In summary...

So that was all boring and dumb as hell. 

We start with Kang coming in as the villain, with no build up in him as a character so I had no investment in him. And then he’s just monologuing for 90% of the episode which is just boring as hell. They tried to spice it up with his lil minature dispaly but really? All that marvel budget and THATS the best y’all could come up with? 

His explaination was.... boring. And the drama of “The TVA is a lie!” fell flat for me because.... it wasnt a lie? The work the TVA was still effectively true, the bureaucratic murder work still got done regardless, still serving the same purpose. It was just the origins that were a lie. How was Morbius upset when he realized they were sending innocent “variants” to die at the end of time, but somehow didn’t care when he thought they were just personally killing innocents all the time? What big moral difference does that make? Unless perhaps I missed something, because Kang’s big “revealing” monologue just fell so flat for me, it’s possible I just missed out on whatever big important points they were trying to make.

Plus there’s the biggest issue of a long monolgue- a whole lot of telling, not showing. We keep getting TOLD Loki and Slyvie have something special! Told that Loki wants a throne! Then told no actually he doesn’t anymore! (but this is still just new york loki like, 2 weeks later lmao) You’re gonna need some deeper development to convince me Loki’s actually reached that place of understanding marvel. Actually, you’re gonna need some deeper development to convince me of any of this.

Which I guess is my issue in the end, everything felt rushed to me with us getting TOLD about the develops happening internally with these characters. But no one really doing the work. The best we got was the beginnings of a cool friendship with Loki and Morbius, and then we kinda ditched that after 2 episodes. (Hard to be invested in a break up when ya never see a pair together that long.Hard to be invested in any of this lmao.)

Maybe with a season two we’ll get the wacky time cop drama I was hoping to get but who knows! Maybe we’ll just end up with Sylvie sacrificing herself to save Loki because no one at marvel knows how to write dynamic het relationships I guess!
