#also never shopping in my nearest town again maybe #i saw my cousin's ex who lives an hour away and her friend together which is so....... like wow i really thought i'd seen the last of him #very messy situation #started talking to a cashier/stocker i've spoken with on occasion for several years and she showed me some of her art & poetry (???)#got in line in front of one of my former classmate's dads who tried to proposition me right after my mom died #went to the new dollar store which has four self checkouts & one manned‚ tried to use a self checkout and the cashier said #'we don't have self checkouts' i said 'do you mean today or period' she said 'period' and we discussed how badly that's got them fucked up #they're literally running one of the self checkouts as a manned checkout when things get busy like...#and it was JUST built!! like just less than a year ago i think #i always come home from that town wanting to pull my hair out it's sooo strange!! like everything is craaazy #i also got fucking scammed!#i forgot to check until just now but the grocery store likes to run a weekly sale then not update the computers to reflect it #like they've done this for years and years #and i paid $1.99/lb for apples that were marked down to $1.12/lb so i overpaid a damn dollar #during the panini when it was my only source of groceries sometimes the difference would literally be like $50 because of big ticket items #i'd usually walk out‚ unload and read the receipt‚ then walk back in and get my refund. every friday.#and if i didn't i'd be out like $100/month for nothing on top of everything costing double what it did in the city #that place is fucking cursed. like there's just layers and layers of misery covering every surface.#adam yaps

BCA suggests Australian govt to reveal terminated contracts amidst spree of consultancy scams

The Bussiness Council of Australia (BCA) in a public statement on 23rd February 2024 urged the Federal Govt to track down consultancy contracts that got terminated due to material breaches and discrepancies. Further, the apex body added, that the Federal Govt should consider banning firms involved with the contracts to limit them from getting work.

As per a report in the Australian Financial Review, the body further suggested that there needs to be more transparency in declaring information on public sector tender bids, along with releasing indispensable data on unsuccessful tender bidders. The grouping which has some of the most known firms in the consulting world; along with major global companies, urged the Govt to employ specialists in bureaucracy.

The BCA appeared before a consulting committee formed by the senate to inquire regarding the matter in Canberra on 23rd February 2024 on Friday. The grouping made 11 recommendations in dealing with the terminated contracts.

Bran Black the Head Executive of the grouping suggested the Govt to train Bureaucrats in taxation law and help them to assess the contracts beforehand and look out for any possible conflict of interest with the party offering the tender. He urged the Finance Department to maintain a central register with names of people who have been alleged to have been found with deceptive consulting contracts. Along with that also make defined and clear rules on the consequences of such violations, this will enhance honesty and accountability among the involved parties.

The BCA also reiterates that the guidelines of the contract should be very clear about the right scope of the deliverables, roles, and responsibilities of the firm getting the contract. Also, mention consequences if certain important guidelines are not followed. This should all descriptively be laid down in the register.

PwC Scam exposed Consultancy Firms

These changes were recommended by BCA when some consulting firms have been alleged of leaking sensitive information discussed with the Govt to big corporations. In 2016 the PwC scam sent shockwaves to people informing the public about falter lines that are spread out in the Consulting space. PwC partner Peter John Collins was caught supplying sensitive information about policy decisions on making better taxation laws to his other colleagues, the information was highly confidential, and knowing it could have led to Tax avoidance or worst theft.

Collins faced a ban as an employee of PwC after this incident and also lost his status as a Tax Agent for 2 years. The senate published a report citing multiple emails Collins was sending to many big businesses in North America assisting the companies to set up shop in Australia. According to the Australian Tax authorities, this scam was done at the behest of a loss of A$180 million of taxpayers' money.

The Australian Govt however in light of the recent PwC tax leak scandal, has lowered its spending on consulting work. The Govt has decided to not take private parties as consulting agents. Seeing this many Pension Funds and companies followed suit and canceled deals with Tax Consultants..The Senate in the wake of the scam back then on 8th June 2023 conducted an inquiry on the entire Consulting Industry.

In her statement to the Financial Times, Deborah O’Neil, a teacher turned Senator on 15th June 2023 who published the spree of emails that Collins had sent to his friends to award them contracts says there exists a revolving door between Govt departments and Consultancy Companies mainly the Big 4, including PwC, Deloitte. KPMG and EY (Ernst & Young). She reiterates that legal privilege is often exercised by companies to hide their nefarious acts, comparing it to an invisibility cloak as seen in the Harry Porter book series.

