A list of creatures in this bestiary:
Okay, I thought this blog was a bit chaotic, so I attempted to create some clarity by making a "library page" with links to all the creatures I posted articles about so far. The idea is that I'll post a link to this page at the end of future posts, and also update this list with every new entry. (But keep in mind that I'm still fairly new to this site and I may be doing everything wrong as I have no idea what I'm doing.)
I also grouped some mythologies together for convenience, but clarified whenever possible.

OP Descendants AU: Spider-Spider Fruit, Model; Brown Recluse
Created by @opotakuism
Devil Fruits:
<Previous: Magma-Magma Fruit
Next>: Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Model: Jinn
Japanese Name: Gumo-Gumo no Mi, moderu: Buraunrikurūsu
Current User: Donquixote Antonio
Meaning: Spider, Brown Recluse
Type: Zoan
Awakened?: No
Arc Debuted: Introduction Arc
Usage: Antonio uses the Spider-Spider Fruit, Model; Brown Recluse for both combat and mundane use. In general, he can produce spider webs from his hands and produce four extra arms. He can bind his opponents with the spider web and crawl on walls easily. Antonio can use the silk of his spider webs to create stylish clothes since he is a fashion designer. He also uses the extra limbs to tend to his younger brother, Rosi, who is very clumsy.
Strengths: The Spider-Spider Fruit, Model; Brown Recluse allows Antonio to grow four additional arms, allowing him to have eight limbs in total like a spider. The spider silk that he produces is shown to be very strong with several layers.
Weaknesses: Other than the standard devil fruit weaknesses, the spider silk is vulnerable to flame, meaning it can destroy the silk.
Trivia: The Spider-Spider Fruit, Model; Brown Recluse the first non-canon Zoan as well the first in general to be in the Descendants AU.
Though a Zoan, this devil is similar to the String-String fruit due to the similarity that both allows the user to produce nigh-indestructible and strong stings.
Personal Thought: As an arachnophobe, this devil fruit actually scary to me. Having that said and put aside, I see this to be a very interesting devil fruit of how Antonio used it for both combat and non-combat purposes. I have seen how he dresses. The devil fruit is in good use. I am also very interested in the Spider-Spider Fruit, Model; Brown Recluse being awakened. Though I didn’t look up Brown Recluse spider and won’t do it for the sake of this info, it would be such a terrifying yet amazing sight to see.

New Year’s Greeting from Michael Gan
Tumblr media
Dear KuCoin Users,
As we bring in the New Year, we say goodbye to 2018, which was regarded as a bad year for many cryptocurrency holders.  This is because of the “cold winter” throughout the entire industry. However, I want to say, ‘when the Winter comes, can the Spring be very far behind?’
It was the right time for our team to calm down and cultivate advanced products and technologies. We have achieved many gratifying achievements in 2018 with such a steady state of mind, which gave us the confidence and expectations to break through the darkness and shine out with great brilliancy in the near future.
Globalization was the main theme throughout the year. In addition to our English and Chinese communities, we have gradually started to provide services for users from the Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Spanish and Italian speaking countries. In Australia and Europe, we have found close partners who have laid a solid foundation for our future localization of operations.
Selecting the best-quality blockchain projects was another focus. Thanks to our project research team, KuCoin has currently listed about 180 currencies and 400 trading pairs. At the same time, through the ‘KuCoin Global Titan Ambassador Program,’ we have been able to work with industry experts to reach out to more “hidden gems”.
As “the People’s Exchange,” we cherish the experience of every user. Thanks to the fast-growing customer service team, we are now able to provide 24/7, multi-language support. There were some complaints about the cumbersome transaction experience. Therefore, in November, we launched a credit card service – meaning users can easily buy crypto with their Visa or Mastercard credit card now.
All of the above efforts are ultimately reflected in the numbers. By the end of 2018, KuCoin had generated more than five million registered users, and the unique monthly visits ranked among the top five in the industry. In this year, we completed our Round A funding of $20 million and also welcomed new partners on our road to growth – IDG Capital, Matrix Partners, and Neo Global Capital. The favor of capital will not slow us down but will help further determine the future of the blockchain industry that I have always believed in.
For all great achievements made during the past year, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to KuCoin’s partners, all the users who continue to support KuCoin, and the employees who have worked around the clock for KuCoin. It is you that helped KuCoin to overcome all obstacles along the way.
I know that 2019 will be a year full of challenges, and we are right here, standing on the threshold of hope.
In late January, we will be welcoming the official launch of KuCoin 2.0 – a dynamic, secure and malleable trading platform, including a number of new services such as: brand new APIs and new trading orders like stop loss, FOK, IOC and GTT, etc., which are the top concerns of our users. Please keep an eye on our official announcements. (More details about KuCoin 2.0)
In the second quarter of this year, we will bring out a new cryptocurrency derivatives trading platform: KuMEX. Led by the KuCoin technical team, with the most advanced API technology, KuMex is aiming to provide a variety of innovative financial products to help users effectively avoid trading risks.
Beyond that, I want to introduce a new trading platform that provides investment channels for large-value trading users: GUMO. GUMO is the group company of Phoenix Fin, LLC and jointly invested in by Moneyworld Asia, NGC, and KuCoin. If you are interested, feel free to click the link to join.
Now that the New Year’s bell has sounded, in 2019, KuCoin will stay true to our mission. We will fight tooth and nail to create more abundant user values and pursue our vision to be “the People’s Exchange,” preparing the way for the future of blockchain industry’s dominance. We always believe that our loyalty will stand the test of time, which will let us see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Don’t be afraid of the long road ahead, but look forward to the bright future.
Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Michael Gan

