the house during the winter -- something cozy for these darker months when all I feel like wearing is long witchy dresses and cozy layers. I don't have any costuming events to plan for, and this is a dress I've really wanted the last few years, so Jack encouraged me to actually draft the pattern and get the thing made so I can start wearing it already.
The concept is a cozy winter dress in a sort of pseudo cotehardie look -- maybe more Victorian Pre-Raphaelite medievalism than anything that would work at an SCA event, but in that sort of direction. I have just enough of a wool allergy to make wearing it next to my skin completely unbearable, and since I'm not trying for historical accuracy, I can really use any fabric I want. I prefer to use only natural fibers (or synthetics made from natural fibers, like rayon and viscose) in my wardrobe whenever possible, and I knew I wanted this dress to be heavy, warm, and soft inside.
After a bunch of searching around online, I found a 100% cotton sweatshirt fleece weighing in at about 7oz per square yard. I ordered a sample of the charcoal gray color, which turned out to actually be more of a slate blue-gray, but that suited me just fine. The sample washed and dried well, and stayed soft inside without pilling, so I knew I had a winner. That just meant I had to actually draft a pattern to match what I was thinking. I pinned a bunch of things on Pinterest, all kind of revolving around this sort of look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought about using a typical cotehardie pattern with triangular skirt gores, but since I knew I didn't want any sort of closures, lacings or otherwise, and because I was going to be working with a stretch knit, I decided I didn't want to try to mess with the accurate historical way of making dresses like these and just stick with a tried and true princesses seam pattern that I know fits me.
So I ended up adapting my pattern for Rhaenyra's red dress to draft this one. I kept the basic 10 panel shape, but drafted out the center front seam, and added some height to the tops of the sleeves so I can properly set them in (rather than lacing them on with some shoulder showing). I raised the neckline in the back to the nape of the neck, and rounded both the back and front necklines, rather than the V-shape of the Rhaenyra dress.
I also added a tiny amount, like 2mm, to each seam from the waist up, so that I could pull the whole thing over my head and not have to worry about a zipper. And I widened the skirts a bit from the hips down, since I'm not trying to replicate a screen-used look, and so I could have even more swish in the skirt. The wider skirts (and heavier fabric) also allowed me to put invisible pockets on the side-front seams, which the Rhaenyra dress really couldn't handle.
I also decided to draft some matching pants to wear underneath the dress, for those days when I really can't get warm. I used a pajama pants pattern that I drafted last year, widened the legs a bit so they're straight up and down, and raised the waistline a tiny bit so I can put a wider piece of elastic into it. I also drafted out the side seam pockets, since the dress itself will have pockets. I may yet go back and add welt pockets to the back of the pants, but we'll see.
The pajama pants I based the pattern on generally fit pretty well, but the only problem with them is that they're so wide at the ankle that they like to creep all the way up to my knee at the slightest provocation and leave my lower leg rather cold. Since these fleece pants will be even wider, and since the point of this is to be warm and cozy, I knew I wanted the ankle to come in nice and close. But I also didn't want to gather the lowest edge, since the fabric is so heavy.
After looking around at a bunch of pictures and patterns online, I figured what the hell, I know what I'm doing, and these are really only going to be worn under the dress (or other long skirts) anyhow, so even if they end up weird looking, who cares. With a bunch of math I drafted two extra pattern pieces that basically form a 3/4 skirt for the bottom of each pant leg, with the 'waist' of the 'skirt' around my ankle, and the circumference sewn to the end of the pant leg. The result is fluffy and round and ridiculous, but I think will suit my needs quite well.
Once I had all of my pattern pieces drafted, I laid them out on the floor at half the 64" width of the fabric, and then measured how much length I would need, rounding up a little for the ~5% shrinkage that happens when the fabric is washed. I placed my order just over a week ago, on December 9th, and it arrived -- all 6 yards and 5 pounds of it -- on this past Thursday, the 14th.