Academic report censored

In December 2023 another incident exposed the fault lines in the Australian Consulting space when Peter Carey an academic from Deakin University along with his colleague George Tanewski, alleged that a Govt agency prompted them to research financial reports. Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB), told the duo not to mention the shoddy financial audit reports of the Big 4 as there are members from each of these companies who are also members of the agency holding a seat.

In the wake of these incidents, Deborah O Niel the Labour senator alleges that her country is seeing a regulatory capture where personal inclinations and needs are put above collective work.

These claims are however meted with sharp criticism by Keith Kendall the AASB Chair, as per a piece written on 15th June 2023, in The Guardian Australia where he suggested that no explicit mentioning is done to alter reports and choose companies based on personal whimsies. Carey also praised the AASB for keeping regulatory positions in mind, which is in sharp contrast to Senator O’Neil’s position.

Graeme Samuel the acting head of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, further reiterates that a Consultant cannot be a Consultant as well as an Auditor, these two roles do not complement each other, and it produces a redundant and bad audit report.

The people’s response

On May 18, 2023, The Australian Institute conducted a public survey to see the mood of the populous and their opinion on these Consultancy scams. This new research shows major trends of change in public discourse. As per the results, a majority of Australians close to 80% suggest govt to cut ties with companies that are involved in these scams. The report also shows that 85% of Australians would urge the members involved in the deal to be ready to come anytime the Senate calls for an inquiry with committees, 79% of Australians believe that Officials involved in the public sector are equally competent in Consulting work as private players.

72% of respondents expressed concern about Govt using the $1 Billion funds alone on Consultancy work and have deemed it unnecessary, they would rather put their faith in Govt servants in the public sector.

Conclusion

This piece caters to the theme of Consultancy material breaches and in the wake of it manipulation of govt information. This piece reflects on BCA and their recommendation letter to urge govt to make Consultancy reports that the center terminated available to the public. મળતી માહિતી અનુસાર કોંગ્રેસ અધ્યક્ષ ખડગે અને રાહુલ ગાંધી મહારાષ્ટ્ર કોંગ્રેસના વરિષ્ઠ નેતાઓ સાથે રાજ્યની રાજકીય સ્થિતિ પર ચર્ચા કરશે. આ દરમિયાન ધારાસભ્યો પર મંડરાઈ રહેલા ખતરા અંગે પણ ચર્ચા થઈ શકે છે. કારણ કે છેલ્લા કેટલાક દિવસોથી મહારાષ્ટ્રમાં ધારાસભ્યોની અદલાબદલીની મોસમ ચાલી રહી છે. આવી સ્થિતિમાં કોંગ્રેસને પણ પક્ષમાં ભાગલા પડવાની ચિંતા સતાવી રહી છે.

ભાજપના નેતાઓએ દાવો કર્યો હતો

મહારાષ્ટ્ર કોંગ્રેસની ચિંતા ત્યારે વધી ગઈ જ્યારે ભાજપના નેતાઓ ધારાસભ્યોના સંપર્કમાં હોવાનું કહેવાય છે. NCPમાં વિભાજન થયા બાદ ભાજપના નેતાઓએ દાવો કર્યો છે કે એકમાત્ર વિપક્ષ કોંગ્રેસના ઘણા ધારાસભ્યો પણ તેમના સંપર્કમાં છે અને તેઓ પણ આગામી દિવસોમાં મહાગઠબંધનમાં જોડાઈ શકે છે. મહારાષ્ટ્રના વન મંત્રી સુધીર મુનગંટીવારે દાવો કર્યો હતો કે કોંગ્રેસ અને અન્ય પક્ષોના નેતાઓ એનડીએમાં જોડાવા માંગે છે. તેમણે કહ્યું કે કોંગ્રેસના ઘણા નેતાઓ તેમની પાર્ટીથી ખુશ નથી.

કોંગ્રેસ સૌથી મોટી વિપક્ષી પાર્ટી છે

as a lot of you know, limbus company recently fired its CG illustrator for being a feminist, at 11 pm, via phone call, after a bunch of misogynists walked into the office earlier that day and demanded she be fired. on top of this, as per korean fans, her firing went against labor laws---in korea, you must have your dismissal in writing.

the korean fandom on twitter is, understandably, going scorched earth on project moon due to this. there's a lot currently going on to protest the decision, so i'm posting a list here of what's going on for those who want to limit their time on elon musk's $44 billion midlife crisis impulse purchase website (if you are on twitter, domuk is a good person to follow, as they translate important updates to english). a lot of the links are in korean, but generally they play nicely with machine translators. this should be current as of 8/2.

Statements condemning the decision have been issued by The Gyeonggi Youth Union and IT Union.

