lovely bones au where sonny is susie
(When I first saw this ask): Hmm, that sounds familiar, where have I heard that before? *Types it into google* …Oh… *clicks on Wiki article*…Oh no… *reads book summary* …Oooh nooo… *reads movie summary* …Ooooooooooh nooooooooooo…
So yeah, helmets on, kids, we’re taking a hard angst bomb to the feels with this one.
So it’s a normal night. Sonny had stayed out late after school and hung out with Pete. Pete usually walked back with him, but Sonny said he was gonna take a shortcut (cause Usnavi was already gonna grill him for staying out so late) so they went their separate ways…and Sonny never came home (I’m already hating this AU  D’: )
Sonny wakes up in the ‘In Between’ and slowly realizes what happened to him. He had been walking home when he ran into someone who he recognized, an old teacher from school. The teacher walked with Sonny for a while, making casual conversation, and when Sonny’s guard was down: bam. The teacher then proceeded to mutilate Sonny’s body and stash it away under the floorboards of an abandoned building near a dump (to cover the smell). Sonny, now in the In Between, goes home to find Usnavi worried out of his mind, texting and calling Sonny a million times and Chip lying by the door, softly whimpering. The next morning, Usnavi calls around the barrio to see if they’ve seen him, but no one has, and Usnavi’s panic REALLY sets in when Pete tells him that he had been heading home the last time he saw him. Usnavi takes the path that Sonny took and finds Sonny’s hat. Now we call the police. So while the whole investigation’s going on, with the barrio fam doing everything in their power to help, Sonny meets another boy in the In Between called Philip, who tries to persuade Sonny to let go and come to Heaven ‘If you stay here and watch, it will just make it harder to leave later!’ ‘I don’t care! I can’t leave them now!’ So weeks pass and while the police are still looking, they have told Usnavi that they may have to prepare for the possibility that Sonny’s dead. Now by this point, Usnavi’s been pretty numb to everything around him, but now he’s basically just shut down. The barrio fam do their best to keep him grounded, while Usnavi is just having MULTIPLE breakdowns and isn’t taking care of himself and poor Sonny is basically screaming and crying at him from limbo even thought Usnavi can’t hear him (I can’t believe there’s an AU more painful than the Ghost Sonny AU) and Sonny’s killer is still loose in New York. He’s not in the Heights anymore, but he’s still in Manhattan. Anyway, Pete’s been conducting his own investigation cause he suspects the teacher who killed Sonny but he has no evidence, so he takes Chip out on excursions with him to find clues. Pete’s also struggling with INTENSE guilt, cause if he had just gone with Sonny, maybe none of this would be happening. Cue Sonny screaming at him that he doesn’t blame him and to stop feeling guilty about something he couldn’t help. So more stuff happens and Sonny meets eight other boys including Philip who we find out have been the killer’s past victims (I’m gonna make a list here just to make this even more sad: Philip, Conner, Les, Angel, Michael, Justin, Kurt, and Arnold [name the musical and have more tears :’D] ). At the same time, Chip picks up a scent and leads Pete to the building where all the bodies have been stashed over the years…including Sonny which is still rotting but still recognizable. Pete heartbrokenly lets Usnavi know ‘Pete, what is it?’ ‘I…I found…I found Sonny…’ ‘YOU DID? Oh my god, is he okay?! Can I talk to him?! Where are you?!’ ‘Usnavi…’ ‘Tell me where you are Pete! Oh god, please, let me talk to Sonny! Put him on!’ ‘Usnavi…!’ ‘Pete put Sonny on, please! I need to talk to him! I-’ ‘HE’S DEAD, USNAVI! …He…He’s…he’s gone…’ Vanessa, who had overheard the conversation, lets the police know and Pete and Chip wait for them. At the same time, Sonny’s killer appears, having returned to see how Sonny’s body was rotting (one of his sick obsessions) and Pete and Chip hold him off, until the spirits of Sonny and all the rest of his victims are able to influence reality and trap the killer. They ALMOST kill him, but Sonny tells them that it would be too easy a way out for him. He needs to suffer, for all the families he broke. The police arrive and so does the barrio. The police identify all the bodies and take the killer into custody. The police cover Sonny’s body so Usnavi can’t see the damage, but he’s still just about broken. His baby cousin is dead. Sonny finally can’t take it anymore and possesses Pete so he can have one last conversation with Usnavi and his family (they can tell it’s him cause Pete’s brown eyes have turned green). He tells them that he’s sorry this happened and that he caused them so much grief and just about begs Usnavi to move on, because Sonny would never be able to forgive himself if he went to Heaven while Usnavi just suffered. Usnavi gives Sonny one last big hug, Sonny bids farewell to everyone, including Pete in his mind and leaves. Meanwhile, the killer is prosecuted, and all the families and friends of the deceased victims come to the court case as well as the execution. And the killer isn’t too freaked out about death, but that changes when he sees the spirits of all his victims around him, all of them bleeding and staring at him, as they slowly drag him into hell. Once it’s done, all the families come together to give their children proper burials, building a private cemetery just for them, and only after that, are the victims finally at peace, and ascend to Heaven.

