Okay, time for TWDG ANF. The reason this one took me way longer is my disinterest was...great.
I was kinda with it at first. I liked the dark outdoors that required a flashlight and the introduction of the herd that would be a common thread throughout the story.
But then Mariana got her own trench and I think that's when the problems started to really show. Couple that with Francine's death, and I just started to notice a pattern of killing off characters we barely got any time with. And also that I had no attachment to the surviving characters either. It was like...we need to pad this character out? Just kill a girl or woman in their life!
Not to say that Season 2 didn't have its fair share of characters dying too early (see: Sarah especially). Nor was there an absence of women being used to pad out a man's backstory (see: Sarita). But I was still invested in the drama of the surviving characters. I still really wanted to see what happened next. I would think about watching something but realize TWDG was what I wanted to engage with most despite its flaws.
TNF was a slog, though. The characters felt bland and I was waiting for their personalities to drop. But then they just...didn't? And the story kept going?
The love triangle really wasn't doing it for me. I understood Kate wanting to leave an abusive relationship. She looked way better and healthier away from David, but I don't really feel like they explored that enough. Like maybe a more Kate-centric focus would've been cool. The apocalypse served as an opportunity to escape and she's faced with not only the threat of an apocalypse but having to face her abuser again? That's scary. That's terrifying. If you're going to include this element, I say you commit and do it respectfully.
But we don't really get enough of Kate. It's just mostly portrayed as over once she gets with Javi (if she does get with Javi), but my playthrough, David was at least dead. So I guess that's an escape in itself. Sorta. Kinda.
I wasn't really feeling David. I'm fine with villains, but this guy was just a jerk. Not even a jerk where I want to see what happens with him. I just wanted him to die.
Javi is fine, but he just feels like he's "nice" and I'm not really feeling a need to see what happens to this guy or buy any stickers of him.
The whole Richmond thing is really not well-explored. Yes, these people were benefitting from pillaging other communities. But now we have to save this town. Don't worry about all the destroyed communities. We gotta worry about this one. I mean, that's a pretty interesting problem to explore. Like something you might want to reckon with, struggling with the fact that you absolutely need security and food in an apocalypse but it's apparently been coming at the cost of others. Entire towns of people.
To be fair, it's not totally the citizens' fault. I suppose they were lied to. I guess. But I'm pretty sure Richmond didn't have the best known policies either, and they were probably okay with that. So, I don't know...
I have no idea what happened with Joan. Like you're given the option to shoot her but I didn't and she killed Tripp. I didn't care enough to replay to see what happens or even read about what happens, but she really has no presence as a villain. I don't really care enough to hate her. Of course, I don't like what she's doing, but like, whatever.
Speaking of Tripp versus Ava, I only wanted to keep Tripp alive because he didn't really feel involved. He just kinda tagged along. And then Ava was just mean (before she comically falls to her death). You steal someone's baby and you show up just to tell them to get over it. The same person who helped you avoid a hoarde of walkers. Wow, you are...likeable. I didn't care about Tripp either. There are two things I remember about him:
His face looks really stupid on the gameover screen when you're gunning Mitch's group down on the barricades of Prescott.
He is really annoying about his crush on Eleanor during inappropriate times.
Apparently Conrad could live or something. I just shot him because he threatened two kids. Sure, Gabe held him at gunpoint first, but it still felt a little cruel. I don't really expect him to add anything to the story, so I'm not replaying for that either.
I hear that Gabriel is a pretty hated character, but I definitely don't hate him. He was a little stupid, but he was really young and going through some stuff, so I can let that slide. That being said, he wasn't someone I really cared about either. Which is odd, because TWDG was pretty good with its child characters. I chose to go after him second and his death scene happened. And the ending really felt like they just put a sticky note of him up and got over it.
I felt like the doctor and Javi's father were the two most relatable characters. The doctor was over it and the father was over it but only spoke in jokes. The father's jokes were better than most of the humor in this season, as the seasonal humor felt very "Well, that just happened!" Marvel-esqeue and I didn't really feel like it had its own identity. I felt like it'd be harder to separate the humor from the earlier seasons from the situation the characters are in, but this round just felt empty.
Also, those graphics were...something. It seems like they upped the realism for the main characters, but those walkers... Uh... Yeah, those are... They're walking, I guess.
Speaking of the walkers, I feel like they were wasting all those guts. They mowed through walkers and could've used that to dress themselves, but they just didn't. They really need to get into mass-smashing walkers so they can cover up, but I guess that'd not be very fun. The news about the infection tends to spread on a person-to-person basis, but there was someone in the group who knew what to do, so they should've gutted-up.