A press conference at the Gyeonggido Assembly will occur on 8/3, with lawmakers of the Gyeonggi province (where Project Moon is based) in attendance. This appears driven by the leader of the Gyeonggi Youth Union.

The vice chairman of the IT union--who has a good amount of experience with labor negotiations like these--has expressed strong support for the artist and is working to get media coverage due to the ongoing feminist witch hunts in the gaming industry. Project Moon isn't union to my knowledge, but he's noted that he's taken on nonunion companies such as Netmarble (largest mobile game dev in South Korea) by getting the issue in front of the National Assembly (Korea's congress).

Comments by Youth Union leaders about looking into a loan made to Project Moon via Devsisters Ventures, a venture capital firm. Tax money from Gyeonggi province was invested in Devsisters in 2017, and in 2021, Devsisters gave money to Project Moon. The Gyeonggi Youth Union is asking why hard-earned tax money was indirectly given to a company who violates ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles.

Not opening the app at all is arguably the biggest thing any one person can do to protest the decision, as the app logs the number of accounts that log on daily. For a new gacha such as Limbus, a high number of F2P daily active users, but a small number of paying users is often preferable to having a smaller userbase but more paying users. If the company sees the number of daily users remain stable, they will likely decide to wait out any backlash rather than apologize.

Digging up verified reviews from previous employees regarding the company's poor management practices

Due to the firing, the Leviathan artist has posted about poor working conditions when making the story. As per a bilingual speaker, they were working on a storyboard revision, and thought 'if I ran into the street right now and got hit by a car and died, I wouldn't have to keep working.' They contacted Project Moon because they didn't want their work to be like that, and proposed changes to serialization/reduction in amount of work per picture/to build up a buffer of finished images (they did not have any buffer while working on Leviathan to my knowledge). They were shut out, and had to suck it up and accept the situation.

Hamhampangpang has a 'shrine' section of the restaurant for fans to leave fan-created merch and other items. They also allow the fans to take this merch back if they can prove it's theirs. Fans are now doing just that.

To boost all of the above, a large number of Korean fanartists with thousands of followers have deleted their works and/or converted their accounts from fanart accounts to accounts supporting the protests. Many of them are bilingual, and they're where I got the majority of this information.

[note 1: there's a targeted english-language disinformation campaign by the website that started the hate mob. i have read the artist's tweets with machine translation, and they're talked about in the second hankyoreh article linked above: nowhere does she express any transphobic or similarly awful beliefs. likewise, be wary of any claims that she supported anything whose description makes you raise eyebrows--those claims are likely in reference to megalia, a korean feminist movement. for information on that, i'd recommend the NPR/BBC articles below and this google drive link of english-language scholarly papers on them. for the love of god don't get your information about a feminist movement from guys going on witch hunts for feminists.]

[note 2: i've seen a couple people argue that the firing was for the physical safety of the employees, citing the kyoani incident in japan. as per this korean fan, most fans there strongly do not believe this was the case. we have english-translated transcripts of the meeting between the mob and project moon; the threats the mob was making were to......brand project moon as a feminist company online. yes, really. male korean gamers aren't normal about feminism, and there's been an ongoing witch hunt for feminists in the industry since about 2016, something you see noted in both the labor union statements. both NPR and the BBC this phenomenon to gamergate, and i'd say it's a pretty apt comparison.]

"Oscar Pastry!" She sang as she skipped towards the McLaren garage.

The Australian in question glared at her, but it was a good thing his glare made him look like an angry puppy.

"That's not my name," he said as she came closer.

Y/N thought for a minute. "No, no. I think it is," she answered and looked around the garage for his teammate. "Lando! This is Oscar Pastry, right?"

"Definitely Oscar Pastry!" Lando shouted back.

"That's settles it then, Oscar Pastry."

Oscar may have been glaring, but he skill kissed her. "Wish me luck today," he said, placing his hands on her hips while Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Good luck, Pastry," she whispered and placed her head against his chest.

Oscar kissed the top of her head, wrapping his arms more securely around her.

Pastry, because that was what Y/N thought his name was when they'd first met. She'd soon learnt it was Piastri, but by then it was too late and the name had stuck. Even before they were dating, she still called him Oscar Pastry.

It was his name in her phone when they were innocently flirting over text. When the flirting was no longer innocent, his name was still Oscar Pastry.

When Oscar had asked Y/N to be his, she'd answered with "Of course, Oscar Pastry."

Now, a year on from that everything was different. Oscar was no longer in F2 and a lot more of his life was in the limelight. But he was still Y/Ns Oscar Pastry.

2023 was Oscars rookie season. But he was amazing. Y/N always came away from each race filled with pride. Oscar could have DNFed or finished each race last and she still would have been filled with pride.