Across the room
Request: sorry none I just had a rush of inspiration after reading @manuelmiranduh‘s fic “Cool” and thought I’d do something with a kinda similar premise (sorry Sabrina yours is awesome I love it) so this happened
Pairing: Lin-Manuel Miranda x reader (my first attempt be nice)
Warnings: Karaoke?
Word count: 2,244
A/N: I swear 90% of the amazing writers in this part of the fandom write lin x reader and they are my idols so here goes nothing! also lara and aria are my ocs excuse their presence ^-^ (and “sobrino” means nephew) This hasn’t been proofread.
askbox || masterlist

“Go on, Y/N,” your friend Lara pleaded, “I know you’d be great.”
You shook your head resolutely. The open mic night had been a fun event to attend, sure, but you had no plans to actually take the stage. Lara, your temporary roommate, thought otherwise.
“What about that song you’ve been singing all week?” She continued, undeterred, “Helpless or something?”
You’d only come to visit Lara at college- she was an art major at NYU. The two of you had met online and, after three years, finally managed a visit that coincided with your move to New York. Tonight was your last night and she’d grabbed you to a popular bar on campus and spent the evening trying to persuade you to sing.
You scoffed. “I couldn’t sing that!” Lara raised an eyebrow, doubtless thinking of your constant singing in the past week. “I couldn’t sing all the parts myself,” You hastily amended.
“Okay- I’ll sing Alexander and Aria will be Angelica,” she suggested. Aria was one of her flatmates- a theatre major with a lovely voice and a Hamilton obsession to match yours. Before you could tell her no, she was out of her seat and heading towards where Aria was sitting. You sighed and resigned yourself to embarrassment. At least you were going home tomorrow to get your stuff.
Aria was, unsurprisingly, onboard. “You’re the perfect Eliza,” she gushed as they dragged you up towards the edge of the stage. “This will be amazing!”
The organiser looked a little unsure about there being three of you but scribbled down your names and song anyway. You were on after a guy singing a twenty one pilots song. You sat at the side, fidgeting.
Lara hummed the tune under her breath, which relaxed you a little. No one of consequence would be in this dingy bar on a Thursday night, you reasoned as the performer before you finished.
Suddenly someone was handing the three of you microphones and shoving you onto the stage. You stood in the centre, willing your hands to stop shaking. You tapped the microphone and it squealed. “I guess that works,” Lara muttered, and a couple of people laughed.
You looked to them and they nodded. With a deep breath, you imagined yourself as Eliza. You imagined you were on the stage at the Richard Rogers rather than in a tiny bar, and that Lin was waiting for Renee to guide him over to meet you.
“Oooooh, I do, I do, I dooo- hey!” your voice cracked a tiny bit on the first do. You almost gave up right then but Lara grinned at you and you hit the next note. “Ooooh, I do, I do, I do.”
Lara and Aria started to dance a little behind you, imitating the basics of the ensemble’s choreography and doing their background “hey”s at the same time.
“Boy, you got me helpless! Look into your eyes and the sky’s the limit- I’m helpless! Down for the count and I’m drowning in ‘em,” You gave it your all and were pleasantly surprised to find that your voice when singing in a pub sounded better than you were home alone.
