Molly wasn’t usually up so early, used to sleeping peacefully in Dutch’s tent, in his arms, so it was unusual for Dutch to wake up due to her startling awake. He reached out to her, took her by the hand and felt as she trembled- a nightmare or something he assumed. Slowly he sat up, wrapping his arms around her to pull her close, trailing his fingers through her long curly hair, gently holding her. He wouldn’t ask what she dreamt of, she didn’t have nightmares often and when she did and he’d ask then he couldn’t make heads or tails of what the meant. But he held her, close to himself, until she stopped trembling and pressed her head against his chest. Dutch placed a few loving kisses on the top of her head, untangling his fingers from her hair to place his hand on the small of her back. He laid back down with her, hugging her close, rubbing her back in slow comforting movements to soothe her back to sleep.