I washed and dried it on Friday, then started cutting out all the pieces (26 in total, for the dress and the pants) that afternoon. I'd also ordered cotton thread in a coordinating color, and that didn't arrive until yesterday afternoon, by which point I had most of the pieces cut out. Last night I pinned as many of the seams as I could and this morning I wound a bobbin and tested out my tension and stitch length on a scrap piece of fabric and then got straight to sewing.
To say this came together faster than the last dress would be a massive understatement, lol. The Rhaenyra dress is two layers of silk, both of which wiggled around and refused to stay on grain, frayed easily, and needed all the raw edges finished and fully enclosed. This winter fleece dress is shaped nearly identically, but the fleece fabric doesn't fray at all, doesn't slip and slide when I cut it, and generally has a pretty easy to find grainline. The only piece that gave me any trouble was the center front, since it doesn't have a straight outer edge to align with the knit, and for that one I just thread-traced straight down the canyon between two lines of knitting, and then lined up the center of the pattern piece with that, easy peasy.
So after three days of actual cutting and sewing, I am sitting here in something that is decidedly dress-shaped, and wonderfully warm and soft and cozy. I still need to attach the sleeves, tack down the pockets, and then hem the sleeve ends, neckline, and skirt hem, but I'm feeling like I might actually be able to accomplish most of that tomorrow.
For the pants I need to sew on the ankle cuffs and turn under the waist casing and add elastic, both of which should be pretty quickly done. I should be able to have both done by the middle of this week, I think, unless something major comes up, with work or otherwise. We've got a big rainstorm coming in this week, after a few warm days, and winter solstice on Thursday, so it would be lovely to actually be able to wear this by then.
My long-term plan for this dress, besides just wearing it around the house all winter long, is to make other pieces to layer over top of this, both for fashion and for function, sideless surcoats and vests and aprons and such. I might end up making a second fleece dress out of another color eventually, but even then I would want all the pieces to be interchangeable.
The look I'm going for is something I haven't seen anywhere else, but I'm thinking of it as sort of medieval cottagecore, or practical 14th century historybounding, all influenced by Pre-Raphaelite paintings and my own take on mori kei and strega fashion. Layers and long full skirts, body-skimming through the torso but not tight, practical and functional but still witchy and a bit unusual, all in natural fibers and the colors most commonly found in my closet already.
I'll take some photos of the dress in progress in the daylight tomorrow, and more pictures later in the week once it's finished. Provided I can actually talk myself into taking off the nearly-finished dress, which has been so very cozy and comfortable while I've typed up all of this, lol.

This is my latest project, the Fougère Overshirt from Deer&Doe. Believe or not, this was a bit of a palette cleansing project for me. I love the more technical details of a button up shirt (the straight lines! the top stitching!), and because this is an overshirt I didn’t have to worry an iota about fit adjustments.
I also adore this fabric. It’s the Telio viscose/linen slub that all the indie shops seem to carry but name something different. It’s nice and heavy like a linen but it’s got the beautiful drape of a rayon. This particular fabric is from Core Fabrics, a birthday present from my dear husband, and I liked it so much that I’ve already ordered more in the same color to make a matching pair of Genêt Shorts.
Tumblr media
So what’s fun about this pattern? There is an abundance of button ups on the pattern market, but there are a few things I find particularly compelling about Fougère:
1. That curved hem! Seriously, the hem is beautiful, and is finished with a facing so it’s relatively easy to achieve a nice result. I’ve sewn the Melilot blouse before, which also features a dramatic hem shape—but that one is not faced and is considerably more challenging to sew. The downside to this method is that serged edges of the facing are visible on the inside of the shirt, so you may want to take extra care matching your thread here. I had fun with it and decided to try out my new “pastel sprinkles” serger thread.