You swished your skirt a little and moved to the side of the stage, letting Aria and Lara dance into the centre. “I have never been the type to try and grab the spotlight. We were at a revel with some rebels on a hot night. Laughin’ at my sister as she’s dazzling the room, then you walked in and my heart went ‘Boom!’”
You walked over to Aria as you sang, taking her by the arm and pulling her away from Lara just in time for you to sing “Grab my sister, and whisper, ‘Yo, this one’s mine’”. Aria put her hand over her mouth and spun away towards Lara.
You grinned and got ready to narrate.
--
You sang the final line with a feeling of absolute joy. You had done it! Sure, you were shaking a little and getting down the stairs off the stage proved a challenge, but you had sung in front of people and no one had thrown any tomatoes- or napkins- at you.
The organiser patted you on the back absentmindedly as they beckoned the next performer onstage. You went and sat back down, a couple of people giving you high-fives along the way.
Aria and Lara went to get drinks to celebrate, leaving you to collapse in your seat. You closed your eyes and sighed.
“That was quite something,” you heard someone say.
“Thanks,” you smiled, and turned to meet their gaze.
Shit. You froze, your heart in your mouth. The person facing you was no college student out for a karaoke night and a beer. No, you were facing a familiar goatee and shoulder-length hair pulled back into a ponytail. You were facing a man in a grey jumper that you knew off the internet.
You were facing Lin-Manuel Miranda.
“I-” you stammered at the same time as he said “It’s nice to meet you.”
You took his hand and shook it. “I’m Y/N. I’m a big fan,” you mumbled, abruptly embarrassed. He had seen you sing Helpless- on stage and after a few drinks!
“I’d say the same,” he grinned, “you sang that nicely.”
“I got nothing on Philipa,” you managed to say, and he laughed. You saw Aria and Lara had been distracted at the bar, not noticing that Lin had slid into the empty seat opposite you.
“Nobody can compete with Phillipa,” he admitted, “But you were great.”
“How come you’re here?” you asked, curious. The student bar wasn’t that far from Broadway, but it wasn’t exactly where you thought someone like Lin would be spending a Thursday evening.
He shrugged, “Someone in the cast recommended dropping by- so I thought I would.” Lin looked around at the college students- an eclectic mix of drunk regulars, theatre kids, and tired freshmen. “Are you a student?”
“No,” you chuckled, “I’m visiting friends- namely my on-stage Alexander, Lara. I graduated a couple years ago now.”
“What do you do?” The next karaoke singer started singing ‘’Safe and Sound’ and you leaned forward.
“I’m working in an office, daydreaming about doing anything else,” you said honestly. An office job- though yours was relatively stable and paid quite well- had never been your dream. “It’s all about the legacy,” You imagined that, if anyone could understand the desire to leave behind a legacy, it would be Lin.
Lin smiled sympathetically “I know what you mean.”
“And one day I’ll be on a beach with Sonny writin’ checks to me?” you offered, remembering the days when you first heard In the Heights.
“A Heights fan?” He looked impressed and you shrugged sheepishly.
Your phone buzzed and you looked down to see a text lighting up your screen.
From: Lara (22:22)
If that is who i think it is u need to get his #
Lin chuckled. “I’ll leave you to it.”
He made to get up. “Maybe we could finish this conversation another time,” you suggested shyly.
“I’d like that,” he beamed, whipping out his phone. “Give me your number?”
You swapped phones. You added yourself and took a quick picture, mindful of the terrible lighting. You wondered if he would ever text you.
“There you go,” you said as you passed him back his phone. “I’ll hold you to that promise.”
--
A couple of days later, as you were lugging the last box up the stairs to your new apartment, you got a text.
From: Usnavi (09:43)
You’re moving to New York, right?
From: Usnavi (09:44)
Groffsauce insists New York looks best from far away- back me up?
From: Usnavi (09:51)
This is Lin, by the way. I thought ‘Usnavi’ would be funny.
You dumped the box on top of a stack that had accumulated in your empty kitchen. It was going to take ages to unpack it all, you reasoned, and replied to Lin instead.
To: Usnavi (10:01)
Yeah- just unpacking, actually. But I back up Groffsauce, sorry :/
Your stomach growled and you sighed, resigning yourself to the endless search for your cutlery and plates. At least you hadn’t brought a lot to New York- your apartment wasn’t that big.
