Two weeks after Taissa breaks up with you, you throw your few belongings into a tattered Yellowjackets duffel bag and steal your mom's car in the middle of the night. You pull out of your crumbling driveway and turn up the radio full volume as your mother staggers out of the house in a ratty bathrobe, a half-finished bottle of Jack in her hand. She's red-faced and cartoonish and you can't believe that you used to be so scared of her. Over the sound of the screeching motor and a Third Eye Blind song you don't recognize, your mother screams that she's going to kill you, and as you put the car into drive and slam on the gas you laugh and laugh and laugh.
