Here are my Top 9, Instagram photos for 2019. I always am super curious each year what will stand out. I use this particular account to promote my business so I see it as a reflection of that business year. I love that my work for 'Uintah Fireplace And Design' is the dominant theme. That was an amazing project to be a part of & I had so many opportunities to use my different skills. My Hummingbird Chinoiserie style fabric is also highlighted, which feels fitting because I made sure to squeeze at least a little time here & there for fabric design in 2019. Having my son highlighted here makes sense because he was a big personal focus for me during the year while he was deployed on the USS Boxer. It was the most bittersweet of bittersweet Military MoM experiences & I'm so grateful he's back...as I write this he is literally back & home on leave for just a few more days, so I've been soaking up as much Shaun as I can. Spending some time with the beautiful Kelli Ellis was actually a huge deal for me. I'm so glad this is part of my top 9. I had officially met her a few years ago at Vegas Market but she decided to come hang out (live) in Salt Lake City for a short bit. We had dinner together twice & I got to bask in the light of the amazing wonder women powerhouse that she is. I was already inspired by her as a designer, but I got to be more inspired by her on a much more personal level. It was actually during a very difficult time for me & it really lifted my spirits. Well there you go. This has been quite a year & honestly I'm glad this post is from the highlight reel of my year. I'm really ready to leave 2019 behind. Someone must have a lot of faith in my abilities because I was asked to come back to the Uintah Fireplace And Design showroom, to spruce up the flower pots out front in preparation for the winter holiday season. It's not the first time I've done a larger scale flower arrangement, but it was a newer concept for me, plus I needed to replicate it four times. I decided to post some of the progression. I tried to assembly line it so that I could move faster & keep consistent. There was a moment when I was scared I didn't have enough greenery to complete them. I must have good instincts though because I had exactly what I needed. I also created them outside in the cold. I remember last time I worked outside at the showroom it was Summer & I got quite sunburned. This time I tried to be more prepared for the weather. It was 26 degrees but as it got later in the day & as I was finishing up it was 24. The last hour I started getting used to it a bit though & I could feel the difference in temperature when the sun started setting in the West & was shining on me. I made a short visit to the Uintah Fireplace And Design showroom this morning. I still get as excited walking into it. I remember every thought I had for each design concept before it was even made real. So thrilled with the way the design turned out. If I had a wide angle camera I could show you more. I guess you'll have to just come see for yourself. You know Fireplace season is finally here in Utah. As it gets colder we spend more & more time inside & out environment impacts us more. It hit me a few days ago that it’s been a year since I started working with Uintah Fireplace And Design, designing their showroom. It was such an amazing experience. My recommendation from day one was to show many different tastes & design styles. I truly believe showrooms work best when they appeal to many personalities. This though creates a challenge for integrating very different styles into one area so that the various elements still harmonize with one another. Then there was also the need to work within the limitations of the space. On one of the walls we needed to show fireplace inserts on had a window that brought in a little natural light & I didn’t like the idea of closing it up. I proposed the idea of some type of textured glass & when the owner agreed to consider it, I brought in glass Artist Dan Cummings aka Dan Cummings Glassman. He came up with this glass flame design that is quite awesome & it also relates to the brand. While it would be rare for a client to do something like this in a home, it’s perfect for a commercial space…which the showroom certainly is. I didn’t want to detract from it one bit, so at the last minute I veered towards a white smooth concrete rather than pitted gray to keep it clean in relationship to the glass.