2. The three piece sleeve construction. Unfortunately this is a detail I didn’t manage to get a great photo of (too much drape!), but it certainly was fun to sew! Any excuse to top stitch is a good one IMO, and it also meant that these sleeves feature a “vent” rather than a true placket. Like the hem facing, I found the vent quite a bit easier to sew than a true placket and I very much enjoyed trying a new technique. I do find that the vent wants to gape open, but I think this is because my fabric has so much drape. It’s nothing a small pair of buttons (once I find some) can’t fix.
3. The dropped armholes. I think it’s more obvious in Version B (the cinched jacket view), but since this pattern is intended as an overshirt it features a lower armhole depth to make wearing it over other garments that much easier. Perhaps not what you want in a standard button-up, but for an overshirt/jacket it’s a nice touch.
Tumblr media
Of course, you can feel free to take all of this with a grain of salt—I am obligated to mention that Deer&Doe is one of my freelance clients, so I am definitely not an unbiased reviewer. But my sewing time is limited, I have no obligations to make or review this pattern, and given how much time I spend on sewing Instagram and Reddit—I consider myself pretty well-versed on what’s available in the market right now. Which is all to say, I have one short and precious life, and I’m not going to spend it sewing patterns I don’t want to, damnit.
The Details:
Fabric: Textured Viscose Linen from Core Fabrics
Pattern: Fougère Overshirt from Deer&Doe
Size: 38, View A
Adjustments: None
Total Cost: $51
$40 for the fabric (2.5 yards)
$0 for the pattern (approx. $14 USD to purchase)
$1.40 for Dritz button kit
$3 for matching thread
$6.50 for fancy serger thread

However, always consider a sleep bra with no underwire, hooks, or clasps, as this may make your breasts sore and painful. Thus, look for comfortable pull-on style bras to ensure your feeding is freeze even when you are half-asleep.
Maternity Tank: Maternity tanks are the most comfortable maternity wear you can ever have in your wardrobe. Especially when the tank top is made of soft and comfortable material, you are never returning from it.
Consider soft, high-quality materials like rayon, satin, etc., with a reversible style, so you don’t have to put any extra effort into it. You can pair maternity tanks with sleep shorts or full-sized lowers with the same fabric to have a relaxing pregnancy and nursing months.
However, these tanks do not grow with you, so if you are in early pregnancy, tanks may become uncomfortable later.
Nursing Nightgown: Nursing nightgown is one of the most relaxing maternity dresses if you are not a pajama person. Made from super-soft breathable cotton and with a high-low hem, you can have appropriate belly coverage.
There are various nursing nightgowns like a universal gowns, hospital gowns, delivery or labor gown, etc. Universal gowns are those gowns that grow with your bump, while hospital and labor gowns are those that are fit for labor and breastfeeding.
However, when buying a nightgown, always look for quality fabric, loose or fitted, breastfeeding capability, and machine washability.
Everyday Dresses: One of the central myths of entering pregnancy is that the fashion gets compromised. However, there are several types of everyday tops that you can consider buying, like button-down tops, button-up tops, empire waist dresses, maternity pants, longline trench coats, LBD, wraps, etc.
However, consider the fabric, size, durability, machine washability, etc., for your experience.
Classic Short Sleeve PJ Set: Again, a pajama set with a short sleeve upper makes it to the fine list of super comfy maternity wear. Especially if this set comes with a comfortable waistband and soft, easy-fit shorts, look no further.
However, consider breathable and lightweight Viscose Elastane fabric to wear during your entire pregnancy. You can also pair it with a beautiful sleep bra or any lounge wear to ensure you also have easy breastfeeding.
While buying this comfortable pajama set, consider the pre-pregnancy size because this fabric grows with your bump. This enables you to wear one of the most relaxing maternity dresses throughout the pregnancy period.
Conclusion
Sleepwear is the essence of getting comfortable, soft, and peaceful sleep, especially when you are pregnant or a new mom. Thus, always lay emphasis on maternity sleepwear as it enables you easily breastfeed while you are even asleep and eventually have a comfortable sleep.
