Have you ever had something you were trying to accomplish & it felt like the devil himself was trying to stop you? I hope you haven't experienced this. Unfortunately that is what it felt like for me getting my client's art commission completed. Thank goodness they were understanding & patient while my life fell apart there for a minute. Thus far I've been pretty resilient & I do my best to overcome the obstacles put in front of me. Sometimes creating art feels like a mini version of creating & problem solving we have to do on a bigger scale in our lives. Sometimes everything flows & you get the colors & textures just right...then other times you misjudge things & you have to fix your mistakes so that you can still have a beautiful result in the end. #JemAndTheHolograms debuted 34 years ago on this day in 1985 💖 Altho it was considered a “girl’s cartoon”, I obsessively watched every single episode as soon as it was available. Even though I love to design fabrics with Spoonflower I rarely enter the contests they promote because it's a huge time commitment.This recent contest kind of inspired me though. The challenge was to design a fabric for the Nugget modular couch. As an interior designer, I'm a little more conservative in the way I design fabrics when it comes to both color & patterns. It's because I'm always thinking about versatility & considering what a majority of my client's have gravitated towards as well as the most pressing trends. It was a challenge for me as well...which is really why I've entered the competitions in the past. I am constantly figuring out how to make what I see in my head work. I used the Roostery product shops computer generated images to show how my fabric design appears in products like table cloths, pillows & bedding. This helps me visualize the full effect more accurately. If I were to win I wouldn't be able to use it for these products shown, because my understanding is it would exclusively be used by their brand. This lady is an inspiration to me. I think if I had a parallel career I would like it to take shape in similar fashion to Tanya’s. I have not met her in person but she is one the practitioners that captured my imagination when I began researching the local creative industries here. I think she is not afraid to show who she is through her design work, even in trying to please her clients.