When you found your plates- in the last box you checked, naturally- you realised you didn’t actually have any food and headed out to grab something from the corner store.
From: Usnavi (10:41)
I am betrayed! Need any help?
You laughed and texted back your thanks, but turned down his offer. You were a tired mess and not ready for social contact- hopefully the texting wouldn’t stop.
--
It didn’t. You and Lin texted frequently over the next weeks. Sometimes he would send you pictures of him in costumes or use you as backup for his latest debate with the cast. You, in turn, sent him absurd quotes from your office and the occasional meme.
Your new job in New York wasn’t much better than the old one, but you didn’t mind so long as you were getting to text Lin.
--
Almost a month later, while you were out shopping, your phone buzzed. You didn’t think anything of it and left your phone in your bag while you grabbed more milk and some frozen peas to stick in the freezer.
It was only when you had got home and sorted your food into the cupboards and fridge that you remembered the notifications and unlocked your phone.
From: Usnavi (14:02)
Maybe we could finish that conversation in person today?
From: Usnavi (14:05)
Jasmine told me not to double text and to “be cool”
You laughed and hastily typed back a yes, asking if he wanted to come over. Your apartment was a mess, but nothing a quick clean couldn’t solve. By the time you had found your vacuum cleaner he had replied suggesting you met him at the Richard Rogers instead.
Is this a date? you asked yourself. You knew you shouldn’t get your hopes up but, completely independent of your awe of him, Lin was cute and you had to admit that you had a crush on him.
You grabbed your keys and your bag and headed out, practically buzzing with excitement.
--
When you arrived, Lin was already there. He had two coffee cups in his hands and Jonathan Groff at his side. You took a deep breath and headed over.
“Hi,” you smiled, “I see you got us coffee already?”
“Yup!” he handed you one, “I guessed at what you liked.” Seeing you looking at Groff, he hastily introduced you and you tried not to look too starstruck.
You took a sip of the coffee and were pleasantly surprised- it was pretty much as you liked it. “Well guessed,” you told Lin warmly. “Are we staying here?”
Lin looked suddenly unsure. “There’s a playground near the corner of West 43rd and 9th Avenue-”
“Sounds perfect,” you said and some of his nervousness dissipated. Groff waved the two of you off and headed back inside the theatre. “Do you have a show tonight?”
“Yeah,” he said, “It’s nice to take an afternoon off ever so often.”
“Take time to run wild,” you teased, “and take the girls you meet at bar karaokes out to playgrounds.”
He blushed and you laughed, almost unconsciously reaching for his hand. He let you and you could have sworn your heart skipped a beat. “It’s not much,” he explained as you rounded the corner, “but I bring mi sobrino here sometimes.”
The playground was relatively empty- you supposed most schools must still be in session. You followed Lin to a bench at the edge of the area and sat down. You watched a little girl try to climb up the slide, slipping a little every time she took a step.
“What do you dream of doing?” Lin asked after a minute. You frowned, then remembered your comment about legacies in the bar.
You shrugged. “I want to make a difference,” you admitted, “but I don’t know how.” An ambulance shrieked past, siren wailing.
“You should come and work with me.”
“What?” you turned to look at Lin, frowning.
He laughed at your confusion. “Work at the theatre- you can sing, you live nearby, and,” he smirked, “you have connections.”
“I do?” you asked, pretending to think about it.
It worked, and Lin looked insulted. “Me! I mean me.”
You snorted and patted him on the shoulder, “I know.” After another moment’s silence you added, quietly, “You’d do that?”
“Of course,” Lin told you, reaching for your hand again. You set down your coffee cup and leaned in for a hug. For a minute, he didn’t respond and you panicked, pulling away cause you were just friends- but then he pulled you back and you relaxed into his embrace.
“I would love that,” you mumbled into his shoulder.
“What?” he queried.
You moved away, ignoring the heat rushing to your cheeks and the spike in your heart rate. “I said I’d love that,” you repeated, and Lin beamed. Grabbing your coffee cup you lifted it into the air. “Raise a glass?”
He laughed and raised his cup to tap against yours. “To new beginnings?” he suggested.
