been playing through TWDG after like 10 years and I decided to draw a really self-serving idea of "what if every child throughout the series made it to Ericsons with Clem"
Duck is not a smart man but he's exceptionally loyal. His lack of wit is countered by his raw strength, despite losing a hand all the way back at the motor inn. At Ericson's he'd probably hang around with the likes of Mitch and Willy. Totally has his dad's hat somewhere.
Becca is the local pain in the ass. Constantly breaching the safe zone and acting primarily in her own interests, few people actually like her but can't deny her capability; she's good to have around in a fight. She's come to respect Clementine's resourcefulness but would never admit it.
Sarah stays firmly within the walls of the school, but that doesn't mean she doesn't pull her own weight. Following in her father's footsteps she's the closest the school has to a doctor now. She'll hang close to Clementine but also gets along with Ruby and Aasim.
Gabe Garcia is the local sadboy. He's not as moody as he was in Richmond, but he's still a little mopey and insists on stepping up. Despite her protests he's very protective of his sister, and still harbors a soft spot for Clementine - so naturally doesn't get along with Louis/Violet.
Mariana Garcia is young but capable, and weirdly well adjusted and mature for her age - she's younger than Gabe but feels like the older sister. After the New Frontier shot her eye out she hasn't been as active in a fight but she'll still insist on pulling her weight while knowing her limits. Gets on with everyone.
James Fairbanks is the oldest known surviving member of his family (unless Sam is still out there) and is brutally protective of his younger brother, Alex. Has a mutual respect with Clem and is very good at setting traps outside the school.
Alex Fairbanks would probably like to fight walkers more but James prefers he'd stick to supply runs and stay on watch. He feels stuck at the kids' table and wants to do more to help, but is at a loss on how to do so.

If you could make one major change to the story of TWDG (as in, your change would be canon) what would it be? Could be a character surviving for longer, a plot point being different, pretty much anything you can think of.
Oh, easy-
LUKE GETS TO LIVE. TO THIS DAY, LUKE'S DEATH PISSES ME OFF. That fight NEEDED to be between him and Kenny I will MELT on that hill!
Oh, and Ben lives longer, too! Give my son a chance!
A plot point? Maybe giving the 400 Days group the canon cabin group's roles? I honestly did think they were going to be important past 400 Days smh.
Mariana should've lived longer too, but that's because I found her neat. She's just like me ngl.
Minerva getting a redemption arc. 'Nuff said. Dunno why, but I wanna wrap her in a blanket and send her to therapy.
I CAN'T PICK MORE THAN ONE? Okay, fine- Luke v. Kenny.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, what if Mariana lived??
Absolutely, it's on my list.
I might make it a two part series/two b2b chapters, as one of the recommendations is if Kate dies instead of Mari. So one would be in they all survived outright and the other would be if Kate only dies.

AYDF | progress update 1
EPISODE 2: DRAGON'S DEN
Here's some snippets of the fic's next chapter! (All of these are up to edits/polish as well.) Including a look at the doc because…oof, my computer's gonna hate the size of it if it doesn't already. Lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For these updates, I don't know how many I'll do. It'll depend on how long the chapters are, and how much I'd like to give away. The chapters are also long, by the by, so what's here is literally a few snippets. But ah well. I'll be chipping away at this chapter for the next couple weeks, so if I'm not as active on here as I have been, that be why.
Cuz like. I'm a fic writer. …so.
(If you're interested, the link to the master post is in the title.)