This is the Burntec fireplace I designed for the Uintah Fireplace And Design showroom. It's one of my personal favorites. The Burntec is an open flame insert that can be woodburning or gas. It is most often used as an outdoor fireplace. I wanted to get away from the traditional outdoor fireplace model when I designed it & do something a little more modern leaning into a transitional style. What few people know about me is that I was an artist before I got my Interior Design degree & at times I've been known to do faux finishes & murals. The inside brick came in only one color & it didn't match or even complement the stone surround....so I got up close & personal & using fireproof glaze gave it a new life. The fireplace in any room is the dominant focal point of that room. That's why the execution of the design of your fireplace is so important. Designing anything (especially the dominant focal point in a room) requires understanding specific design principles. First off, the first rule of design always is, form follows function. So that means codes, egress, clearances, measurements & scale are the number one key to beginning creating the design. Understanding how to use this information...assists in recognizing the possibilities, as well as limitations that need to being addressed in any design situation. Once all of this is addressed the direction is made clear for moving forward with the design. The Uintah Fireplace And Design showroom was no exception to the rules of design. In fact creating a balance between multiple focal points all in one space required very specific considerations that you'd never have to worry about in a home. The biggest challenge...to create a flow in the showroom space, while showing the diversity of Uintah Fireplaces ability to execute every style any customer who walks in the door would desire. This morning I had a great meeting at the Uintah Fireplace And Design showroom. I have to be honest I have to pinch myself everytime I go in there...I still can't believe I was given the opportunity to design it. There are 17 area's total. We have only one surround left to finish & it will be complete. It was my goal to represent many tastes & styles...yet create a relationship between each area, so that it would all flow together. I put a lot of thought into every texture, color, placement & application. The team at Uintah Fireplace And Design has been amazing to work with. I'm excited about how much has been achieved in such a short time. With the new ownership they have expanded beyond just selling fireplaces & are doing full home remodeling.They have a very experienced contractor on staff & the kitchen's they do are one of the things I'm most excited about. I've been impressed by the quality cabinetry they offer & their up to date options. If you get a chance to go by & visit please do. I love that feeling of accomplishment, when something you've been working so hard on finally comes to fruition. This feeling hit me really hard today. I had kind of a delayed response of relief after completing my part of this installation last night for the Home Show, at the Mountain America Expo Center. As many of my friends & followers know I've been involved in helping an amazing local company give their showroom a facelift. It has been an exciting opportunity & I've felt very blessed to be part of it all. I am also impressed with everything they offer their customers, as well as their group of experts. Working with their team has been a very positive experience. It shows me how professional they are & I get an inside view to all of it. It also really takes a team to pull off something of this magnitude in a short amount of time. My contribution to the display for Uintah Fireplace And Design was the paint color, tile chioce, the selecting & staging of the built-in fireplace unit. I was grateful for the assistance of my daughter & her darling friend. I also had a little help from my sister Julie, who helped me track down the books because I was tight on time. The other parts of the venue were tackled by the team at Uintah & they did an amazing job. This morning I received a text letting me know that Fox 13's Big Buddha & HGTV 's Tiffany Brooks decided to use our space for their segment...followed later by Channeling 2 also speaking with Tiffany. I would have loved to have been there. If you get a chance this weekend please head over there & see what we put together. If you need a fireplace, new kitchen or a remodel done Uintah has the capability to do it all & a team of experts to make it happen. Please keep them in mind. I promised the other day to start showing pictures of the Fireplace showroom I've been working on. As of this morning here is our first completely finished fireplace surround. I collaborated with the fabricator & we designed this custom marble surround exclusively for Uintah Fireplace And Design. It's gorgeous in person. The best thing about Uintah Fireplace And Design, is that they don't just sell fireplace inserts...they can also add in a new to a home without a fireplace, or help you update or remodel your old fireplace. I've done a lot of new, as well as fireplace remodels over the years & I know it can often be hard to bridge the gap between the specifications/requirements of each insert & the desired design if you don't have the right guidance. More than once I've seen customers have to sacrifice in the style they wanted because the insert selected previously wasn't the right option for what their vision actually was. It's important to get it figured out up front & even better if you can have it all handled together. Your vision, with the right product. That is why I'm extremely excited about working with a company that does both. The showroom has been designed to showcase a range of styles & tastes including traditional, transitional, rustic & modern. If you're in the area you should come by.