And then there's Paul/Jesus. I feel like the best contribution this guy made to the story was having one of the ending cards read, "Did you believe in Jesus?" or something to that effect. Otherwise, he was annoying. He's also a part of the action problem, where it feels like these characters fight too well and the clunky aspect I love in many survival horror games is gone. What qualified for cool action to me was like...Clementine sliding underneath the tree or Lee kicking Andy into the fence after they tussled. He was literally running up walls and whatnot. I'm just not with it at all. I discussed my feelings on Molly and I need to submit a formal apology because I didn't realize just how bad it could get. I'm sorry girl.
I will say I'm a little worried about season four but I'm sure ANF won't have much to do with it, so I need to put my fear aside and just get into it. It's just, the direction it went in is not what I wanted from this series and is not something I want to engage with again. Thanks for reading all this!
And also Clementine was there.

So I haven’t actually watched season 3 of telltales the walking dead so I thought I’d post after every episode what I thought about the characters and the game overall.
Javier: “I fucking love P U D D I N G.”
Gabe: Moody rn, but not as bad as annoying as my friends made him out to be, plus his smile after Javier praising him for finding the ambulance car was kinda precious.
Mariana:Dang, she was actually chill enough.
David: “¿Donde está el padre?”
Kate:Okay for real though, even though they aren’t you’re actual kids and your a stepmom, stop smoking a blunt and treat them as if they were your own.
Clementine: My daughter please, what happened *but also at the same time* You’re doing amazing sweetie.
Tripp: Chill enough, I’d like to see more of you.
Conrad: Way to call out on Javier’s gambling, now I just like Javi even more. For real though, I don’t have a strong opinion on you yet.
Francine: You seem down to earth in a way, but I still don’t know much on you either.
Overall on the episode, it was okay, I only knew about the spoiler with Mariana, but other than that, no other spoilers. Unfortunately I’m not playing this, otherwise I’d personally would be dissing Kate with her flirting, it feels so forced and unwanted. Other that, this episode didn’t leave me with much other feeling (besides the fact that Clem knocked down a tree, which was pretty cool man.) Hopefully something really peaks my interest in the next episodes.

Top 5 Most Hated Characters
Tumblr media
As y’all can see, this week’s T5F is a request sent in by anon. I picked it because I guess at the time I thought it would be fun to explore some of TWDG’s least popular, and most hated, characters while also taking into account characters that I can’t stand.
These are characters that the vast majority of us don’t like or downright despise for many different reasons. None of us are going out of our ways to defend most of these bastards, and anyone who is I get the impression they’re doing so for the sake of being Different™... though while looking around for info about these characters and what people were saying about them, I did find myself in some odd places.... come across, eh... odd fanart.
But I guess this is the part where I say this is all in good fun and if you happen to be a legit stan of any of these people, that’s cool. Maybe you can answer some of my questions as to why??
5. Nate
Tumblr media
Okay, when I said that I found myself in odd places, it turns out that Nate actually has a bit of a fanbase. It’s not big or anything, from what I can tell, but big enough for me to question why because I was under the impression that we all agreed that this dude sucks.
Seriously, I would’ve put him higher on this list if I hadn’t discovered this handful of people making fanart for him and claiming him as a comfort character. While I find that an odd choice, you do whatever makes you feel comforted, y’know? Just would like to understand why.
As for the rest of us, he’s terrible. Every time I go back to 400 days, he’s someone I never look forward to seeing. I’ve even tried not getting in the truck with him while playing Russell’s story, but in true Telltale fashion, you’re forced to drive along with this creep.
Red flags start going off when Russell’s sharing his story about his previous group, something you can tell left some trauma with him, and Nate is just weirdly fixated on the girl Russell liked. Like yeah okay dude, I get it, it’s the apocalypse and you haven’t had any action for a while but oh my god.
Then the whole walker thing that almost gets Russell chomped is annoying. Oh, and how could I forget about how it’s implied that he attacked the old couple before and was there to finish them off, which he does no matter what and it’s not great.
Hell, he even uses the line Russell gave him but it’s worse because crazy eyes. And if you don’t say anything, Nate murders them right there without a thought and then continues to be a real creep. Fuck this guy.
As the wise Eddie once said, “I don’t what that guy in my life, man!”
4. The Stranger
Tumblr media
Hey, have I ever mentioned how much this dude sucks?