alright lemme know if you don’t wanna do that but season three group reacting to David accidentally killing javi? got the idea from that one game over screen in ep5
OH DAMN
David: David had been angry. No, he’d been livid. And seeing Javi cozier with his family than he had ever been? It fueled his rage even more. He had pulled out the gun as a threat, as a means of reestablishing his power both in Richmond, and in their family dynamic. He only wanted to get him to back down. To listen. To respect David as the tried and true leader. But his finger slipped, and the gun roared, and suddenly, splatter from his brother’s forehead hit his shirt and face. Then, Javi was on the ground. The screams and cries echoed from all around him, as though he wasn’t really present; as though he was watching a movie. It was an out of body experience, making that big of a mistake. “David, how could you?” Kate roared. She ran up, punching him angrily in the chest before Tripp pulled her away. Her attention turned to that of Gabe and Mariana’s; Javi’s limp body on the ground, watching him take his last breaths. Fuck. Fuck. It was the only thing passing through David’s head. He had killed his brother. His only brother. Everything was all his fault.
Kate: Kate screamed the moment the BANG! roared through the air. Her hands slapped over her mouth, her heart stopping entirely as she watched the scene play out in front of her. Just as David slammed his foot on the ground, his finger hit the trigger, firing a bullet straight through Javi’s forehead, forcing him onto the ground. “Javi” It was the only thing she could say, slipping shakily out of her lips. She wobbled forward, about to collapse herself. Her legs felt weak. She felt like her body was suffocating, every inch of it. “Javi?” She finally knelt down beside him, staring into his lifeless eyes, and studying his still chest. “Javi? Javi?” Her voice became more and more distressed the more he didn’t answer. She knew he was gone. She just couldn’t stomach it. “Javi, no!” For the first time since the apocalypse began, she felt really, truly, alone. “No no no no no,” she whispered under her breath, holding each side of his pale face, trying to soak up every last bit of warmth his body had to offer before it was all gone. “I can’t lose you too,” she whispered through sobs.
Eleanor: Eleanor felt his stomach twist when David pulled out the gun. She lifted up her hands, as if trying to generate peace. “Woah, David, we can--” She wasn't able to finish. Before she had a chance, the gun fired, the bullet ripped through Javier’s throat, and he was down on the ground. It had all happened so quickly, it took Eleanor a beat to even understand what had happened. Why Javi was on the ground. Why he was bleeding so severely. Finally, Kate’s scream and Gabe’s wails snapped her out of it. She darted to his side, waving the others away. “Give me some room,” she said softly, leaning in, listening for a heartbeat. She knew it was useless, but she needed to do something. She couldn’t just stand there in horror. She needed to try. At least then, she could say she did. Her eyes began to cloud over with tears as she attempted to stop the bleeding, take a pulse, do anything. Eventually her tears began falling freely, her voice shaking from sobs. “Javi, come on, man. Stay with me.” But she knew he was gone. It was too late.
Tripp: Tripp’s hands tightened into fist when he realised what was going to happen. “David don--” The shot was fired before Tripp even had a chance. He reached his hand out, wanting to lea for the gun, but wasn’t fast enough. The bullet ripped from the gun and landed straight into Javi’s chest. The moment he saw it, Tripp knew it was over. He lowered his hand, it tossed down to his side in defeat as Javi collapsed, a hand on his chest, the life draining out of him on the ground. Tripp closed his eyes and sighed, pressing his fingers into his eyes. David just stood; still and horrified. “I’m--” “Shut it, David.” Tripp snapped, finally opening his eyes. “Get the hell out of here. Right now.” David hadn’t ever seen Tripp this stern, this rattled, this angry. “Get the fuck out of here.” Tripp said again, louder and more aggravated this time. The sound of weeping and sobbing bounced off of every wall. Tripp stood in front of the grieving family, keeping eyes on David as he wandered away until he was fully ot of sight. Mari, Kate, and Gabe didn’t need him nearby. Not right now. Not after what he did.
Gabe: Gabe could feel his stomach drop. For a moment, he felt as though he was weightless - floating in place rather than existing. He felt like he was outside of his body, watching as Javi crumpled to the ground. David had pulled out his gun as a threat, demanding for Javi to back off. When he didn’t, David got frustrated. His finger slipped, and it fired. Directly through Javi’s throat, rendering him speechless, waiting for death. “No!” Gabe screamed, lunging forward and collapsing onto his knees, laying beside Javi’s limp body on the ground. “Javi! Javi, please!” Gabe could barely breathe due to how hard he was crying. For so long, Javi raised him. He taught him more about being a man than David ever did. More than David ever could. David put his gun away, hands up as though protesting. “I didn’t…I didn’t mean--” “Shut up!” Gabe screamed. He had never raised his voice at his father in his entire life before. “I hate you!” He didn’t care if walkers came to their location due to the noise, he could care less. All he could do was lay his forehead on Javi’s still chest, and weep into the bloodied fabric.
Mariana: Mariana screamed. It was all she could think to do, but it was still muffled by the BANG of the gun. “No! Javi, No!” Mariana flew herself forward, reaching Javi just as he hit the ground. He groaned and squirmed, blood pooling around his head and shoulders. “Javi, please. Please stay. We need you,” Mariana could see her tears falling, crashing onto his shirt and face. Every time one landed, she brushed it away. With her hand on one of his cheeks, she could feel how warm his cheeks were. Knowing they would only get colder was devastating. “It’s okay,” Javi wheezed, his eyes beginning to cloud over. “Stay safe.” Those were the last words to escape his lungs before his chest collapsed, all the air leaving his lungs, and his body giving in to the concrete. Mariana wailed. Louder than she had ever cried at anything before. She clung to his shirt, begging for him to stay. “Javi, no! Please!” She felt as though she was going to pass out. She couldn't breathe. Her chest physically ached. This really did feel like the end.

What sort of books are the garcia fam reading?
I had to do some research lol but we move
Javier probably reads like comedies and Spanish novels, as well as sporty stories. Think Hogfather or like Stuff about Jackie Robinson.
David only reads manuals and military stories. Just a bunch of murderous but also kinda emotionally weary characters who are stuck/proudly working for the military or are involved in war.
Kate reads those romances that are complicated. Just like herself, she likes to follow complicated love triangle stories. Like Nobody's Baby But Mine.
Gabe definitely reads like Transformers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles books, very real for that but it comes off as childish.
Mariana reads those morally correct but also really great story books. She likes a lot and is the most diverse of the family, liking romance, humor, fiction and what not. Think Faking It.