You nodded. “To new beginnings.”
Lin started to hum The Story of Tonight as you took a sip of your coffee, unable to stop smiling. You looked at the man beside you and sympathised with Eliza- he really did make you feel helpless.

For You [Benny x Reader]
Pairing/s: Benny x Reader
Author’s note: Oh look an In The Heights One-shot no one asked for ahhhh!! I was working on an Usnavi one before this but it’s a lil’ longer than this one and I apparently love Benny so much I can just word vomit out some love for him real quick. I don’t write a lot so this is kind of helping me get back into it?? I don’t know my writing sucks compare to my drawings tbh but we all love Benny so let’s not be too harsh on me and just enjoy some cute Benny!! [I wish I had more fanfiction to reference Bennys personality *screams* also the ending is kinda whatever but isn’t it always?]
tw: None??? If there’s anymore let me know!! <3
You waved goodbye to Usnavi and Sonny, stepping out of the bodega with two coffees in hand; you practically began to skip to your destination. You were pretty excited, today happened to be the anniversary of the day you met Benny, your best friend, your sole confidant, partner in crime, the boy you happened to have a crush on bad--Anyway. It was your anniversary and at first you had thought against doing anything for it, friends don’t do the anniversary things y’know; that’s for couples and really cheesy people but you happened to know Benny was very cheesy. Just thinking of his stupid smile made you even more giddy, even if he thought what you had planned kind of dumb you knew he would still like it.
“Benny! Goodmorning, how are you?” You greeted Benny as soon as you walked through the door of the dispatch, Benny immediately smiling at your presence, standing up to meet you half way. “Morning (Y/n)! I’m much better now that you’re here,” Benny grinned, giving you a side hug while taking the coffee you offered him. Your cheeks burned at the comment but you shook it off, knowing he was just playing around. “Haha, don’t you have a dispatch to be running?” You hum playfully nudging him in the side with your elbow. Benny lets out a laugh before releasing you, you both work over to his desk and put your coffees down. “You stayin’ long?” Benny asked, trying not to sound to hopeful as he looked down at you. You smiled and Benny swore he would have fallen over if he hadn’t been holding his chair so tightly. “I dunno, I wouldn’t want to distract you and all. And I've gotta head back to the bodega soon otherwise Usnavi might actually fire me this time.” You giggled and stuffed your hands in your pockets, Benny watching you in awe.
You just couldn’t stop being cute for a second could you? “Maybe if we told him I kept you here against your will you could stay a lil’ longer” Benny offered, playfully yet serious at the same time; he stepped closer and you felt comforted by the heat he gave off. “That would never work, Usnavi knows i’d love to be here then at the bodega! But oh, right! I want to take you somewhere later, after work. Come to my place and then we can go okay?” You bounced in excitement, remembering your plan; Benny felft himself melt, he knew he could never say no to you. “Yeah sure, what time?” Benny asked, not caring where or why, he would go anywhere if you asked. He would do anything for you. “As soon as you get off work! Wait no, maybe get dressed first and then right after that! I’m getting off early today so i’ll definitely be home!” You say quickly, your eyes shining with excitement.
Benny could read you like a book and could only figure this was about your anniversary, he wouldn’t admit out loud but he may have been counting down the days this past week. There was no other reason why you would be so excited, that he knew of anyway. “Okay, okay! I’ll be there, anything for you y’know,” Benny smiled, rubbing the back of his neck nervously when he realised that may have sounded to sappy. But you just grinned and punched his arm affectionately, saying your goodbyes and rushing out; leaving Benny staring after you with a stupid smile he was unable to wipe off his face.
It had taken some convincing but you had gotten Usnavi to let you off early, he warned you that this would be the last time you could come in late but you knew he was too much of a softie to actually fire you. So know you were at home, in a cute outfit you had picked out and your gift for benny snuggly hidden in your bag. You stared at the clock counting down to the time Benny finished work to the time you heard a faint knocking on your door. You grinned and practically raced to open it, only pausing to check how you looked in a mirror before actually opening it and rushing into Benny; nearly knocking him over in a bear hug. Benny laughed but held you closely, enjoying the smell of your shampoo and the feeling of having you in his arms.
