I think spaz drew this cover? And wow, people weren’t kidding when they said he can imitate any sonic artstyle, that looks damn similar to Uekawa’s art

The thing that gets me of Classic Sonic purists, they seem to
-Gradually hate Sonic 2 and 3 more and more by the day
-(Indirectly) Resent how Oshima changed his artstyle. They circle heavily to Sonic 1 concept art only, using later """classic""" games to dunk on post Adventure games strictly to theor benefit, but then ignore CD and 3K changing him, and late 90s Oshima art after he stopped being the main art director
-Not care too much of chars outside Sonic. Sonic has the muzzle curve BS argument, but only a select few give a shit for Tails. Even less for Amy and Knux
-Stopped defending Knuckles Chaotix. Despite doing so a lot early 2000s
It's a mirror to how fans of Uekawa art hate his artstyle change after 2012, but extreme. They've gotten stricter to just liking CD and Sonic 1 over the years vs genuinely most of 90s, and fangames ironically suffered in lack of inspiration as a result. Sadly I see this mentality affecting later fans too, of being too trapped to liking only 1/2 games
The Sonic fandom like many nostalgia fandoms is reaching a point of self destruction heavily favoring limited bias with no substance. And how severely limiting it is

That's strange. I personally prefer CD over 3 and 2 as well, though 1, as good as it is, is honestly kinda mid compared to the others just by sheer virtue of being the first entry in the series. Not a whole lot going on there gameplay-wise compared to later Genesis titles. That is to say, I can understand liking CD more than the others, but 1? Why 1?

I remember that argument. Still hilariously trivial. xP
So is it safe to say hardcore Classic purists will hate Superstars, then? Because if so, then this fandom truly is unpleasable. Saying this as someone who is ridiculously hard to please. lol

As a whole, I don't think having a favorite game to fall back on is necessarily a bad thing in and of itself - it would be hypocritical of me to gatekeep and say you're not a real Sonic fan if you don't love every aspect of every era, especially when my own preferences sit snug in the early Adventure era which definitely has its own problems - but when it starts stunting your art is when you probably need to reacquaint yourself with other aspects of the series. Especially since it seems to be hollowing out the creativity of fan projects.

"sonic x is like yuji uekawa's artstyle animated" it IS NOT. sonic x is like they took a sideways glance at uekawa's art and went Yeah we can do sort of like the basic gist of that. and they sort of kind of did in a way for the first few episodes and then gave up