Hey! Omg I hate giving requests bc you have a lot, but could we get Louis, Mariana and (parental figure) Luke with a reader who has really sensitive hearing? Like if sounds get too loud, their ears start to bleed? Sorry if this is inappropriate :)
oh MAN this is gonna be a wild one
Louis: Louis had always known Y/N had sensitive hearing. They freaked out when a gun had gone off in the distance, sending them into a panic. They stayed in their room for the rest of the night, their hands clamped over their ears, and tried to act as though nothing happened the following day. No one dared bring it up. But that day, Louis and Y/N were stationed at the watchtower for the night shift. They needed two these days in case either one of them fell asleep. Suddenly, somewhere in the first, it sounded. A high-pitched, wailing sound. It made Y/N cringe and Louis flinch;. “That’s new.” He said softly. “It’s probably another camp trying to warn walkers off.” Y/N clamped their hands over their ears, groaning. At the watchtower, they couldn’t leave. They had nowhere to hide.
“Y/N?” Louis asked, kneeling down. To see them. All Y/N could do was whimper, ether nails digging into the sides of their head. “It hurts,” they hushed. “Hey, it’s okay,” he said quietly, trying to get them to calm down. They removed their hands from the side of their head, their palms stained with crimson. “Y/N, oh my God,” he quickly reached into his pocket, grabbing a cloth and placing it on their hands. He lifted up the edges of their hair, watching as blood trickled out of their ears and down their face. “It happens often,” Y/N groaned. “I just need to wait for the sound to stop.” They said, eyes squeezed shut. Quickly, ripping his cloth into two, he placed one over each of Y/N’s ears, holding them there. Meekly, Y/N placed their hands overtop of his. “It’s okay, I’ll wait with you. Take deep breaths.” He frowned. “It’ll be over soon.”
Mariana: Mariana and Y/N were doing their usual evening ritual: sitting outside one of Richmond’s buildings, staring up at the sky, sipping on whatever sweet drink they could find in the cafeteria area. “What do you think it looked like before? With all the lights in the cities?” Mariana asked. “I forget. I was so little the last time I can’t remember seeing stars.” Y/N shrugged. “I don’t want to be in a world where I can’t see the stars.” Out of nowhere, a screeching sound. Y/N groaned and immediately snapped their hands over their ears, the remainder of their juice box crashing to the dirt, Richmond floor. “Y/N? What happened?” Mariana asked, setting a concerned hand on their shoulder. “Ugh,” was all Y/N could say, gritting their teeth and squeezing their eyes closed. “What is that?” “Y/N?” Mariana said gently. “Where are you hurt?” “My ears!” Y/N begged. They begged the universe to make it stop before they lost too much blood. Finally, the noise faded out and Y/N groaned aggravated, hands slapping down to their lap. “Y/N! You’re bleeding!” Mariana gawked, horrified at the sight of their blood coated hands. “It happens,” Y/N said. “It’s normal. For me, anyways.” Mariana frowned, studying the blood smeared across their palms and dripping down their neck. Mariana held her juice box out. “Here, have the rest of my juice while I tie your hair back.” Y/N meekly accepted the juice box. “Why?” “So I can clean that up.” She said with a sweet smile and shrug, as though it was obvious. “Wait here, I’ll be right back.” Mariana got up and scurried away to get some water and a cloth. Y/N smiled to themselves, glancing at the half-drank box in their hands. Mariana was always so gentle with people and their struggles. It made Y/N trust her even more.
Luke: Luke and Y/N were sitting in the living room of the ski lodge, glancing out the windows, watching as the sun crept up. They were awake, ready to start their respective work shifts of the day, but they had to wait until it was bright enough to see for a distance. Luke sipped away at his coffee while Y/N sat with a warm glass of water between their hands; it warmed them up for the chilly fall morning. From outside, as Kenny was doing a check up on their wind turbine outside. As he was working on tightening screws and oiling latches, the screeching noise bled through the windows and entered the lodge. Y/N flinched, almost spilling their water. “God, that’s annoying.” Luke groaned, setting his cup down. “I can’t wait until we can upgrade to a better system.” Before he could say anything more, a smack bounced off the walls and Luke turned. Y/N was sitting on the couch, curling down into their knees. They had dropped their glass to the floor in lieu of clamping their hands over their ears. He could hear how intense her whimpers were. “It hurts,” they groaned, sitting upright so Luke could hear them. “Ugh, make it stop.” “Y/N?” He wandered closer to them, sitting beside them on the couch. “What’s--” he stopped as he saw red seeping through their fingertips. Concerned, Luke took one of their hands and peeled it away from their face. Blood dripped onto the couch from their ear. “Oh my God,  Y/N, what happened?” He set a hand on their shoulder and the other on their lap, trying to get them to explain. “It's normal,” they managed to get out, still squirming out of pain. “I just need the noise to--” Finally, the screeching stopped and Y/N sighed, placing their bloody hand palm-up on their lap. “Stop,” they finished. Finally, they made eye contact with Luke, his expression one of pure concern. “Can you help me?” They asked meekly. Luke nodded, immediately standing. “Wait here.” He returned with new water and a damp cloth that he could use on their head. “Don’t worry, I got you.” He worked gently and tenderly, not wanting to hurt them more than they’d already been hurting.