You grinned, feeling incredibly tiny in Benny’s arms; it was a nice feeling. You both eventually let go, neither willing to admit that hug was a tad too long for just friends, and you closed your door before taking Benny’s hand in your own. “Ready to go chump?” You grinned as he snorted at your nickname. “Whenever you are princess.” He shot back playfully. You lead Benny by the arm until you reached a familiar street, Benny’s brows furrowing in confusion as his eyes landed on the bodega. “What are we doin’ here?” Benny asked, amusement clear in his tone as you dragged him along with a bright smile. “Well, I don’t know if you remember but this happens to be where we met! Do you remember? I was standing...” You both stood in front of the bodega as you pointed and reminisced about the first time you met.
Benny could only watch you with a soft expression. How could ever forget the first time he met you? (Y/n) (Y/L/N).  He thought back on it as you talked, remembering coming into the bodega teasing Usnavi as usual, but then stopping all of a sudden as he caught a glimpse of you. You had been wearing your pyjamas, your hair unruly and expression sour; it was your third day in Washington Heights and you were feeling like hell. But Benny thought you looked beautiful, the morning sunlight hitting you in a way that made you glow and then your (e/c) eyes met his and he felt his heart leap out of his chest. You smiled and he felt like he was going to fall over. He hadn’t been able to speak to you, his tongue was in his throat and before he got the nerve to say hi you were gone. It was Usnavi’s turn to make fun of him that morning.
You turned after awaiting Benny to reply to you only to find his warm eyes staring into your own, his went wide as he realised he had just been caught staring at you in a not so platonic way but luckily for Benny you were a bit clueless. Completely oblivious to the blush that dusted over his cheeks and how hyper-aware he became of his probably now sweaty hand in yours. “Benny?” You called his name, removing your hand from his to place it on his shoulder. “Y-yeah?” Benny cursed his voice for failing him, putting on a hopefully confident expression as he looked down to met your awaiting gaze; it was then he noticed what looked like a small wrapped box in your free hand, a shy smile on your face as you beamed up at him. “Happy anniversary you big dope!” Benny stared at the present in your hand in awe, he should have known you’d do something like this.
He was expecting maybe a free round of drinks at the club or something but a present? He felt his heart hammering at this small gesture, mentally telling himself to stop getting over excited. “I-I know you don’t really do the whole anniversary thing, or mushy-sappy stuff but I thought it’d be nice considering... I dunno I guess I can be sap enough for both of us or something?” You grinned sheepishly as Benny finally took the present from you wordlessly. You stared up at him nervously as he slowly and delicate unwrapped the gift, watching his face intently as he pulled out the small silver pocket watch. “I know you’re probably thinking; why a pocket watch this is the weirdest gift ever?? but uh, I had it in-inscribed? Is that how you say it, whatever--Okay so I had some really sappy speech saved for this uhm, It r-represents how I-I uh- y’know what? I’m not so good at sappy speeches after all never mind!” You rambled, quickly shoving your hands into your pockets and staring down at your feet, swallowing your ‘almost’ confession.
“(Y/n).” Benny called your name softly, sounding as sweet as honey but you were still hesitant to look up. You can’t believe you backed out at the literal last second what is wrong with you- “(Y/n) look at me, please.” Benny said even softer, moving forward to cup your cheek in his hand. You looked up and only then realised how close you were, Benny staring down at you with adoring eyes, a soft smile on his lips as you stared up at him. “I love it, I don’t know how to where it but i’m sure you can show me how,” Benny started with a joke, grinning as you laughed, “i’m also sorry I don’t have anything to give you... Well, maybe, I have one thing I could give you.” Benny finished with a low whisper, starting to lean closer to you, your breath caught in your throat as a hundred thoughts raced around your head. It couldn’t b what you thought could it? No-it couldn’t be. But your doubts were soon swept away as Benny kissed you softly, you felt yourself at how light and sweet it was. Benny held your cheek as lightly as he would if holding delicate china, his kiss filled with a fiery passion yet was as soft as a butterfly kiss.