I don’t even have to tell you why he’s on this list. We all know the obvious reasons-- manipulated and kidnapped Clementine, which caused Lee to get bit by a walker and fucking die. No one here is white-knighting for this dipshit.
Sure, it sucks what the Stranger went through. He lost his family and that would be enough to drive anyone up the wall. I mean, just look at Kenny. But this dude, okay. Look. Listen. I can only feel so bad for you when you lost your son on a hunting trip that your wife told you not to go on, then when you went looking for him, you literally left the car unlocked and running for anyone to come across. Then you come back and gasp. So your wife leaves you for being a moron... then when you find her dead, you cut off her head and keep it like a damn bowling ball because...??
At least that’s what I get from it. The writers probably should’ve done a better job with explaining what the hell happened but y’know.
That’s not the only reason no one likes this guy. Oh no, you also add to the pile that the Stranger himself is dull. As a character, the dude is just.... boring. And I get that’s probably what they were going for with the whole “I’m just a guy, but you ruined my life and made me this way.”
However, when you set him up the way you did with the talks over the walkie and the stalking, I was expecting a bit more personality outta this loaf of soggy bread. But no... boring yet crazy. Interesting combo and I’m afraid it doesn’t work.
3. Larry
Tumblr media
Larry?? On a list of most hated characters?? Nooo...
Yeah, surprise. Larry also sucks. Stop the presses.
Larry is a pain in the ass to deal with for two episodes, constantly belittling the people around him and treating his daughter like shit. Oh, and don’t forget how he behaves towards Lee even if you try to be as nice as possible. Nope, he doesn’t care, he still thinks Lee is garbage and will continue threatening to reveal Lee’s secret to the group. Who cares if that could fuck up the dynamic and endanger the group? Larry sure doesn’t.
Until the very end, this dude is just a splinter in the foot. By the time you get to the meat locker and he has a heart attack, you’re not gonna save him because you think he’ll be better if he survives. No, you’re attempting to save him for Lilly and Clementine’s sake, and if you don’t even care about that, you siding with Mr. Family Man to smash his head in.
Not only is he a soiled diaper, he also don’t have much personality outside of asshole. He has maybe two moments where he’s shown to be just a bit chill? I mean, Lilly tells us that he has a lot of pain and that’s why he’s like this.... but that doesn’t excuse his behavior.
Oh, and can’t forget that apparently he was obsessed with Lilly leaving the lights on so he let the power get cut, so Lilly couldn’t eat ice cream and had to let her hair air dry like a heathen. Unforgivable.
So yeah, fuck Larry.
2. Troy
Tumblr media
Ugh, Troy. Fuck this guy.
No really, out of all TWDG characters, this dude and my #1 pick are my most hated. Can’t stand Troy and the only reason I didn’t do a tie for #1 is because for a split second, Troy does show a tiny bit of humanity when Carver is beating down Carver, but blink and you’ll miss it.
Which had me a little concerned to find a handful of posts about having crushes on Troy and drawing fanart but.... again, I guess you do you? And if you can, please explain why because I honestly don’t understand.
Just looking at the screenshot of him annoys him. He’s got one of those punchable faces, y’know?
Anyway, when playing as Clementine, I’m always worried that he’s gonna pop up outta no where and grab her by the neck like he does later in ep3, even though I’ve played s2 a bunch to know that he’s not going to.
But hell, he doesn’t need any excuse to smack anyone around, and there are a handful of times he can really hurt Clem depending on her choices.
Not great, dude.
Can’t say I’m too sorry that Jane shot your dick off.
1. Badger
Tumblr media
Yeah, you guys remember Badger. Y’know.... the man who murdered Mariana then laughed about it, claiming that he enjoyed watching her head explode and would do it again and again if he could?
That’s what puts him at #1. He may not have the most screen time like Larry or Troy, but when he is around, he’s fucking awful.
He gets joy from killing Mariana, like it’s some sort of sick thrill for him to go around murdering children and other innocent people.
Remember Francine? Caught her and used her as bait to try and get Javi to come down, and even went as far as to have some fingers cut off. Like, he gets off on destroying people, entire communities.
Shit, he seems to even get off to his own beat down.
He’s fucking gross and outta everyone on this list, I haven’t found a single person being like “Yeah, he’s garbage but I like him kinda?” like no, you’re such garbage that even the Different™ crowd don’t want you.
Fuck Badger.
