you mean to tell me that the same ship that was already having communication issues less than 5 minutes after their big love confession scene was going to be endgame? and you want me to be convinced it's not just the nostalgia and obsession with real life shipping talking? (because let's be honest, more than half of r*ni's hype existed because of j*livias, without them, it's hard to even believe the ship would've made a dent of impact)

then of course there's not only tim's interviews that came after the season 1 finale aired where he talked about how not every couple lasts as well as the importance of portraying healthy breakups in high school, but the fact that the first 3 episodes of season 2, all written sometime between late 2019 and early 2020, explicitly showed r*ni's communication issues and overall incompatibility. they were never a ship that was built to last. i don't see how they could've made it more obvious.

you guys...........this is why i fear i'll never be cured from the rina brainrot. went through 4 years of people swearing up and down that rina was always supposed to be "platonic", that what they went through in season 1 was only supposed to be a plot device for their dead ship, but you mean to tell me, ALL this time the cheek kiss from 1x05 was originally going to be an actual kiss and that all of their interactions post that episode would've been after their first kiss? if you would've showed this to me in 2019, i would've fainted and i'm so serious

officially one month since hsmtmts ended and in case you were wondering, i haven't recovered from the brainrot

#in short i've been rewatching weekly #just rewatched 4x05 #i've written like 10 oneshots i'm never publishing because i lack confidence #i've refreshed the ao3 tag more times than i can count #cried over bts videos and pictures #realized that a spin off very much probably won't be happening #haven't been able to watch the final two episodes without sobbing the entire time #just normal things #rina #hsmtmts #high school musical the musical the series #useryay

here's my take on potential spin offs or any other reunions we could potentially get in the future that nobody asked for:

first and foremost, and i'm sorry if it sounds biased, but the #1 spin off that i'd want to see would be a spin off about kourtney's life at lewis college written/developed by nneka gerstle. the reason why i believe kourtney deserves a spin off the most is because not only was she only supposed to be a one episode character in the beginning, but as a black girl who also deals with anxiety among other things, she was one of the most relatable characters on the show to me—not to mention her talent is out of this world and a show completely devoted to her would be the perfect platform to showcase that without her having to spend her story in the background of someone else's bigger story. also, i don't think there's a black college show that also involves music in an important way that's on tv right now, and i just think the possibilities are endless for a show revolving around her.

the second spin off sounds more likely if tim had a say in things, but i could definitely see a spin off starring emmy as the lead with miss jenn, mr. mazzara, and dani in supporting roles along with new cast members. i also think it'd be the perfect opportunity to bring back alex as one of the new students since emmy was able to upgrade her role from season 3. admittedly, i don't see myself being as enthusiastic for this spin off because of my attachment to the original cast, but it could be cute to see them make appearances from time to time and also see if there would be any parallels from the past show. they wouldn't be able to do the same hsm format plot, which i guess would defeat the purpose or whatever. but even naming the show East High or just having it set in the same universe would be cool to me.

anyways the third and final option i'd watch is a full length movie with the original cast as a final farewell to the show. i am biased enough to admit that it'd be cool for it to be a rina wedding, but even a jennzara wedding would be entertaining. the plot could be literally anything and i'd just think it'd be cool to see the cast back together in something well written for the future.

fingers crossed they get to release the bloopers soon but in terms of deleted or extended scenes, i remember tim saying something in an interview about how with the strike going on, that may be considered breaking the rules. i really do hope that we get a dvd release one day with all of the cut scenes because i have more hope for that coming through than a spin-off.

as if there needed to be more proof of me being the most affected by rina brainrot, after 8 weeks since season 4 premiered (also meaning that if we'd gotten weekly episodes, the finale would've aired today) i added it up and i've officially written a novella length amount of rina and i don't plan on stopping any time soon