"Pastry!" Y/N shouted as he got out of the car. He wasted no time in taking her into his arms and spinning her around. His helmet was still on his head, so Y/N had no choice but to kiss it, to kiss where his mouth should have been.

He let her go, pulled off his helmet and gave her a real kiss. One that had the lads in the McLaren garage clapping their hands and turning away to give them a little bit of privacy.

After that Oscar was off to do what he needed to do after the race. Y/N waited for him in his driver's room. She played on her phone, scrolling through social media to see pictures of the race already up on her Instagram.

The Oscar fans were her favourite. There were some familiar faces on her feed, fans that had been there since his F2 days and had moved up into F1 with them.

There were several pictures of Oscars McLaren driving around the track. There were quick videos of him overtaking other drivers and pictures of his jumping out of his car.

And then Y/N got to the F1 news sites. Ever since Oscars F1 debut, the news sites run by the male F1 fans had been overly critical of her specifically. So, Y/N tended to avoid them. She stuck to the accounts that loved her and Oscar together, the accounts that didn't tear her down just because she was with Oscar.

The wag accounts had posted updates from the race, the most recent of which being the picture of her kissing Oscars helmet. And then it was the pictures of her actually kissing Oscar. Him all sweaty and disheveled from the race, her radiating pure joy.

Y/N couldn't go to every race. As much as she tried, she couldn't make it to every single one. She had work and school to attend.

So, when she couldn't make it to a race, Oscar was very understanding. They called and texted as much as they possibly could. Even if she had to watch the race through her tv screen, she still watched the race.

Studying and working was a tiring business. Sunday evening, after the race, Y/N was exhausted. With preparing to write her thesis, she only managed to half watch the race. It was mainly her listening out for Oscars name and number as she typed away at her laptop.

Oscar was due home that night. To the some they shared.

Y/N tried her very best to stay awake as she waited for him, she really did. Maybe her first mistake was climbing into bed. Maybe her first mistake was getting under the blankets and letting the warmth cocoon her.

The same thing probably would have happened if she had stayed sitting on the couch. At least in her bed she was comfortable and unlikely to hurt her back like she would on the couch.

When Oscar got in, the lights and the television were still on. It was kind of worrying, actually, seeing all the lights on and no sign of his girlfriend. "Y/N?" He called, looking around into their kitchen. "Y/N?"

Oscar went around, checking every single room. And then he got to their bedroom.

Slowly, Oscar pushed open the door. It didn't stop the door from squeaking as he opened it. He put his head around the door and looked in.

There she was, sleeping peacefully in their bed. In way of pyjamas she had on an orange McLaren hoodie.

Oscar tried his best to be quiet. He tried to move around the room silently, tried to be light-footed, but he wasn't doing a very good job. Every time the floorboards creaked under his feet, he turned back to his girlfriend, to make sure she was still asleep.

As Oscar got dressed, Y/N stirred. She rolled towards him, her eyes fluttering open. "Pastry?" She called, her voice croaking.

Suddenly she was sat up, rolling out of bed and stumbling towards him. "Oh my god, Pastry. You're back," she said and wrapped her arms around him.

Oscar had to hold her steady as they hugged. "I missed you too, baby," he whispered and kissed the top of her head. He walked her back over to the bed and sat her down.

"Love you, Oscar Pastry," she whispered and promptly went back to sleep, wrapped in his embrace.

"This is paradise," said Y/N as she stretched out on her sun lounger. The sun was shining, palm trees providing the only shade for miles.

The pool in front of her was crystal clear. In said pool was her boyfriend, swimming from one side to the other with an inflatable dolphin. Y/N watched him through her sunglasses, a McLaren hat on her head.

Summer break was something Y/N took very seriously. Her studies were finally done and Oscar was finally on summer break from the season.

Of course, Oscar had to take his girl on holiday. They flew to the Caribbean, to a private villa they'd rented for the next week and a half. From there it was sun, sand, blue skies and crystal clear water.

Getting out of the pool, Oscar threw himself down onto the sunbed beside Y/N. "Happy?" He asked, reaching out and placing his hand on her knee.

His fingers were cold, but it was welcome under the Caribbean sun. Y/N placed her hand on top of his and nodded her head. "This is amazing, Oscar Pastry," she said, turning towards him.

Oscar had this way of smiling. It made Y/N's heart beat fast and the blood rush to her cheeks. "I love you," she said, reaching up to push her fingers through his hair. "My Oscar Pastry."

"Your Oscar Pastry."

The trip was commemorated with a post on Y/N's Instagram.