You both parted and Benny leant his forehead against yours, both of you feeling the high of your kiss. “I think that, was a way better present than a pocket watch.” You whispered, not wanting to ruin the feeling in the air. Benny grinned and wrapped an arm around your waist, taking your comment as approval. “I dunno, I think this is gonna be my favourite pocket watch from now on.” Benny hummed and you had to stop yourself from jumping on him in glee. “That’s your only pocket watch!” Both you and Benny were startled by none other than Usnavi, who was now leaning against the front of the bodega, sonny beside him making kissing faces at the both of you. “Thanks for ruining the moment boss!” You called with a playful pout, Usnavi grinned and sent the both of you a wink before pushing sonny back into the bodega.
You giggled and looked back up at Benny, moving to swiftly place another sweet kiss upon his lips; leaving him more light headed than the first. You parted and smile widely at him. “Yep definitely better than a pocket watch.” You hummed, Benny smiling and pulling you in for a hug. “Well, anything for you princess.”

Pirate AU?
Oooooooooooh! I am intrigued! This could go SO MANY WAYS!!!
I think the De la Vegas would be regular people. Like, Abuela, Usnavi, and Sonny just live regular lives but Sonny really REALLY wants to go out and explore the sea but of course Usnavi’s like ‘No there are pirates out there and they’ll rob and kill you!’ Abuela’s kinda neutral on the whole thing, but she IS the one telling Sonny stories about pirates and curses and stuff. ‘Abuela, don’t encourage him!’ ‘Calm down, Usnavi; they’re just stories nothing more!’
I could definitely see the Rosarios being merchants, with Benny as their assistant or whatever they were called back in the day. You could probably do a whole Pirates of the Caribbean AU with Nina as Elizabeth and Benny as Will (hey Benny has pretty much zero background info so it works) Plus I find it cute that that would mean the Rosarios pick him up in the water, and Kevin and Camila agree to take him under them making Benny indebted to their family (doesn’t help win daddy’s approval when you’re crushing on his daughter tho…) And maybe Lincoln could be in there too somewhere…idk
And Vanessa…ooh she would TOTALLY be a badass pirate! Like, she’s the Captain of her own ship, Pete’s her first mate, and they go around robbing merchant ships that are a bit too high up on the food chain (the Rosarios are safe from them; maybe they could actually be on good terms with Vanessa??) Daniela and Carla could be like her connections on land. Like, if something happens, she goes to them for advice. She also goes to them for money related things like checking the value of something or bank-like/trading related stuff.
And now for plot…I pretty much gave the Rosarios a plot already so as for the rest…again, TONS of options.
One thing I could see happening is Usnavi and Sonny ending up on Vanessa’s ship somehow. Like, Sonny snuck on to see what it was like and Usnavi followed to drag him off and they get caught and they’re basically forced into a new pirate lifestyle and Vansnavi and Sonny/Pete blossom.
Another idea I have is that maybe another random pirate ship attacks their island and Sonny is taken prisoner (insert reasoning here; mistaken for a rich kid, think he’s the answer to a curse, like his spunk, Sonny blurts out Parley by accident (PotC logic), anything could happen) ANYWAY, Usnavi is unable to save his baby cousin and so he sets out with Benny and Nina to go find him (keep in mind Usnavi has NEVER sailed before so chaos ensues) Meanwhile, Sonny’s being treated like any other prisoner (tied up in the brig) when, SURPRISE! Vanessa’s ship attacks! All the fighting’s happening and Pete stumbles into the brig where he finds Sonny. He feels sorry for him and sets him free and brings him onboard. Of course Vanessa ain’t too pleased. 'You brought a KID onto my ship?? What’s wrong with you??!’ So Sonny is basically made Cabin Boy and does stuff on the ship while Sonny/Pete slowly blossoms but OH NO! The bad pirates are back for revenge and to take back Sonny for whatever unknown reason they wanted him for! They succeed in taking him and Vanessa (who has now warmed up to Sonny along with the rest of the crew cause everyone loves the son-shine) is seeing red with Pete and they chase after them. After a while, they come across Usnavi’s ship (pfft, the us navy has arrived XD ) and they agree to work together to get Sonny back and we can have all sorts of Vansnavi and Benina stuff while they travel. We get a big rescue, super fluffy reunions, and everyone decides to sail on together.
WHEW! That was a long but fun ride! Yay Pirates!
