Presently, there are some 110 species reckoned as “mangroves’ and many of them can be found in our Marine Kingdom. Apart from the swimming type you will also see some crawlers when you take a close look at the muddy bottom including the crabs that are hiding.

Coastal

Coasts are the point of transition where one ecosystem joins with the other like the streams or rivers and the land shaking hands with the sea. Compared to the open ocean, these water bodies are not deep. For a variety of plant and animal families, the coastal habitat provides a home that is shallow and brackish. The coastal zone in the VGP Marine Kingdom is designed to mirror this natural habitat and is made of rocks, reefs, and everything coastal. 

Deep Ocean

Deep Ocean represents the eeriest zone lying at a depth of 1000 M plus with little to no light. Yet, it has a thriving ecosystem the extreme cold and pressure notwithstanding. At the VGP Marine Kingdom, the deep ocean zone mirrors the mysterious parts of the Ocean. Throughout the week (local weather permitting), between 10 am and 4 pm visitors can enjoy scuba diving as part of the visit to the Chennai's Underwater Aquarium. You need not have any prior experience in scuba diving since experienced instructors will assist you throughout the duration underwater and also provide theoretical and practical training. Your underwater experience will last for about 20 minutes and throughout this duration, your instructor will be with you to ensure total safety. Your relatives or friends accompanying you will wait inside or outside the aquarium unless they are also scuba diving. Each slot for scuba diving takes up to 2 persons and if you are a certified scuba diver you are allowed to explore the tank in the company of an instructor so that best practices only are followed.

Age and fitness 

Visitors aged 12 years and above are allowed to enjoy scuba diving at the Chennai's Underwater Aquarium but you should be accompanied by an elder friend or relative who is above 18 years of age. Apart from this, every visitor choosing scuba diving should be free of respiratory disorders and physically fit to stay underwater for the duration you are scuba diving.