By the way, if you’ve never had Conrad kill him in your game, I suggest looking it up. It’s pretty good. Gives Conrad a little bit of closure after what happened to Francine, as well as give Javi some closure for Mari’s murder.
Not a single soul wept for you, Badger.
---
Dishonorable Mentions
-Joan. She’s boring, forgettable, and no one is out here gushing over her because most of the time, we can’t even remember her name. -Danny from Vince’s story in 400 Days. Y’know, the dude going to prison because he was convicted of SA. I’ll never understand why people go with him over Justin. Justin sucks, too, but not the same level Danny does.  -Lilly in S4. Ugh. That’s a whole other topic for another day. -Arvo, though I guess he has a bit of a following, too
---
Well there ya go. Do you agree or disagree with any of my choices for this list? Or have anything to add? I’m always down to chat.
Have any suggestions for future T5F’s? Feel free to send ‘em in! :D

Hey TWDG fandom
I took one for the team and sent fanfiction.net (god help me) a bunch of A New Frontier character requests for TWDG category, including:
Javier G. Gabe G. Kate G. David G. Mariana G. Tripp Eleanor Conrad Francine Ava Joan Clint Jesus/Paul M. P. Lingard
In order for these characters to show up on the TWDG character list, though, they have to be used and tagged by an author in a fic...so please feel free to upload your season 3 fic to ff.net :p

My TWDG S3 Choices in Whole:
Your experience with David was: DYSFUNCTIONAL. - You accepted David's hand after he punched you on the night your father died. - You tried to leave Richmond without David. - In his time of need, you distanced yourself from David. - Gabe had to brain his own father after David turned.
Your experience with Kate was: LOVING. - You kissed Kate in the junkyard. - You supported Kate's plan to escape Richmond. - You told Kate you wanted a future with her. - You told Kate you wanted to start a family with her.
Your experience with Gabe was: SAFETY FIRST. - You upset Gabe by not staying in the trailer for the night. - You told Gabe the truth about his neighborhood friend. - You helped Kate save Richmond before going after Gabe.
Your New Frontier Story: - You reassured Tripp by promising you wouldn't cause trouble in Prescott. - Then you went to the junkyard with Tripp. - Finally, you picked Tripp to live but Joan shot him to teach you a lesson.
- You left Eleanor at Prescott when you went to the junkyard. - Then Eleanor leaked your plan to incite resistance against Joan. - Ultimately, you did not forgive Eleanor for her betrayal.
- Clementine declined Ava's offer to meet with the New Frontier. - Then you convinced Ava to help you after she caught you and Gabe stealing guns. - In the end, despite your not picking her to live, Ava died saving you on the overpass.
- Clementine ignored Lingard's medical advice regarding AJ. - Then you refused to give Lingard a lethal injection. - After the chaos, Lingard told you where AJ is located.
- You coached Francine through Conrad's poker game. - Then, when Gabe threatened Conrad, you convinced your nephew to lower his gun. - Later, you shot Conrad in the tunnel after he threatened Gabe's life.
- When you met him, you trusted Jesus and didn't bind his hands. - Then you promised Jesus to always do the right thing in helping Richmond survive. - Lastly, you promised Jesus you would help lead Richmond.
- You kept your mouth shut when Joan baited you about Mariana's death. - Then you brought Max to expose Joan to the Richmond counsel. - Currently, Joan's whereabouts are unknown.
- Clint kicked you out of Richmond for stealing gas. - Then you took Clint's deal and spared Joan's life. - Finally, David shot Clint on stage after you agreed to Clint's deal.
- You and 92.7% of players stepped up to help David. - You and 53.6% of players confessed your love for Kate. - You and 62.6% of players showed your love for David even as he took his anger out on you. - You and 59.4% of players went with Kate and sealed the Richmond breach. - After the fight with David, Clementine followed her own plan, splitting up with you and 52.5% of players.
Your Clementine became a FREE SPIRIT
- Clementine enjoyed brief, happy days with Kenny and AJ, until a terrible accident changed all their lives. Clementine was unable to drag a broken Kenny to safety, leaving her and AJ on their own.
- After circumstances forced her to join the New Frontier, Clem didn't hesitate to use their resources for her own ends, leading to exile and a tearful farewell.
- When Javi and David fought at the water tower, Clem remembered a similar fight long ago. She took control of the situation by putting a gun to David's head, stopping the violence before it escalated.
- Once David left in the truck with Gabe, Clementine knew that the best course of action was to go it alone; leave Javi's side and help the person he didn't choose.
