i have so much… stuff that i dont need but am loathe to part with (even though someone else would probably get more use out of them). part of the issue, im realizing, is that so many of my memories are “locked in” with these things and releasing them would essentially mean consigning that memory to be forgotten. they arent particularly valuable memories so its not even sentimental value, just that without a tangible physical reminder i will lose that flash of being 12 and walking home, and with my terrible biological memory i dont have a lot of those. but this is possibly one of the most inefficient ways to store them. but i dont have the energy to re-encode them as journal entries or something so… back they go into the basement storage

#the other half of the issue is post-middle school despite most of my stuff being relatively cheap #they tend to last forever… #I have a gap sweater that’s been going strong since 10th grade -_- #two $60 jeans from Uniqlo which were the only pants I wore fall-winter-spring for about four years that have finally given up the ghost #and my laptop? a decade and counting babyyyy #another third of my memories are just locked up with my sketchbooks lol which is a way better preservation format #I’m not really sure why or how my shit lasts this long bc/ I don’t take particular care & my friends report a much lower lifespan #it’s fast fashion to you it lasts 5 years for me etc. and I wear the same things on rotation like a depression capsule wardrobe so… #bytebun rambles