Ori and the Blind Forest - Game Analysis
Tumblr media
Figure 1: Cover artwork (Source: Ori and the Blind Forest, 2015)
Story Elements:
The setting is located in the fictional setting Nibel, a land of vast natural landscapes where fictional flora and fauna thrive. The story revolves around Ori, a guardian spirit of the great Spirit Tree tasked to restore balance to Nibel after Kuro the giant bird had done otherwise as an act of vengeance. Notable characters include Naru, a creature acting as the guardian for Ori when it got separated from its kin, Gumo, a spider-like creature who got distraught when its kin disappeared but eventually helped Ori’s heroic journey, and Kuro, a giant bird whose most of her children had died due to an accident involving Ori’s kin.
Narrative elements:
Dialogue: Minimal. Vocally the dialogue is spoken in gibberish. Ori’s companion Sein is the only in-game character who initiates dialogues only to prompt Ori/the player when encountering unfamiliar scenes and objects. Otherwise dialogues between other characters are conveyed through movements and emotions.
Pace: Varied. Some instances have low intensity and allow you to explore the game and the environment as much as you want. Few instances have a very high intensity and can be on a ticking clock, such as climbing inside a tree quickly as the water levels rise rapidly. Although for combat purposes only, another occasional instance which comes later in the game involves Ori using slow-motion to retaliate and deflect enemy attacks.
Focalization: It is primarily focused on the playable and main character Ori but there are a few scenes where the main focus is the other characters such as Naru (playable in three different scenes) and Kuro.
Narrator: The Spirit Tree itself serves as the narrator of some scenes within the game. Aided by the characterization as Ori’s creator and its deep voice, it serves as a mostly implicit but omniscient narrator.
Text: Present only as printed text. From a character standpoint it only came from an omniscient voice (the Spirit Tree) or dialogues said by Sein. Sometimes they are also presented as hints on how to progress the narrative as well as tooltips; information displayed upon interacting with interface symbols or in game objects.
Traditional elements:
The main protagonist is Ori, who tries to restore balance to the land but eventually also has to face the threat of the bird Kuro. The story began with a prologue where Ori was separated from its kin and Naru ended up finding and raising them before the land started dying. As such, it features a “coming-of-age story”. Ori’s journey is supported by other named characters such as Sein, a sprite borne from the same tree as Ori who serves as the narrative guide and a sort of weapon, Naru, the foster parent of Ori, and Gumo, a spider-like creature who also lost its kin and initially was a minor antagonist. There is a general structure consisting of the following:
Separation Departure: Naru and Ori dies shortly when Nibel fell to ruin and the latter must save the land after being resurrected
Initialization: Sein guides Ori on how to restore balance to Nibel by going to different regions and recover the essences in each of them
Return: Naru lives with the help of Gumo and rescues Ori from Kuro which eventually leads to the complete restoration of Nibel
Digital elements:
Ori and the Blind Forest is first and foremost designed as a video game but with a publicly acclaimed appeal towards the visuals (Melissinos, 2016) and story elements to support the narrative. It takes form as a 2.5D platformer game that also exhibits 3D models and animations (Batchelor, 2018). The gameplay and its systems are modular as a result of its genre. Sound effects and music are also present, although dialogue in audio format are conveyed in a gibberish but structured manner. Some scenes or parts of the game are automated but otherwise largely the game involves the actions and movements of the controlling player.
Audience & user interaction:
The player takes control of the white spirit Ori, but in certain occasions other characters, namely Naru are playable for storytelling purposes. Played completely from a 3rd person perspective, players can direct Ori in a 2D space to navigate through areas and use their combat abilities to overcome enemies and solve puzzles to advance through the narrative. The plot and narrative is completely linear and as such the player cannot influence different outcomes of the gameplay, but the gameplay elements such as combat or quality of life enhancements for better game navigation are present and largely depends on the player’s ability to explore the game space. Throughout the game, the narrative directs users to new game mechanics that they will employ for future uses in order to advance the narrative further.
The following are among the important interactions users can engage with the narrative:
Running
Jumping
Swimming
Attacking enemies
Object interactions e.g pushing stones
Opening interfaces to save the game or upgrade abilities
